Just checked into the Dolphin and they told us they are cutting off the power from 2am-5am. Really wish they would have said that sooner I would have cancelled and booked somewhere else. Not looking forward to having no A/C :guilty:

Yeah, that's not something any hotel will announce earlier than a day or two. We've been through 2 of these at WDW resorts in the middle of summer. One was 2 hours the other was 2.5. Both ended up being fine. It helps to have your room as cold as it will go before the power gets cut.

Ya but they didn’t let us know a day or two early. They told us the moment we checked in. They should have sent us an email

They may not have known a day or two ago. Sure, if it was preventative maintenance scheduled well in advance, they should have notified you. But sometimes, something happens that must be repaired ASAP.

The manager told us they found out on Monday. They refunded our money I booked a stay at the beach club instead

I know its not ideal, my hotel last week left a note & 2 bottles of water in my room saying water would be shut off a few hours overnight.

Power can be lost at any time during a storm or unforeseen incident, I guess notice allows you to cool a room, keep a fridge shut, & charge all devices beforehand. Makes you thankful for how reliable our power is in this country...most of the time. I know we lost power (not planned) at WDW the night before our runDisney event, then I couldn't sleep because I was afraid alarm wouldn't sound & we'd miss our bus.

If it had been last minute I would have been annoyed but understood. It’s that they’ve known for a week and didn’t think to tell anyone until check in. We have to get early for a wedding tomorrow so not sleeping tonight isn’t ideal. But it’s fine now I found another room so it worked out in the end.

Not if the ac shut off it would get very hot and humid. What if there is an emergency high floor no power.
I guess. Figure it's no different than a power outage due to a storm or something. I seriously doubt it will get very hot at 2 AM
I get being annoyed and if you have to get up early, like before 5 AM, it makes a difference.
Glad you got a solution that made you happy

You use the stairs like you would in any emergency. Elevators do not work if there is a fire. Smoke/fire detection systems always have a back-up so that they work even without electricity. Especially in a hotel they are required to.

This would not be a reason I would have moved resorts. We've lost power in the middle of the day during the summer at our house before and it takes a while before the house becomes hot and humid. In the middle of the night, when temperatures are cooler and you're in a room that does not have open windows, I really doubt it would become uncomfortable enough where you'd wake up and be miserable. We would have just slept right through it.

I guess it could be an issue if a guest has mobility issues and can’t use the stairs. Sure, power can go down at any time, but knowing that the power is shut off for a certain amount of time could cause anxiety for some.

Though the AC isn’t a real issue this time of year there are people that need to be up and getting ready to go out at 4am. What if they had an early flight, or had to be ready for early wedding pictures. And there are many more that will be up in the middle of the night to use the very dark restroom. People have all have different needs. It’s very weird they wouldn’t warn you as soon as they knew.
