"Go Find a Table and I'll wait in line"

Do you sit at Quick Service Tables without having your food?

I got to page 5, then skipped to page 14 because it's getting late. But my thoughts are basically this:

I think the main reason this never even crossed my mind as something to be annoyed about is because this is how every fast food and fast casual place I've been to typically works...you see part of a party go grab a table while part of a party waits in line. As a kid, teen, adult, no matter who I was with or how busy a place was, people would do this. And sometimes it meant you couldn't immediately find a free table at those places, too. (Our local Panera can quite regularly be like this.)

So it never dawned on me to be annoyed by anyone doing the same thing at a park.

The solution is clearly to put in more seats.

And I would be willing to bet this WILL be happening once SWGE opens.

They did that for quite a long time at Satu'li; they actively patrolled, even outside to make sure those sitting at tables where eating there and directed people up to the line to get food prior to sitting, or grabbing a table.

I do this and I don't find it rude at all. My family eats at a lot of restaurants like that in our area. I travel to NYC a lot and eat at places like that. I look for a seat and make sure I have one before I order food. I would never want to be standing there with a tray with nowhere to sit.

In our group we have one person write the order down in their phone, the rest go to sit. No need to have a bunch of people standing in line either.

I honestly couldn't not care less what others do. We have a great time and don't worry about others.

While I agree with the sentiment that people shouldn't let things others do ruin their day, I think a big problem in society is people not thinking enough of others. That's precisely the reason this table saving discussion even exists. People don't really care that others have to walk around with trays clogging up the aisles, letting their food get cold while trying to find a place to sit as long as they themselves have a place to sit.

No it isn't their business actually..Holding a table is a normal thing to do..why have 4 in a line when only 1 needs to order. thats common sense.

You don't need to either have everyone in line or have most of the party take a table while the rest orders. There are other options. Have the rest of the party wait somewhere to the side out of the way or outside the food area until you have food.

Common sense is having "good sense and sound judgment in practical matters." It's being able to judge a situation and realizing that sometimes different situations call for different actions. If there are loads of tables empty, then there's no harm in having your party sit and wait. If all the tables are packed and people with food are waiting for tables, it should be common sense that those with food need a table more than someone without food. Also, as has been pointed out, more people can rotate through the tables when people are not saving them while waiting for food. That's basic math and also common sense.

Deal with it. No one will stop anyone from saving a table while others order...life goes on........

It's been pointed out several times on here that Disney DOES at times prevent people from saving tables while others order. They have obviously seen that table saving is an issue at certain times and prevent people from doing it.

Agreed

Really the solution is....If folks want to save a table...good for them, nothing wrong with it at all...I certainly do it.
If folks don't want to..then don't. I wont complain when you don't...so don't whine when the rest do... Fair right?

No. Not recently. Disney seems to be moving away from this.

I really think they have more issues trying to unclog the entry way/ordering area/mobile pick up area during super busy times. They don't seem worried about who is sitting at the tables.

On here thats the poll. Thats not a real reflection of what actually happens. Just look next time...EVERYONE holds a table. Its s non issue. Complete non issue.
Incorrect. Not "everyone" can or does hoard a table for a substantial period of time before their food arrives.
Some parties can't - one adult with small children, solo visitors, etc. Some parties don't, because they are considerate of others.
Me and my sister eat a lot faster than our parents, maybe up to 15 minutes faster depending on what everyone is eating.
So, the majority would find it rude that we sat sat there waiting for them, because after all, we're sitting there without food for a good few minutes...
of
Sigh. No, and you know it.

Again...if Disney would just have CM's control the seating areas this would be an absolute non-issue (which it CLEARLY is not right now).

And I would be willing to bet this WILL be happening once SWGE opens.
I imagine CM's will only let a few people at a time into the SWGE counter service location or the place will be swarmed. I can't imagine they'll offer mobile order right away. But who knows. It'll be interesting to see how that unfolds.

The real problem is the folks that don't save a table.....they gum everything up. Like left lane slow drivers...

I find this comparison really interesting. In my opinion, the left lane slow drivers are like the people who save tables. They "save" their spot in the left lane so that when they eventually would need to pass someone going slower in the middle or right lane, they don't have to try to switch lanes which may be packed with other drivers. They find it easier to stay in the left lane than to risk not being able to switch lanes when they need to. They disregard the fact that if less people drove slowly in the left lane, it wouldn't be as difficult to get into the left lane to pass somebody as it wouldn't be as gummed up with people who didn't need the faster lane. They don't see how them driving slowly in the left lane is inconsiderate to those in the other lanes who can't get around them.

Likewise, people who save tables save their spot so that when they eventually do get their food, they don't have to worry about looking for and finding a table. They find it easier to already have a table than to risk not being able to get one when they have their food and need it. They disregard the fact that if less people saved tables, it wouldn't be as difficult to find a table once you had your food as the tables wouldn't be so crowded with people who didn't need them. They don't see how saving a table is inconsiderate to those who have their food and need a table but can't get one.

Yes I was just reading some of the overwrought negative comments and thinking, "Do people really worry this much about what everyone else is doing while on vacation?"
When it directly affects me, yes.
Alot of folks out there are debbie downers......and apparently table police...lol
No. We're realists.
Hall monitor is probably a volunteer position..so can't be professional. Table police also. Table police is the folks that mind everyones business except their own. Like the videos we have all seen on the news lately...folks calling police on a kid selling lemonade.....
Seriously? Needing a place to sit with one's food but being unable to find a table because many of them are occupied by parties whose food is still 15 minutes away is being table police?
but worse than that, I was horrified at my own behavior.
Why? You were in the right. But that is separate from the topic of this thread.
I know. We have NEVER had a bad time or issue at WDW/DLR We just do our thing and don't complain about stupid things. We love it and have a great time. It is amazing what people look for to either complain or whine about. Oh, well. We choose not to do that. Life is better!
It is regrettable that some posters think this is a 'stupid thing'.

D
Why have four at a table when none have food yet or are ready to (and won't for 15 or so minutes)?

If you have scarcity, perceived or real, people will start hoarding. Everything has seen the videos of people trampling over each other at a Black Friday sale, and this is no different. Fear of missing out, fear of not getting a seat, it's all the same.
This is extremely different. People who already have food are being denied tables at which to eat it, because people whose food might be 10 or 15 minutes away hoard tables.

That really is the best solution. Problem is, it requires more space.

May I ask how you hold this table and wait in line at the same time?

Please provide the post number of numbers where any of us have indicated we "don't want" to. All I've seen is posts from people who can't.

And what should solos do? Not eat? Or only eat at TS restaurants?

Some restaurants have a long counter against a wall or against windows with stools or chairs for people eating alone. The CS places could offer this sort of seating.

I would expect that they would control seating access, not restaurant access.

Or, everybody's could be considerate of everybody else and only take a table when they have their food. Especially at WDW, where counter service restaurants don't have the type of seating described. For that matter, why should solo travelers and small parties be relegated to counter stools?

Im a few glasses of scotch behind you apparently..let me catch up. lol But, if less folks are in line..it will move faster..even if one person is ordering for 4. Then you don't have that idiot family member that changes their mind 3 times.. You get them seated...bring their food and either they eat or starve. Its counter service...not rocket science...order and move on..VERY efficient.
Note: Curb your enthusiasm comes to mind about this thread.....
