Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

Is anyone finding Pops CS lacking recently? Or maybe I just hold Pop to a higher standard? My husband and I were talking and this is our third straight stay in a row with multiple issues and we ALWAYS over look and come back.

This trip from day 1 it’s been something. We’re on day 3, and we’ve yet to receive housekeeping. For the record we did NOT opt out either. I’ve called twice now and I’ve basically got a “what do you want us to do” back. And then when I ask for my room cleaned they still don’t come. It honestly wouldn’t be that big of an issue but we have a 10month old so our trash needs taken out lol.
It depends who you get. We’ve always had great customer service from everyone we’ve spoken to there over the years.

Even when we had issues in the room (blood in the bathroom, broken shower) - they took care of us promptly

That's awesome! If you're ever in the food court, could you check the bakery case for cheese and cherry/cheese danish? Checking at breakfast would be best, but anytime you're around would be fantastic! Have a great trip!
Just fyi, Iowamomof4, I was looking for cheese danish at POP too, and didn't see them during my trip last week :-( -not sure if I had bad timing or they aren't there at all (I did eat 2 at Early Morning Magic at Hollywood Studios, though :-) LOL)

Thank you for the report, even if it isn't good news. :flower:

I'm staying at POP Century for the first time end of April. I'm trying to determine what building to request on the off chance that they actually pay attention to that request. Are all of the rooms refurbished now? Are there some buildings to avoid? I'm a very light sleeper so noise is an issue. I know I want to try for a top floor. Are all of the rooms now the queen bed with the queen murphy bed? Are there certain sections that are more peaceful than others? My room category is standard view. Thanks for the advice!

I like 70's or 60's because none of the buildings in those decades are particularly far away. Our first time we went we requested 70's and got it and the location was quite good. This time we're trying for 60's, but I'm nervous because there are not as many standard rooms in 60's so I figure we have less of a chance to get our request granted. Hmm... maybe I should switch us to a request for the 70's again. :scratchin

All of the rooms have been refurbished. They all have the queen bed and the queen murphy bed except for the rooms that have just a king bed in them (there aren't very many of these).

Personally the only rooms I wouldn't want are the ones facing the pools and since you booked standard that shouldn't be an option for you. Requesting top floor should help unless you're like us and get terrible neighbors next door. Sometimes you just can't do anything about your neighbors. We talked to them two separate mornings and it didn't change much. I would still request top floor since it helps take out someone above you as an option. Dh and I use our headphones and listen to fan noise while we sleep or play it out loud in the room.

I've read that 60's lake view (which are standard rooms) are peaceful and quiet. We requested that but didn't get them. They are close to AoA and you get a view of the lake. If you don't get that, we were in building 10 and it was super close to the buses. You just have to walk through the parking lot and the buses are right there.

Used the laundry facility which was clean and convenient, but beware that all setting on the dryer seemed to be hot. Don't put anything in that's prone to shrinking.

I find that if you have the "performance fabrics", which are really just polyester, you can't put them in these super hot Disney dryers. What we do is request extra hangers and just hang them up in the room to air dry. They do so in about 4-5 hours. The washers are fairly efficient at spinning out the water.

Those Disney dryers are great for cottons and we find that 1 cycle is enough to dry a good sized load. My husband knows that if he accidently puts one of the polyester items in the super hot dryer and kills it he has to sleep with one eye open, because I'm coming for him in the darkness of night.

You can always request extra hangers from housekeeping to facilitate the hanger method of drying.

We just returned from 6 nights at Pop (2/25/2019 to 3/3/2019), our first time here, and we had a great stay! We usually go to WDW every 3 to 6 years and stay at moderate and deluxe resorts or off-site, so not sure what to expect at a Value. We were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of Pop. We booked two rooms: one for my husband and me and the other, a handicap accessible room with roll-in shower, for my brother who is disabled. Our rooms were bright, cheerful and very clean. I walked around in white socks on the wood laminate floors and they stayed fairly white. Housekeeping did a great job keeping our rooms clean and re-stocked with fresh towels, coffee and other supplies. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. The rooms are on the small size but plenty of room for two people with the Murphy bed up, and lots of storage; it could be tight with four people in a room. The bathroom is fantastic and the shower system beats most 4 star hotels. We were on the ground floor and could hear some faint, muffled sounds from our neighbors or outside but it was not at all disturbing. We used DME luggage service and our luggage was delivered to our room about 4 hours after we checked-in. Since we were arriving in the evening, we packed our overnight items and first day clothes in our carry-on bags so the delay didn't affect us.

All the CMs we interacted with at Pop were very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. We didn't use the pools (too busy at the parks everyday!) but the Hippie Dippy pool looked very nice and inviting. The grounds were well kept, and the resort has a nice, happy, energetic vibe. The food court was busy at peak times but not unmanageable and the wait times weren't excessive. We had dinner at Pop the first night we arrived and the food was very good. The fried chicken dinner is very tasty and a good deal at $12 (an entire half chicken and two sides), enough for two people to share. The pot roast was also very tasty. We ate the rest of our meals at the parks and had coffee and pastries/muffins in our room in the mornings (the rooms have a small refrigerator and coffeemaker.)

We had put in room requests (connecting rooms in 60s building, lake view, top floor) but got ground floor in building 10 (rooms 0102 and 0103, connecting rooms). We ended up being very happy with this location since it is also close to the food court and bus transportation, and in a quiet area; also, since my brother was in a wheelchair, the ground floor was much easier to navigate (didn't need to use the elevator).

Since this was a 'park vacation' for us (we were at the parks everyday from RD to park closing), Pop was perfect for our needs and we would definitely come back!

I recently stayed at Pop Century for a quick 2 night stay. I haven't seen anyone mention my major problem with the resort, but it is what made me stay away for more than 10 years. It doesn't matter what time of the day or night that I'm leaving or returning to my room, someone is standing just outside theirs, smoking! I cannot tolerate cigarette smoke. I just don't get it. How inconsiderate. These people have ruined a nice resort for me.

Yes, I know I can complain and I have but I resent having to play policeman while on vacation.

I had not witnessed this behavior at other Value resorts prior to my first stay at Pop Century and I've never experienced it at my stays at Moderate resorts.

But, unfortunately, I won't be giving Pop Century another try.

We must have been lucky because we didn't notice anyone smoking, either near our room or elsewhere on resort.

We had this problem at AKL so it’s definitely not resort specific. We would sit out on our balcony and smell cigarette smoke. I’ve also noticed it in the parks more. On our trip in October we were walking behind someone in Epcot that was just walking and smoking, as if that’s an okay thing to do.

My son and his wife had a next-door neighbor at All Star Sports a few years ago that insisted it was his "right" to smoke outside his room. We also had people smoking in the outdoor stairwells in the Lion King and Nemo buildings on 2 different stays at AoA. The ones on the LK stairs were really annoying because it always seemed to be when it was raining. They'd sit on the steps and it was impossible to get past them without literally crawling over them yet they acted like everyone else was inconveniencing *them*. Ironically, in 3 stays at Pop Century, we never had a problem with smokers.

There are inconsiderate people (smoking or otherwise) at every level of resort.

I’m sorry this happened but I don’t think your experience is the norm. We stay at Pop 2 or 3 times most years and have only experienced this once in the past 10 years.

I will say I wish they would move the smoking area that is on the main path on the way to the 70’s section. Until they move it the people there are in their full right to smoke there, I just wish it was elsewhere as everyone on the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s walk right by this on their way to and from Classic Hall.

Oh no! I would really have a problem with walking in the park. I have seen people in non-designated areas, but strolling in the walking path.... I'm going to have to say something about that.

I do agree with you about the inconsiderate people. I have an allergy to cigarette smoke and get very sick when exposed, so I think I'm going to have to stick to resorts/hotels that have rooms with interior corridors and no balconies.

That sounds like a very ill conceived smoking section. I wonder what they were thinking.

It has really aggravated me because I, of course, like the price point of Pop Century. My "kids" are 30 and 35 and we spend the entire day in the parks, coming back to the room just to sleep. I don't appreciate being woken up at 3am by smoke seeping into my room or having to pass the gauntlet of smokers standing on the sidewalk in front of the rooms.

I didn't think my experience was that common because I didn't read many posts about it but I was so hopeful things had changed. Unfortunately, for me, they haven't.

I totally agree about the bad placement of that smoking area on the way to the 70's section. Every time I walk past it, I wonder why they put it right there!

Yeah we were walking in World Showcase. I think we were over by Canada? I really can't remember but we could see the guy walking in front of us smoking. We also stood up at the top in the Japan pavilion and there was a group of people who just thought they could stand up there and smoke. Um no....I staked out this spot an hour before Illuminations for a good view, not so I couldn't breathe

My family and I have been to Disney World 5 times, but this fall, I am taking my 15 year old son and we are staying in a Disney resort for the first time!!!! It's just him and I and I'm so excited. We chose Pop Century and will be there Sept 16-21. I am hoping the Skyliner will be up and running smoothly. We are hoping to avoid the buses at all costs, even if we end up doing uber rides instead. LOL I have $40 in uber credits and won't hesitate to use them. Thanks for all the useful info I've read so far!!!

Just curious- why are going to avoid the buses at all costs?

I've heard that it can take FOREVER to get to the parks when you take the bus. We wanna be there for rope drop every single day. Are they not as bad as (what seems like) all the blogs, vlogs, videos, articles, etc. say? I know the monorail and such can get just as busy at times, but every time we've been, we've gotten to the parks pretty darn fast and early with the monorail (or we just drove, but I won't have a car this time).
