Sadly this happens to my husband as well...more work no raise in too many years to count..

Same here. I work in nonprofit too, like @wendow DH. It sure gets tiring. One of my nicknames at work is the "Facilitator of Dreams" because people dream up crazy projects and I figure out how to pull them off.

I was promised a promotion last year that didn't happen. If it doesn't happen at review time this year, I'm out. I'm worried I'm a little worried I stayed in this job too long as it is.

Also, Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

I'm still over here with infected ears and stuffed up head. DH said we were having a very romantic evening of watching Grey's Anatomy and me blowing into snot rags, lol.

Oh no hope you feel better soon

Howdy all. It's been a while since I paid attention here and I'm trying to catch up with all the changes. BTW, WTH with Chase dropping Disney from their portal. Very displeased.

I need to pick a hotel chain to target. I am learning about the new Marriott system and looking at Hyatt and IHG. Any preferences for which chain you like and which reward program?

I need more credit availability for my business. I have an Ink card and plan to get an CIP. But, I'm also looking at other Amex business or the Delta or Marriott Business cards. Prior to the Chase/Disney issue, CIP was a done deal. Now, I'm thinking I need more than just the UR point system. Any preferences for a good business card program?
Hey Rook! It’s been a long time - hope all is well!

The issue with IHG and Hyatt is there are very limited cards out there. Hilton and Marriott offer numerous cards so it is easier to earn lots of points. Marriott has done a lot of questionable moves lately so a lot of us have some angst towards them. Hilton can be good but the value of each point isn’t great. People do seem to speak highly of the Hyatt program though and URs can transfer to that program at 1:1.

Even if you cash out the URs that CIP card is still a good offer (one of the best out there IMO). Despite the split with Disney, I wouldn’t turn my back on URs. Chase is still a favorite of many of us. If you go for a CIP consider supporting another DISer thru a link ;)

Something you may not be aware of is that AMEX has really cracked down on churners. If you get an AMEX card you want to continue to spend on it long beyond the MSR or they will shut you off from future sign up bonuses. People are treading lightly with them and others have just started avoiding them entirely.

Some of us are now chasing American Airlines miles when we figured those were worth 1cpp towards Disney hotels. There’s a lot more about that on DISchurners.

Speaking of which - if you haven’t checked the reddit DISchurners group out for awhile there are some great resources there. Let me know if you need help getting back in there. :D Now you’re somewhat caught up on all the news, lol :)

According to DoC some people are receiving letters their Chase Business cards are being forcibly converted to no-Rewards cards. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/chas...ersion-letters-for-government-entity-clients/ This appears to be affecting people who selected the category “Educational Services, Colleges/Universities/Professional School” If you selected that category keep your eyes out. DoC has reached out to Chase.

How was I supposed to know that? Lol
Is there a dollar limit, like more than $600 or 100 or something? Penalty for sending late?

Anything more than $600. The IRS just expects you to know I guess lol. It's something an accountant would *hopefully* tell you. There's a small penalty for filing late but I'm not exactly sure what it is. Honestly, I probably wouldn't send it.

That I’m not sure about...sorry...missed the earlier posts....did you pay them out a business account or personal...and how would the IRS know :confused3

It doesn't matter what account it's paid out of. They would only know IF you got audited and IF they verified a 1099 was sent for that specific transaction. I believe the penalty for not sending one is $100 per 1099 not sent IF you get audited.

The issue with IHG and Hyatt is there are very limited cards out there.

Speaking of which... Is there any other Hyatt card out there other than Chase WOH? DH still wants one but when he dips below 5/24 next month I don't want to add on another personal card since then he'll be at 5/24 for over a year.

DH is discussing a new job with the CEO of said company. He calls me to fill me in. Starts with "they give me a car." Um, nope, I use the heck out of the hertz points plus the 3x we earn booking the hertz for work every week. That brings me to his next statement..."he also mentioned a company credit card." Double nope. Absolutey not. All these perks are what makes it tolerable that he is out of town 2-4 nights a week and works crazy hours. Keep on searching hun, I can't handle all these changes. Plus, it is in TN. Triple nope.
What do you not like about Tennessee?

Sadly this happens to my husband as well...more work no raise in too many years to count.....and he’s not willing to look for another job since he likes the people he works with and at 59 isn’t likely to find a new one anyway
My Dh hates his coworkers. He’s starting a new project in a different building at the end of this month and he can’t wait. He did apply for some jobs in Georgia today though

Well what the heck why? I may have picked that because I believe I did babysitting as my “job”.

Added to the news thread. Seems to be some reaction to a new law or regulation with some unfortunate folks caught in the crosshairs that don’t belong.

DH got a “promotion” last year. Raise? Nope. But the “possibility” for better bonuses. So far his checks have been smaller. (Salary plus commission) ugh. DH absolutely won’t even look for a new job. His pay took a dive with the recession and never recovered.
Kind of same for my dh. His old job was being phased out back in 2007/2008- Economy tanking, they basically cut the entire IT dept except him and then began outsourcing everything and just had him managing that transition- so he found a new job but also took a 22k paycut to go to work for a nonprofit (that 22k doesn't even account for the increased health insurance costs) and it's been 11+ year and he still isn't at where he was when he left the other company. He actually wanted this promotion because he hopes when he does start looking again, it will help.

I always talk to people and they talk like raises are normal and if you don't get one, something is wrong. I think a lot of people don't realize how many people never get raises. Cost of everything else goes up but my dh gets no more pay. That is exactly why I do what I do for vacation money. When I say we could never afford our trips otherwise, that is 1000% truth.

Are you sure? I used babysitting for my dd18 and I chose the daycare services? Maybe you did as well.

Have you considered the Amex Business Platinum? You can call in for the 100k MR points after $10k MSR in 3 months offer. The Biz Plat earns 1.5x MR on transactions $5k+, and since the Biz Plat is a charge card it has no set credit limit. The AF on this card went up recently, but it comes with a lot of benefits, including those that overlap with the personal Platinums, but also a new $200 Dell credit and a year of WeWork access.

From the Biz Plat, you can self refer to Amex’s other cards, including the Blue Business Plus, a no-fee business credit card that earns 2x MR on every purchase up to $50k per year; and the Gold, which earns 4x MR at US restaurants and supermarkets; or any of Amex’s hotel co-brands including the Marriott and Hilton cards.

Let @Albort or me know if you’re interested in calling in for the Biz Plat. We have a few numbers to Amex reps who should be able to make you the 100k MR/$10k MSR welcome offer. If you need more details about calling in for an offer, I can give you a rundown of what to expect.

ETA: I should add that while you’re under 5/24, you should absolutely focus on opening Chase cards and building your UR points, too; because despite the removal of Disney from the UR portal, UR points are still amazingly flexible and valuable. However, if your focus is on business cards, then great because biz cards from Chase nor Amex add to your 5/24 count. The Amex Biz Plat and BBP would have no bearing on your ability to get the CIP, or a second or third CIP, or Chase’s other Ink cards, the CIC and CIU, as long as you are under 5/24.

Hi...were you looking to stay at a Disney resort or somewhere nearby....with the CIP and UR points you can book any hotel on the Chase travel site..we just stayed at Wyndham Bonnet Creek..which is closer to the parks than some Disney resorts and loved it. I’ve also booked a Marriott Resort in March with UR points
I prefer the flexibility of the UR points

Do you remember if when you booked the WBC through URs, did you have to pay the resort fee? My dh & I stayed there for one night last April, and I just felt nickel and dimed to death. There was a $35'ish resort fee, and iirc, a $22 parking fee. We'd already paid $145 for the room. Then we went to eat and found the prices astronomical! The burger at the pool bar was $17 or $18. We ended up heading over to the Poly to eat at their CS and paid less. Anyways, I liked the resort pool and room and how close it is and love to book through UR's but not interested in all those fees.

for WoH question....nobody here familiar with the program/cc?

I missed your question too. DH was new to program and they assigned him a number and he has been getting the welcome emails. I’ve always had good experience when I have called Hyatt. Unlike some...

General question...got Biz Plat in November and bonus first of January. Given fears of pop up you all think I should keep pushing through with Amex? I have started to have fear that despite my best efforts of using all cards as much as possible I will have a pop up in my future. I really want the BBP. I want the Plat too but am okay without that since it will take a personal spot and I want the Chase biz cards in next 6 months.

You’re probably right. That’s probably what I picked. I honestly have no idea lol

I think I need to be a lot more grateful of where Dh is as a guy in his mid twenties. With me having only a part time job he really does bring home the bacon and he works really hard. He’s gotten a raise every year since he’s been with this company. Even though he doesn’t always like his team, his company is actually pretty beneficial. They paid for his masters in full.

Dh always thanks me though for the travel stuff and that makes me feel good. He knows I have the extra time to do it but him acknowledging it makes me smile. Am I turning into a sappy old lady.....?

LOL, I'll tell my dh your 'title'. I feel like he could relate. Being the, now, Senior Director of IT, he gets all kinds of IT dreams people would like fulfilled. Most cost far more than his work could ever dream of spending. So, he goes about trying to pull rabbits out of hats lol :) He is presenting at a conference in Orlando in march and I am pretty sure they wanted him to speak about how he makes so much IT happen on such a small budget. I also worry he has stayed in this job too long. Being in IT, tech changes fast and his work doesn't have the budget to keep up so he works with more old tech than not.

I'm sorry you are sick. Feel better! V-day has never been a biggie to us. My dh is helping build a drama set right now so I'm just home getting people ready for bed. Not too romantic
