Disney Dream - December 23 2019 - Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida

Hello, nearly empty thread! Despite being 491 days away, I'm logging in to say that we just booked this cruise! It will be our first holiday cruise. We were sitting around drinking our Saturday morning coffee when I linked to the Port Canaveral website just to see the Fantasy sitting in berth. My wife and I both joked we should book a cruise (we average a couple of trips to Disney every year, well, she does at least) but haven't been on a cruise in three years. Again, just for grins, I went to the DCL site to take a gander at how much it would cost for a 4-day trip, no particular date in mind. My wife said "we ought to do a holiday cruise," so I set up the parameters to see what appeared. As we looked at the various cruises, we got talking in more earnest tones, then more excitedly, and finally we just looked at each other and said, "why not?!" Spontaneity at its best. I don't expect too many entries for the next several months but I'll keep checking back. . .pirate:

We have just joined this thread and the cruise ;) We went for a walk on Christmas Eve and were thinking - wouldn't a cruise be fun for our daughter's senior year ? So we got home after the walk, researched Disney Christmas cruise options and viola - Christmas shopping for 2019 is done. Can't wait to experience Christmas while sailing away !!

That IS a great present! Welcome aboard!

Sitting here in NY looking at the snow and day dreaming about the cruise
Yeah, this past weekend when we had windchill temps down to -20F, we watched several cruise videos to momentarily transport us to a different clime. I know this time of the year in the Bahamas it can be rainy and cooler, but I'm fairly certain it won't be freezing or below. pirate:

In other news, we're a mere 42 days away from booking our dining plans and excursions for the cruise. . .

Well, thanks to Disney's amazing IT system, we had no real chance to snag a Palo Brunch reservation. We literally stayed up until midnight (on a work day), and were online clicking away as the clock ticked to 0000:01. Wouldn't let us log in at first--maybe five minutes--then when we did, the screen just sat there, "grinding" away with that little color wheel. After several minutes of that nonsense and amid retries, we finally got in, got to the select availability page, and actually at one point selected 12:30. Of course, it wouldn't accept the request saying, "the system's administration isn't working right now, please try again later" (or some such wording). By the time we got back into the system (we kept getting the Death Wheel O' Color), around 12:20, no reservations were available at all. We'll keep checking back on the off chance of one opening up, but we aren't hopeful. We've decided that, in the end, it will save us $ and calories. We did manage to get our other two wish list items, Port Arrival Time and Remy's on Christmas Day. So, that was a win. Hey, we're 88 days and counting!

EDITED TO ADD: Literally, within 20 minutes of me posting the note above, my wife called to say she had just checked the website and saw an opening for Palo Brunch. Seeing as my internet speed was faster than hers, I jumped on and, sure enough, there was an 11 a.m. time. So, now we DID get everything we wanted. Wait. . .oh, dang! I sure wish I could win that $65M lottery jackpot; probably no chance to get that, though. :rolleyes1

So, to deal with the elephant in the corner (not necessarily Dumbo, but those ears are mighty big)...
Given this is a Christmas Cruise, is there still a Fish Extender gift exchange onboard this cruise? It is my first return to DCL since 2004, and our honeymoon cruise as well. It looked like something fun, but given the holiday, we could see how others weren't planning for this.

Good question. We haven't heard of any thus far, though obviously that doesn't mean there isn't one. ;)
