Now see I have a very different experience living in MA and as an RN unlike @disneymagicgirl. First off I recommend a BSN because that’s what a lot of the top hospitals require now (I have mine). I’ve been a nurse 20 years and at the top children’s hospital
in the country for the past 12. I work part time but if I worked fulltime I’d make close to 200K/year. All my friends that are nurses are still working (and many the breadwinners) and have a variety of amazing different jobs. In the Pacu, OR, Er, home care, school, lactation specialist. There are so many avenues to go that it’s hard to not find something that works for you.
I work on a very sad unit. There is burnout. Sure there are long shifts. You have to earn your stripes. It’s not for the faint of heart. I work with kids that die on a regular basis. It’s not for everyone. It shapes your outlook on life and i never take a thing for granted. There is something so sacred that comes with meeting a complete stranger and helping them in there worst moments.

I guess it is different all over. We have a Nursing Open House we are going to in February at one of the colleges she was admitted to. What is a BSN compared to an RN?

My dd18 is going into nursing. It’s been recommended to her to get her BSN also. She is doing a RN program first.

The nurses I know are very well paid. I know one who takes ‘ask a nurse’ calls at home and makes 80k and that was years ago. She probably makes 90k now. Those who are in hospitals really make good money.

My dd is interested in l&d or pediatrics. Maybe surgical though she was told that is really stressful. Definitely specializing is the way to go.

Yep, and for sure. We’re doing our best to keep her grounded; to be grateful she has everything she needs, and to be thankful for anything more than that. Parenting is hard, and she’s our only so we can’t screw this one up.

It sounds like you are doing a good job reminding her how fortunate she is. It is possible to raise a kid who doesn’t act entitled but it takes work these days.

Four year degree vs an associates usually 3 year program. Where do you guys live?

Yes you can always get your RN associates and work and still get your BSN. In Boston the top hospitals will only higher BSNs now. But you can start elsewhere (for less money) and change once you have the degree and or experience. Surgical as in OR or post surgery? I do pediatrics i love it. Though I recommend starting in the adult world (like I did) for a broader knowledge base and then you really appreciate the size of the little ones!! Good for her!!!

We are in Minnesota. The colleges she is looking at are 4 year degrees so maybe they are BSN's instead of RN's.

I just looked on their website is shows BS in nursing. Is that what she wants?

It would be both!! So 4 year degree you graduate with a BSN. Then you need to sit for the boards to acquire your RN. So I am a BSN, RN, CPN. Last letters are certified pediatric nurse an exam I took to give myself more letters lol. Some community colleges have a three year associate degree program. They still become RNs it’s just a little tougher to get hired in certain areas. There are also LPNs but they seem to be fazing out.

I came here just to post that my 100K MR have posted from my Amex Plat. I don't know if I want to :yay: or  that I was able to make spend in only two months. I was shocked that they posted with the $550 in the figure. I thought that didn't count toward MSR.

Sooooo...onto the next!

I know my questions about next card, and downgrading are approximately 1,004,000 pages ago since I asked on Monday, but since is it my 2 year anniversary of my CSR app, does it fall off today, or after statement close? DH also has a CSR. I think I am going to downgrade to the CFU.

Am I at 4/24 or 5/24 or neither:
1/17: CSR
7/17: Disney Visa
3/18: IHG
7/18: CIP
11/18: Amex Plat

Writing all of that out kind of makes me :sad2:, but I know that I am comparing peanuts to lots of others.

I think most of our hospitals are only wanting BSN now too. She is somewhat interested in OR. But again, she was told it’s stressful so I think that turned her off a bit. She loves kids. Has always had a passion for kids so peds is a natural fit for her. She was a ‘sick kid’ herself and going through that made her want to help sick kids.

Thanks. Good to know. I think the Open House will go to will give her a lot more info and clarity on if this is something she wants to do. The only bad thing is that you take classes for 2 years and you don't even know until the end of your sophomore year if you get in to the Nursing Program. Lots more kids than available spots (which is so silly to me - seeing they always have a shortage of nurses).

Thanks for all the guidance  . I am applying for the Chase business card tonight and I want to get it right. I have an actual job as does my husband with a good household income. Then I have my ebay side business with the $25k gross. I don't have an EIN (although I should go ahead and get one) so will apply with SSN. Should I use: Household income, my job income, only my ebay income?

That’s great. I work with kids with newly diagnosed brain tumors and a few of the nurses are brain tumor survivors. They provide a ton of inspiration to the patient and families (and staff)!

A lot of programs are super competitive now. Plus expensive. But at least you come out with a career instead of your friends who have to be work at the GAP and pay even more to go to grad school

No I was talking about BOA’s new thing where you can pick your category for 3% each month. I’m getting a savings account with them and I see you can get an extra 10% if you redeem your rewards in an account.
Not sure on BOA but don’t see why not?

There will be a separate section for each. Put you business income where it asks and then combined house income for gross income. $25k!! Holy eBay business!!

Does anyone know or think that if I rent a stroller through Magic Strollers and pay for it with DH's CSR that travel insurance could possibly kick in for theft or damage? Insurance is $25 for the stroller through them.

And in doing research for my trip, I just discovered we are going to be there during Mardi Gras. I am a pretty seasoned WDW planner and never once considered Mardi Gras crowds. Some crowd calendars are showing moderate crowds and some are showing WORST-CROWDS-EVER-JUST-STAY-HOME crowd levels. Anyone been during Mardi Gras? Sorry, I know...so OT!

Use your household income and there will be a spot for business income. Don't forget to use your own name and not an Ebay name. Wow, what do you sell?
