Ya .. I mean I've already been toying with cancelling Netflix, especially since they announced another price increase coming in May. I'm not interested in all their original programming and that is all they seem to have on there anymore. Mainly the kids use it to watch shows, but that can be replaced by Amazon Prime or this new Disney+.

Netflix has been great with all the recent Disney movies, but once those go away, the switch to a cheaper Disney+ will be easy.

I mean .. can I just sign up today? :)

extra thankful I got Roku.
I love my Roku but do watch how hot (temperature) it gets while plugged in. I always unplug it esp when away from the house for any length of time. Never have any problem just plugging it right back in. Just plug and play after initial set up (and that was easy). Took my 10 yr old tv and made it smart.

That will be the downside for it -- getting it to your TV without having to buy another smart device. A lot of older smart TVs won't have the app (like they Do with Netflix and Hulu) and not sure if Amazon Fire Stick will have the app on release yet. I use Netflix and Prime and Hulu via my Smart TV and my old PS3 -- but not sure if it will auto-update to include Disney+ (I have my doubts) or if PS3 will include the app (or just PS4). I have an Amazon Fire Stick (we use to watch Disney Now).

Hopefully Disney will give away free Roku's for initial subscribers or something if it will only be available on Roku for a while.

I wonder it they will have the original anthology Television series: Wonderful World of Disney/Walt Disneys Wonderful World of Color. This was must see TV when I was a kid, the only show where the whole family would gather together and watch.

I am a little disappointed with the roku and playstation only at launch. while I do have roku devices they are not on my main TV as I prefer the fire sticks. Actually the roku stick I have shuts down and reboots randomly so I dont even really use it much anymore.

Also hoping some disney jr stuff is going to be there and just not listed. I am getting ready to drop directvnow with the recent changes and will loose access to the disney now app. was hoping this service could replace that disney access.

They are expecting it to be on a wide array of platforms at launch, those 2 are the only confirmed ones they can talk about right now.

I’m kind of excited about the programming. There’s a lot of new content (Jeff Goldblum and several of the Science +behind the scenes type programs are sounding interesting) and interesting sounding spinoffs too (new marvel shows!)

It is the original programming that is really selling it for me

The ones you mention but also the one on Imagineering and the one on the Ink and Paint Girls that was announced those I think will be very interesting

Wonder if there will be an App for the Apple TV to watch this.:happytv:

This is built of the back of the BamTech service that Disney acquired. That service already drives many iOS/tvOS apps, so for Disney the hard work is already done. I'd expect support at launch. While the ATV is not a huge market, iOS is, and Disney aren't going to ignore it, and the two are so similar that an ATV port is comparatively trivial.

My guess is there will be a lot of companies who will support this out of the gate (I.E. LG/Samsung TVs), but aren't ready to pre-announce because they don't want to risk slowing sales of existing TVs to consumers concerned they may not see updates (the industry has a lousy track record, so trust is low).

[eta: it'll be interesting to see if this service integrates into the TV service on tvOS/iOS - if it will, expect a hard announce at Apple's WWDC event in June.]

At this point it's really only the Marvel Original programs that are appealing to me.

A big thing for me will be if the picture and sound quality match Netflix. Most of the Netflix originals are broadcast in either Dolby Vision or Ultra 4K with Dolby Atmos sound. If it doesn't have that I probably won't pay for it. We have Amazon Prime and I never watch it because it doesn't have this quality that really makes my home theatre room sing.

I'm in the same boat with Netflix. I enjoy some of their original programming, but most of it we don't watch. With the affordability of Disney+, and the price increase coming for Netflix, I think my family will choose Disney+ over Netflix. We have Amazon Prime as well, and we enjoy it and will keep it.

I did a deal last black Friday to get Hulu for 99 cents a month (for a year). Guess I will be dropping that (was probably going to drop it anyhow) and adding this. Won't give up Amazon because I enjoy the shipping (and that renews in June anyhow). May have to think about our Netflix subscription. (We now have the multiple screen upcharge for Netflix, that could definitely go)

Got a dumb question. I have a smart tv. Haven’t used none of the smart tv features because I get my Netflix and amazon prime right through Xfinity apps. How can I see Disney plus? Will it be available with my smart tv or will I need a Roku if Disney and Xfinity doesn’t have a agreement where Disney is on the Xfinity apps? I’m in whatever I have to do to watch it. Thanks

Depending on the age/manufacturer of the smart tv you may get an update. Otherwise you'll need a 3rd party streaming device. The likelihood of Xfinity offering this is not high IMHO.

Thanks. I have a Sony that I got Christmas. It will be nice if Disney and Xfinity have a agreement but not expecting it.
