I love credit cards so much!

I'm for locking this thread and making a new one, I like I love credit cards 2019 or version 2, I'll still be following along whatever we name it. I think it is time to have some beginning posts with useful information in them, so when people find us they have a guide. Agree some of the specifics should be left for reddit.

We could have a little section like...

What We Do:
Discuss using credit card rewards programs to travel (blah blah)

What We Don't Do:
Discuss strategies for paying down credit card debt or balance transfers, etc. (I'm not going to opine on whether having CC debt is good or bad...just that it's not something we're experts on or interested in discussing here, lol)

lol!

I have a secret fear that one day the DIS will disappear and none of us will be able to find each other... :scared:
That actually happened on an old site for adoptive parents I frequented. The site was hosted by one woman and had a blog and forums, much like DIS only smaller. One day...poof. Gone. I guess the owner stopped paying the hosting fees and it was done. No warning or asking if anyone wanted to take over or whatever. Some of us had met IRL and exchanged addresses, email, etc so we had some contact. Eventually some FB groups were formed, but it’s not the same, although one of the only reasons I keep FB is to contact some of those old friends.

I don't think it would be the worst thing to make a comment that we don't recommend starting this hobby if you have credit card debt or can't pay your credit cards off in full every month, I think it is a good disclaimer...as any interest you pay negates the bonuses.

I'll just credit you with that comment ;) haha!! I kid... I totally agree, but I also know we have people in our midst attempting to play our game who are also carrying balances (mostly I think those folks are using 0% cards but some aren't). I would generally agree though and say that if worded softly enough, this comment makes a lot of sense!

NEW THREAD...?
So I reached out to Webmaster Doc to see if they would lock this thread if we created a new one. He said he'd be glad to handle that and told me to let him know when the new thread was created...so hmmmm should we do this?

I think we would name it "I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for details)" We did go round and round in circles the last time on a new name, and there was no consensus...so why change it. It works, we all found this place and new people find us too!

Then I would be happy to reserve the first few comments to include a link back to this thread, a brief summary of what we do, instructions on how to ask for advice, and a glossary. I would be happy to maintain those and certainly rely upon the suggestions of our group here on what should go in those comments. We would end this thread with a link to the new one also...

I also don't want to act like I'm some dictator here, just taking it upon myself to make this change. What do people think??

EDIT: If you want to do this...LIKE this comment. If you don't like it please respond and say why. Also, there is always the risk that due to having 70k comments and 3,500 pages that maybe they just ask to do it eventually anyways, lol!
I'm going to monitor how many likes this comment gets, and of course we'll all see if any posts in disagreement (which I am fine with that too BTW!!)... If the vast majority are saying let's do it...then maybe we do it tomorrow. So far I think it has 7 likes and nobody has said don't do it.

Completely agree, and hope I didn't come off harsh, as you have to do what is right for you. I know in real life I hesitate to talk about my churning with people who I know are having a difficult time managing their budget or credit cards or people I don't know very well. As this hobby is very tempting, who doesn't want to travel for free, but can lead to problems if not managed well.

Not harsh at all...however to some people in CC Debt, the mere suggestion that it’s a bad idea can be a trigger LOL

Yikes! That stinks! Of course, I guess we do have Reddit here for our group so most of us could reconnect that way.

this comes at a very unpopular opinion but would totally like to see us on a different platform for unrestricted chats... but thats just me though.

Yes, another Grand Tour fan here!! Started watching Top Gear back in college and have always loved it. It’s so rare that BBC reruns it anymore, but DH and I can easily waste a whole Sunday rewatching old episodes when it does come on.

And love all the scrapbooking talk. I am the least creative person, but I’d love to put together a scrapbook of our Disney trip for this year.

I love those guys, there are some episodes of Top Gear that make me laugh just as much now as the first time. I especially loved the one with Jeremy driving the 3 wheel car. I never watched it with the new hosts and didn't like the US version, it was awful. I also love that they put it out each week instead of all at once so I can't binge and have it to look forward to.

We've got good reads! I might have a book for you but I need to get into it more/through it before I suggest it.

@SouthFayetteFan I don't see the need for a new thread but if it does happen I will say, the sticky's really shouldn't have more than this is what it's for and this is who it's not for. I don't think it should have any instructions or a mention of dischurners. Should it be welcoming and not scare people away, absolutely though it'll still scare people away and those are probably the one's that should be scared away. But it also shouldn't just lay everything out there or link back to this thread. That's what dischurners is for.

Also I agree a bit with @Albort but I also don't trust people or google. This thread being linked on reddit isn't the only way for people to find it, when one of our own even found it via google. This is also coming from someone whose first and last name are common enough together you can't really find me on google except for one outdated alumnae group page I've asked them to delete. I should see if it's still there...

LOL - I know, and you voted for that the last time, LOL! Given that moving elsewhere is not a realistic option :P are you opposed to our new thread here?

That’s one of my favorite scenes :rotfl2: “oh no I’ve crashed it... I’ve crashed it almost immediately...” That and the scene from one of the later seasons where James and Jeremy are driving Peugeots around and Jeremy ends up setting his on fire with the heater. For some reason DH and I always end up in tears laughing watching that scene. I agree that the new hosts and US versions are terrible. I think Amazon has done a great job with the show and it seems like they continue to improve as they’ve gotten feedback from fans on what works and what doesn’t.

Yes! Almost forgot about that. @amalone1013 and I follow each other on there too, which I almost forgot about until it popped up on my feed that she was reading a book the other day. I’m in sort of a reading slump right now. Four books started, none of them finished... would love to hear your suggestion if it turns out to be something you like!

i sit with a couple of places, a lot of them have transitioned over to chat platforms... telegram, slack etc.
i tend to be a bit more conservative because on how public this forum can be... the thought that @mmmears found us via google is really scary to me, haha. still glad to see @mmmears find us though...

You don’t think we should link back to this original thread? Is a Glossary ok? (I do agree with everything you said basically)

Do you mind asking her where she sees these discounts? The ones I am looking at are through the TA site but 1) you can only use each type once per calendar year and 2) I don't see any way to set up any kind of alert. There is also a process for booking these that seems like it could be lengthy (and Disney has to 'approve'). My aunt is a TA for primarily cruises and gets a lot of specials sent to her for trying out new ships, super cheap and last min sailings, etc. I don't see any way to get anything like that for Disney so I'd be curious where your friend is getting the good deals. I think I am missing something :)

She is an Ear Marked Disney TA and there is a Disney TA website. She gets emails from Disney that only go out to the Disney TAs. She also is the owner of the agency but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

I'm in chapter 2 but it's about a female lawyer in Bombay in the early 1920's. So far it's good it's just taking a bit to get into it so I switched to an easy reader for a couple of days :)

If it says version 2.0 people would know it's the 2nd and honestly no one is going back to read early pages of this and if you do a search on the budget board it would come up I would think. I feel like it's been said a lot here and maybe it was more towards the people on r/churning that don't want to just map it out for someone that you do need to read/educate/learn and not be handed a roadmap. So why do that here and make it easier to google. To me that's what dischurners is for, linking stuff back to here, stuff no one wants discussed here because of google etc and the glossary could go there.

If it's not broke don't fix it just make a new thread with one post that says what it's about, which this one kinda sorta had considering why she started it and then it morphed into what it is now. But this isn't a hotel info/free dining/fp/ap info thread that should have that stuff.

@Albort I understand and some of the stuff I've posted as others have we've been as vague as possible so as to not get found for things we need an answer to. This is my generic message board name and not at all tied to my email or name because while I may have my photo, I don't want people to easily find me online. Disboards is the only mb I'm active on any more.
