Celebrating birthday at Hollywood Studios

The day we have planned to go to HS coincides with one of my group member’s actual birthday. Any recommendations for a good restaurant to eat at and celebrate? Last time we were there, we ate at ABC Commissary and were far from impressed with the food. We have a multigenerational group - if that makes a difference.

Also, given the amount of various celebrations that take place during a Disney trip, do any of the restaurants do anything to recognize a birthday?

Thanks!

Sci Fi is my favorite restaurant at DHS, but with the seating setup it might not be the best for a birthday celebration if you want to interact with your party. Hollywood and Vine would be a fun option to celebrate with the characters.

We are going back to WDW in 2021 for a girls 12th birthday. She requested 3 things. Jedi Traning, stay at The Poly and dinner at 50's Primetime. She loves that chocolate peanut cake.

Sci Fi us our favorite too. But for a birthday, probably H&V. Other than SF, I'm not very impressed with DHS food offerings.

I'm not a huge fan of any restaurant in DHS, but we did just eat at Sci-Fi last week (after not eating there for several years) and everyone was able to find something that they liked and it has theming that any age can appreciate. Great service, too! And they were fantastic with my daughter's food allergies.

I like Sci-fi, but I'm not sure how well that would go for a large group. I know they have normal tables in the back that you could maybe ask for. We've eaten at 50's PTC and didn't really enjoy our food there. We've also eaten at Backlot Express and we all liked our meals there.

I'd take the short boat ride (or walk) over to the Boardwalk and enjoy a TS over there if your not doing a CS. Cape May would be a nice choice. It's not my favorite restaurant since I'm not really a fan of buffets, but it is way better than the TS restaurants found in HS.

I had actually looked at Cape May as a possibility, but couldn’t determine how long it would take to get there and whether it would be easy to get back to Pop from there. The app made it look like it wasn’t possible, but the app gives me problems all the time so I figured that probably wasn’t accurate :rotfl:

Depending on the age and "sportiness" of your family, it can take awhile to walk over to the Boardwalk. We always take the Friendships that shuttle back and forth between HS and Epcot. It's a pleasant little ride, gives you a chance to get off your feet and see a part of WDW that isn't normally on your route. My guess is the boat takes about 15-20mins, maybe, depending on how long it takes to board, how many people are getting off at stops, etc. WE enjoy taking the boat, much more than walking (after having spent all day on our feet in a theme park!). There are several restaurants in the Boardwalk area, and all have better food than most of the TS/QS at DS (although we like Mama Melrose and 50sPT).

Thank you! Once you reach Epcot, do you walk to the Boardwalk area?

OP, maybe you already know this but:

a) Cape May Cafe is at the Beach Club, not the BoardWalk

b) If you get on the boat at Disney's Hollywood Studios, the boat stops at: (1) Swan/Dolphin, (2) Yacht/Beach Club, (3) BoardWalk, (4) Epcot. So if you wanted to take the boat to Cape May Cafe, you could get off at the Yacht/Beach Club stop.

c) If you are at Cape May Cafe and want to get back to Pop Century, you could take the boat back to DHS and get the Pop bus there. Or walk back to DHS and get the Pop bus there. Or, if you have park hopper passes, walk over to Epcot's International Gateway (back) entrance, go into Epcot, walk through to the front of Epcot and out, and pick up a bus there. Or take an Uber/Lyft/Minnie Van/cab from the Beach Club back to Pop.

d) If you want to do Quick Service, there are cupcakes at DHS. I believe Backlot Express usually has cupcakes (check the menu). The Starbucks (Trolley Car Cafe) always has cupcakes. The quick service places on Sunset Blvd (Rosie's All American Cafe and the places near there) sometimes have 1 type of cupcake at each restaurant.

Hollywood Brown Derby is our go to at HS and would work for either a celebration or not. Of late we've taken to eating at the lounge simply because I'm tired of the looking for an ADR game but we've eaten in the restaurant as well on holidays as well or when we just want plush seats and A/C, LOL.

Should the menu not appeal to you, take a look see at the eateries at the nearby Boardwalk where you'll find lots of choices.

Thank you for such a detailed explanation of navigating to/from the various locations! And for the info about the cupcakes!
