Finally SM’d Chase to ask about a match for the SW offer. Just received a sm back that they will match the 60k RR offer for my SWPriority card and give me the extra 10k RR. I originally applied March 4. :jumping1:

My statement closes today so hoping to finally see that CP on my account later in the week. I’m guessing the extra 10k might not arrive until June (I have no idea), but if so I’m fine with that.

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO PURCHASE MARRIOTT BONVOY POINTS AT 25% OFF.

I previously wrote about this first-ever sale of Marriott points since the new Bonvoy program launched, here:

Points .com is running its first sale of Marriott Bonvoy points since the program merger and rebranding, from now through 5/15/19. Marriott points are 25% off when purchasing 5,000-50,000 points, which works out to $468.75 for 50,000 points or 0.9375 cents per point. Note that the fine print limits a member to purchasing or receiving as a gift from another member a combined maximum of 50,000 points per calendar year. This is a markup from the Points .com deals where you could buy 30,000 Starpoints (effectively 90,000 Marriott points) for $682.50, or 0.7583 cents per point, and Marriott points don't go as far as they used to after the category changes.

I know both of you are looking to accumulate more Marriott points (but I think @*WDW*Groupie*
may have already purchased some for herself, so that limit may come into play). As this is the first sale under the Bonvoy banner, it's hard to gauge historically if this is a good deal and whether we'll see a better 35% off (like they had for Starpoints) in the future. I think for now, consider this deal against your intended redemption and decide if you can get better than 0.9375 cpp out of these points. Note that the CIP earns 3x UR on Points .com, but TPG also calls out this fact in their article so who knows how long that will last.

I've given some thought in the past month to buying more points, because I do like Marriott's properties and tend to redeem them at higher category hotels during busy travel dates when the cash price for rooms is high, and for 5 night stays to take advantage of the free night, all of which usually gets me a redemption value better than the 0.9375 cpp cost of these points. I think I'm going to sit out this sale. It seems like Marriott is lowballing its first sale at only 25% off when compared to the 35% off sales that use to run for Starpoints, back when Marriott and Starpoints were arguably more valuable before all the negative changes wrought by Bonvoy. Since this is just the first sale, I'll join @calypso726 in not taking the bait at 25%, not inflate their sales numbers, and hope Marriott/Points .com come back with a more reasonable 35% off, or even 50% off deal later this year. (Especially since a member is capped at purchasing only 50k points a year.)

However, if anyone is in need of Marriott points to complete an upcoming redemption, especially one where your redemption value tops 1 cpp, this could be a nice way spend some money (preferably on a CIP or towards an MSR) to save some money.

This story didn't get picked up here yesterday, but Joie De Vivre Joins World Of Hyatt (h/t OMAAT) effective today, May 15, 2019.

This is exciting news because Hyatt is expanding their portfolio of hotels and giving you more locations to redeem your points. As we know, Hyatt offers amazing value per point and UR easily transfers to WOH 1:1. In this case, Joie De Vivre is a boutique hotel chain with some interesting properties in the SF Bay Area, NYC, Chicago, and Baltimore:
 • Chicago Athletic Association in Chicago (Category 4)
 • Hotel Lincoln in Chicago (Category 3)
 • The Talbott in Chicago (Category 3)
 • Hotel Revival in Baltimore (Category 2)
 • Hotel Avante in Mountain View (Category 4)
 • Avatar Hotel in Santa Clara (Category 3)
 • Hotel del Sol in San Francisco (Category 4)
 • Wild Palms Hotel in Sunnyvale (Category 3)
 • Waterfront Hotel in Oakland (Category 3)
 • Hotel 50 Bowery in New York City (Category 5)
 • Park South in New York City (Category 5)
 • The Laurel Inn in San Francisco (Category 5)
 • Carmel Valley Ranch in Carmel (Category 6)
 • Hotel Kabuki in San Francisco (Category 5)
Here in SF, the addition of Joie De Vivre adds a WOH Cat 4 redemption (which the recent category changes all but eliminated from the city) at the Hotel del Sol. But I can't recommend the place because of its location right off the very busy stretch of Lombard Street that's a major thoroughfare to and from the Golden Gate Bridge. The Hotel del Sol is situated close to the trendy Cow Hollow and Marina neighborhoods and the Presidio (and Walt Disney Family Museum). The Laurel Inn and Kabuki Hotel are in mixed retail and residential neighborhoods, and kind of out of the way from the usual tourist destinations, although they're easily accessible by Uber/Lyft. I can't say they're better choices to redeem at than the Hyatts on the Embarcadero, Union Square, or Fisherman's Wharf (also Cat 5s).

Can I say though, that I'm super excited to see the Carmel Valley Ranch on this list (even if it's a Cat 6)?

After all of the number of employees talk on here recently... I'm doing the Barclay AA Biz app. I want to request an employee card for the extra 10k... do I still put 1 employee? Or 2?:confused::confused:

I'm not sure if this offer has been mentioned here. SW credit card offer 5x on certain utilities and other purchases from 4/1-6/30 up to $2,000. DH got an email offer from SW a while back for 5x points on. I didn't get an email but I found the offer when I logged into my SW account. My MSRs are mostly met so this was an easy 10,000 SW points.

OUCH!

BLADE Helicopter Plunges Into Hudson River - TPG

BLADE is a startup company that provides helicopter service from NYC to JFK/LGA/EWR for something like $195 a seat. The company recently expanded service in SF and Silicon Valley to SFO for, I believe, about the same price. TPG also heavily promotes BLADE on its blog, has an affiliate link that you can use to sign up, and I'm pretty sure I recall Brian Kelly himself mention helicopter rides to the airport in his first vlog.

Yeah, no thanks.

Heading to CLE. They actually have a good priority pass restaurant. Dinner is on the company but they’ll only have to cover the tip:) meanwhile in clt and phl priority pass is basically worthless???
