Terra Nova Guy and the Raiders of the Lost Park - an August 2018 TR *COMPLETE* 4/28

This looks like the stuff nightmares are made of.
Good point. If you didn't know any better, you would think the lady in the purple dress was about to do some kind of death defying walk the plank type thing.

Come pick up your Official No-Prize® at the window.
I wonder if I had asked for a Celebration button would they give it to me? :p

And you're SO looking forward to that day. Admit it.
I'm definitely looking forward to certain aspects of an adults only trip. I may have to meet a princess anyway or risk suffering withdrawal.
No, thanks, I'm good. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:
You don't think your boys would go for it?

Good point. If you didn't know any better, you would think the lady in the purple dress was about to do some kind of death defying walk the plank type thing.
We wants the redhead!!
Oh wait...not for walking the plank. ;)

I wonder if I had asked for a Celebration button would they give it to me? :p
They would. They'll give you a button for just about anything. Getting wisdom teeth out, getting an ADR at O'hana, getting a FP for Pandora, back surgery....you know all the really painful stuff.

I'm definitely looking forward to certain aspects of an adults only trip. I may have to meet a princess anyway or risk suffering withdrawal.
Adults only or even solo is a completely different dynamic. As is living locally.
I find now I can go and not ride a single ride and still be content. Also, when solo, you don't have to get consensus on what to do next. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy going with DW and DD, but solo has its benefits also.

The girls' drawings are really beautiful! Love that Elsa one especially.

I can understand your frustration at Casey's. It's hot dogs, it shouldn't be that difficult to get them out to you quickly and correctly! No complicated dishes or plating going on there.

I'm so glad the girls were successful in meeting all of the princesses! What a fun challenge! I'd love to try it out with DD next trip, but I'm sure DS will be ready to hurt me if I make him stand in line for all those princesses. lol

August 26th – Day 9, Part 3 – This Citrus Swirled All Over Me

After completing our Princess meet challenge, we needed a break. We headed back to our go-to place for treats, the “not as crowded as Main Street but has the same stuff” Big Top Treats. We enjoyed a mint and a white chocolate Ear Hat Brownie, a white chocolate drizzled Cake Pop, and a chocolate covered marshmallow with M&Ms. The problem with looking at trip report pictures is that now I want some.

After we had sufficient sugar intake, we hopped on the train for Frontierland. On the way, I tried taking a page from @Steppesister Liesa's book again and attempted some artsy pictures that kind of worked.

We had a FP for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Being my favourite ride, I wanted to get it in on our last day. I enjoyed it as usual, but I was a bit sad to say goodbye.

If you’ve been keeping tabs, you may have noticed that we did not ride Splash Mountain this trip. After Big Thunder, we checked the SB and the wait was 60 minutes. That was more than anybody wanted to wait. The truth is, I don’t do Splash. I did it once 18 years ago. I liked 95% of the ride. I did not like the drop – at all. Hence, I have avoided it since. It’s a bit too intense for Katie as well. Brianna likes it, and Tish has done it with her before, but neither are huge fans. So we skipped Splash. I’m sure that’s blasphemy to some of you. But it’s never been a must do for us.

Being in Frontierland and in need of a break from the heat, we stopped into the Country Bear Jamboree. We had not done this since 2010. It’s not really the girls’ thing, but I like it. What true DIS Dad doesn’t like “blood on the saddle”?

upload_2019-4-12_15-36-39.jpeg

Our next FP was for Peter Pan. It’s a classic and I couldn’t say I had done a Disney trip without going on it.

Being our last day, we had to bookend our trip. Way back in my first day post, I explained how "it’s a small world" had become our first ride tradition. Well, it’s never been our very last ride tradition (I don’t need that song stuck in my head all the way home), but we do like to do it on our last day. Since SB was only 10 minutes, we ticked this off the list.

upload_2019-4-12_15-38-4.jpeg

Our very last FP, and last ride of the trip, was Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Before this trip, this had been Katie’s favourite ride (it was over taken by Slinky Dog). It’s also one that our whole family enjoys, so it seemed like a good last ride. The girls decided to do a silly face for the last ride photo.

upload_2019-4-12_15-38-45.jpeg

It was also nice that we were all in the same car, which happened to be the very first car. One note – 7DMT is not as fun in the front row, especially the drop out of the mine which is a lot slower - you don't pick up speed until half way down the hill. But it’s cool not to have anyone in front of you the whole ride.

DW had wanted a cinnamon bun from Gaston’s Tavern the whole trip. With 10 minutes to spare before they closed, we got one to share. With extra icing of course. If you enjoy cinnamon rolls, this won’t disappoint. The thing is huge, and very tasty.

upload_2019-4-12_15-42-44.jpeg

That also happened to be the last snack credit on our dining plan. (If you’re keeping track, we did not have supper and just snacked our way through our last evening. Vacation is almost over. We’re allowed).

It was close to fireworks time now, and that would be a good way to end our trip. An ice cream from the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor while we waited also sounded like a good idea. Of course everyone else in MK had the same idea. DW and the girls wanted to wait in the Ice Cream Parlor queue. I had a different idea. I had not yet had a Citrus Swirl. I had one on our previous trip and enjoyed it, dare I say even more than a Dole Whip. Of course I wanted to try it again.

I headed into Adventureland to Sunshine Tree Terrace. But there was a little complication – our dining plan. We had used all our snack credits, but we had meal credits left. As you may know, you can convert a meal credit into 3 snack credits. I like that part of the dining plan. DW at the Ice Cream Parlor would use a meal credit to get 3 ice cream if she got through the line, or if I got through faster, I would text her to let her know I had 3 citrus swirls. Either way, the four of us would share 3 snacks.

So, I got to Sunshine Tree and there was no line at all. I ordered two citrus swirls and one citrus swirl float (with orange soda). I was so excited to have gotten through so quickly I forgot to text DW that I had ice cream. I was also excited because I was given four treats – the CM had done three citrus swirls and then remembered one should be a float, so he just gave me the 4th for free. Awesome! Now the four of us had a snack each. My dilemma is that I had no way to let DW know to get out of line at the Parlor, since I now had in my hands a tray that required two hands to carry, which contained rapidly melting ice cream. The walk from Main Street didn’t seem too long on the way over. Let me tell you, when you have ice cream dripping down your body, that walk back feels like you’re going from Main Street to Animal Kingdom.

I booked it back to Main Street as fast as I could, with rivers of citrus swirl pouring down my appendages. I got back to the Parlor --- just as they were getting to the station to place their order. Drat! With their three ice creams, we now had a sum total of seven ice creams for four of us. Well, considering I was bathing in one or two of them, we maybe had less than seven. Of course the girls were all happy with their fresh, pretty ice creams from the Parlor and had no interest in my citrus swirl soup. I am somewhat ashamed to admit what happened next. I have no photographic evidence of this, which is probably a blessing for you, dear readers, because it was not a sight for the faint of heart. What remained intact of the citrus swirls was consumed with great ferocity by yours truly. And after all that, do you know what I realized? I actually don’t like citrus swirl  Well, it’s OK, but not nearly as good as a Dole Whip. Maybe my taste buds have changed in four years? I don’t know. Anyway, it was certainly a memorable last snack in the Magic Kingdom.

After cleaning myself up as best I could, we settled in near one of the trees outside The Plaza for our last viewing of Happily Ever After.

As before, it was enjoyable, but with a touch of sadness knowing that our trip had come to an end. I thought it was a fitting end though and I prefer to finish our trip at night, winding down to that inevitable last slow walk down Main Street. With that, we said our final goodbye to Cinderella Castle and passed under the train station with hopes and wishes to one day return again.

Our time in the parks was done, but we have one final morning in WDW before going home.

upload_2019-4-12_15-47-57.jpeg

I love getting snacks from Big Top Treats- always so much less crowded and smells just as good in there!

SOunds like a nice time getting on some final rides!

Oh my that sounds like a lot of ice creams! Good thing you were able to take one of the team ;)

A good end to the evening :)

But it’s never been a must do for us.

What true DIS Dad doesn’t like “blood on the saddle”?
I couldn't understand a damn word last time I went in there. I know my hearing sucks, but I really needed subtitles.

it was over taken by Slinky Dog

SDD is definitely better.

It was also nice that we were all in the same car, which happened to be the very first car.

I've yet to ride this with my wife...we're always doing rider swap.

DW had wanted a cinnamon bun from Gaston’s Tavern the whole trip. With 10 minutes to spare before they closed, we got one to share. With extra icing of course. If you enjoy cinnamon rolls, this won’t disappoint. The thing is huge, and very tasty.

reminds me of my walk from Poly lobby to DVC room...which you can read about here

Drat! With their three ice creams, we now had a sum total of seven ice creams for four of us.

I fail to see the problem here. You can never have too much ice cream.

And after all that, do you know what I realized? I actually don’t like citrus swirl

Perhaps it was b/c you had too much of a good thing?

After cleaning myself up as best I could, we settled in near one of the trees outside The Plaza for our last viewing of Happily Ever After.

Sweet view of that guys phone. hahaha

We headed back to our go-to place for treats, the “not as crowded as Main Street but has the same stuff” Big Top Treats.

I finally went to the area... even rode Barnstormer... but missed this. I even looked, but didn't find it.

The problem with looking at trip report pictures is that now I want some.

 Always a danger

After we had sufficient sugar intake

There's an amount that's "sufficient"???

Nice! Like that one.

I did not like the drop – at all.

Concentrate on the photo. You won't even notice.

So we skipped Splash. I’m sure that’s blasphemy to some of you.

Nah. I used to think Space Mountain was the best ride ever... now I don't even want to go on it.

What true DIS Dad doesn’t like “blood on the saddle”?

Our next FP was for Peter Pan. It’s a classic and I couldn’t say I had done a Disney trip without going on it.

::yes::

I have a first and last day tradition too! Actually, it lasts the whole trip. It's to not go on IASW.

The girls decided to do a silly face for the last ride photo.

upload_2019-4-12_15-38-45-jpeg.394124

 Success!

DW had wanted a cinnamon bun from Gaston’s Tavern the whole trip. With 10 minutes to spare before they closed, we got one to share. With extra icing of course. If you enjoy cinnamon rolls, this won’t disappoint. The thing is huge, and very tasty.

Had that once. Sooo good.

I had not yet had a Citrus Swirl.

and have not had that yet... but plan on rectifying that in a few weeks.

As you may know, you can convert a meal credit into 3 snack credits.

Did not know that. Been many years since I've used the dining plan.

I was so excited to have gotten through so quickly I forgot to text DW that I had ice cream.

uh, oh...

With their three ice creams, we now had a sum total of seven ice creams for four of us.

I don't see this as a problem.

What remained intact of the citrus swirls was consumed with great ferocity by yours truly.

Atta boy. Took one for the team.

And after all that, do you know what I realized? I actually don’t like citrus swirl

:lmao:

I love your citrus swirl story, I pictured you all orange and sticky, :rotfl:

I tried this once and also realized not my favorite, to much orange for me!

What a nice last evening with your family!

Oh wow that citrus swirl situation sounds like a HOT MESS!!! Literally & figuratively!!! It was a nice idea though. :confused3

The last night in the parks is always so bittersweet, but it makes it just a tiny bit better when you know you have a little bit of time in the morning, at least.

Not going to try to respond to everything

The citrus swirls...I think they've changed the recipe. I used to absolutely love them. The last time I went it was meh.

After completing our Princess meet challenge, we needed a break. We headed back to our go-to place for treats, the “not as crowded as Main Street but has the same stuff” Big Top Treats.
I finally stumbled upon Big Top treats last summer and it is a great place to pick up a snack.

We had a FP for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Being my favourite ride, I wanted to get it in on our last day. I enjoyed it as usual, but I was a bit sad to say goodbye.
Always bittersweet.

Our next FP was for Peter Pan. It’s a classic and I couldn’t say I had done a Disney trip without going on it.
Love PPF so much!

You did well with your FPs!

Awesome! This such a funny story (I am sure it wasn't funny at the time)

And a great story!

Our time in the parks was done, but we have one final morning in WDW before going home.
It's always sad leaving MK for the last time.

We headed back to our go-to place for treats, the “not as crowded as Main Street but has the same stuff” Big Top Treats.
I love Big Top Treats! They have great stuff - sometimes I think they have a bigger variety than the Confectionary - and I like looking at the merchandise, too.

DW had wanted a cinnamon bun from Gaston’s Tavern the whole trip.
Mmm, I love these. Haven't had one on our last 2 trips but might have to remedy that next month!

Very nice last evening, runny ice cream aside lol. I love/hate that last night, especially when you don't know when you'll be back :sad1: But I kind of prefer when we have some park time on our departure day, not sure why but maybe leaving a park for the last time in the daylight isn't quite as sad??? Unfortunately we've had early flights on our last 2 trips and it's happening again next month but I believe in October I get to take a late, late flight home :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I agree with you on Splash Mountain. Love the theme and music but hate that big drop at the end. In my opinion, you finished out your last MK day with three of the best attractions in the park. (Thunder, Peter, and Small World)

Oh my gosh, that ice cream story!!! I was laughing out loud, imagining you four tackling 7 ice creams. What a way to end the night!

After we had sufficient sugar intake, we hopped on the train for Frontierland. On the way, I tried taking a page from @Steppesister Liesa's book again and attempted some artsy pictures that kind of worked.

Hey! That's a really good photo!!

And I like this one even BETTER! Nice job!

I enjoyed it as usual, but I was a bit sad to say goodbye.

Always a sad moment. :(

But it’s never been a must do for us.

I enjoy it too, but it's not an every-trip-ride for me either. But, I haven't gotten to in quite a few trips and would sure like to soon.

but I like it. What true DIS Dad doesn’t like “blood on the saddle”?

I'm a Old Disney-fart at heart and like CBJ on occasion too. No shame here.

LOL!! Love this!

It was also nice that we were all in the same car, which happened to be the very first car. One note – 7DMT is not as fun in the front row, especially the drop out of the mine which is a lot slower - you don't pick up speed until half way down the hill. But it’s cool not to have anyone in front of you the whole ride.

The good, the bad, and the truth.

If you enjoy cinnamon rolls, this won’t disappoint. The thing is huge, and very tasty.

Still like Kusafiri's better, but this one is still amazing and worth some stomach room.

So, I got to Sunshine Tree and there was no line at all. I ordered two citrus swirls and one citrus swirl float (with orange soda). I was so excited to have gotten through so quickly I forgot to text DW that I had ice cream.

I see (fear) where this is headed...

Let me tell you, when you have ice cream dripping down your body, that walk back feels like you’re going from Main Street to Animal Kingdom.

WHERE IS THE TAG FAIRY?!!!!

with rivers of citrus swirl pouring down my appendages

See previous comment. ^

And after all that, do you know what I realized? I actually don’t like citrus swirl

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Hi Jeff! I've been off of here for a few weeks but just binge read the last day of your trip. Sad to see it over, but happy to hear you all have a little more WDW time on the last day. Hopefully they aren't taking you to the outlet mall again :P

We enjoyed a mint and a white chocolate Ear Hat Brownie, a white chocolate drizzled Cake Pop, and a chocolate covered marshmallow with M&Ms. The problem with looking at trip report pictures is that now I want some.

Always a danger of these TR's.

I like that one.

I hear ya. I only got on because my kids forced me to. Otherwise I'm happy to skip it.

What true DIS Dad doesn’t like “blood on the saddle”?

I have skipped the Country Bears on every single visit. I have no regrets.

The girls decided to do a silly face for the last ride photo.

Nice work.

If you enjoy cinnamon rolls, this won’t disappoint. The thing is huge, and very tasty.

When did the sugar crash happen?

(If you’re keeping track, we did not have supper and just snacked our way through our last evening. Vacation is almost over. We’re allowed).

Well, at least it was all healthy, nutritional food.

I was given four treats – the CM had done three citrus swirls and then remembered one should be a float, so he just gave me the 4th for free. Awesome! Now the four of us had a snack each.

:woohoo: for bonus snacks!

Let me tell you, when you have ice cream dripping down your body, that walk back feels like you’re going from Main Street to Animal Kingdom.

:rotfl2: I can only imagine.

What remained intact of the citrus swirls was consumed with great ferocity by yours truly. And after all that, do you know what I realized? I actually don’t like citrus swirl  Well, it’s OK, but not nearly as good as a Dole Whip.

:rotfl::rotfl2: I feel like you did definitive research in this instance.

With that, we said our final goodbye to Cinderella Castle and passed under the train station with hopes and wishes to one day return again.

I always hate that feeling when it comes. :sad1:

liked 95% of the ride. I did not like the drop – at all. Hence, I have avoided it since.

Just checking your math. Splash Mountain is about 11 minutes of cute storytelling, great animations and catchy, classic tunes. About 10 seconds of that (and 10 seconds being a very generous estimate) is the drop. 11 minutes is 660 seconds, so 10 seconds of that is 1.5% of the ride. So technically, you liked 98.5% of the ride. What a shame that pesky 1.5% of the ride just ruins the whole thing for you ;)

That also happened to be the last snack credit on our dining plan. (If you’re keeping track, we did not have supper and just snacked our way through our last evening. Vacation is almost over. We’re allowed).

A+ use of the dining plan. We came home with a suitcase full of Rice Krispies treats and Goofy candy so I admire a family as dedicated to snacking as you.

Sounds like your last night in the Magic Kingdom was definitely bittersweet (the sweet coming from all that ice cream you ate ;))

We headed back to our go-to place for treats, the “not as crowded as Main Street but has the same stuff” Big Top Treats.

We discovered this last trip. We will be going there again.

The problem with looking at trip report pictures is that now I want some.

I was just thinking the same thing.

We had a FP for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Being my favourite ride, I wanted to get it in on our last day. I enjoyed it as usual, but I was a bit sad to say goodbye.

Love BRMRR! Good choice.

This is blasphemy, Splash is my favorite themed ride in MK. I love the drop! Sorry it doesn't do it for you.

Our next FP was for Peter Pan. It’s a classic and I couldn’t say I had done a Disney trip without going on it.

This is my favorite Fantasyland ride. You redeemed yourself on this one.

Very good last ride of the trip.

With their three ice creams, we now had a sum total of seven ice creams for four of us. Well, considering I was bathing in one or two of them, we maybe had less than seven. Oh dear what a mess. But still very funny.

I hate when the end comes. Saying goodbye to the Magic Kingdom is the hardest.

I enjoyed your report and hope you go back soon.

Hi everyone, I appreciate all the replies! I haven't been able to respond until now - work/life balance has been tipping in the wrong direction lately. DW is also pretty sick with the flu (literally been in bed all week) so I've been Mr. Mom around the house too. Anyway, time for a few quick replies now.

I love getting snacks from Big Top Treats- always so much less crowded and smells just as good in there!
I really think it's a hidden gem.

that looks disgustingly awesome.
It's a good cinnamon bun. If you like that kind of thing, I would definitely recommend it.

reminds me of my walk from Poly lobby to DVC room...which you can read about here
I think I remember reading that before. Always "fun" when that stuff happens.

I finally went to the area... even rode Barnstormer... but missed this. I even looked, but didn't find it.
Hmm...it's a pretty big red tent. Directly across from Dumbo I think. It's to the left of the Goofy/Pluto/Minnie/Daisy meet & greet.

Concentrate on the photo. You won't even notice.
I should probably give Splash another try. Maybe it won't be nearly as bad as I remember form 18 years ago. I found that RnRC wasn't nearly as bad the second time around.

I love your citrus swirl story, I pictured you all orange and sticky, :rotfl:
It made for a good story :p

The last night in the parks is always so bittersweet, but it makes it just a tiny bit better when you know you have a little bit of time in the morning, at least.
After a busy week in the parks, we like to sleep in an slowly get ourselves prepared for the trip home. It's sad either way, but at least we don't have to rush out first thing in the morning.

The citrus swirls...I think they've changed the recipe. I used to absolutely love them. The last time I went it was meh.
You may be right. I remember loving it 4 years ago (well...almost 5 years ago now). Either that or my taste has changed in my old age.

You did well with your FPs!
I was pretty happy with our FP this trip, we got every big ride we really wanted.

I love Big Top Treats! They have great stuff - sometimes I think they have a bigger variety than the Confectionary - and I like looking at the merchandise, too.
I hardly look at the Confectionary anymore. Being able to do a little shopping - and I don't mind when it's Disney shopping - is a bonus too.

What an awesome last evening in MK! Do you all have another trip planned any time soon???
Well...you will find out in my last morning update, but the short answer is no. But I wish we did.

I agree with you on Splash Mountain. Love the theme and music but hate that big drop at the end.
I have been thinking that maybe I should give in and try Splash again. Maybe it won't be as bad as I remember???

Hey! That's a really good photo!!
Thank!. Except for the dude on the train staring at me.

Hi Jeff! I've been off of here for a few weeks but just binge read the last day of your trip. Sad to see it over, but happy to hear you all have a little more WDW time on the last day. Hopefully they aren't taking you to the outlet mall again :P
Hi Kari! Nice to see you back. Thanks for catching up. Yes, I have one more post to finish it all off. Definitely no outlet mall!

I hear ya. I only got on because my kids forced me to. Otherwise I'm happy to skip it.
I am happy to skip it too. But the more I hear people say they love Splash, the more I think I should try it again. Maybe it won't be quite as bad.

I have skipped the Country Bears on every single visit. I have no regrets.
It's certainly not a must do every trip, but it's kind of fun. At least somewhere to sit down in the AC and take a break, if nothing else.

A+ use of the dining plan. We came home with a suitcase full of Rice Krispies treats and Goofy candy so I admire a family as dedicated to snacking as you.
We did well with the snack credits. Meal credits on the other hand...well, if you have time, come back for my last post. More than a couple Goofy candy bags came home with us.

This is blasphemy, Splash is my favorite themed ride in MK. I love the drop! Sorry it doesn't do it for you.
I know. I really think that maybe I should give it another try. Some day. Maybe....:)
