Star Wars Strategy?

I’m probably totally jumping the gun here, but we just figured out we’re heading to Disney in August and want to have a great SWGE strategy in place before we go.

My hunch is that we’ll just do rope drop on the day we do Disneyland and head straight for SWGE, but am I overlooking something?

What are you guys thinking will be best, and based on the opening of other new theme park lands (e.g., Cars Land, Harry Potter, etc.), what night we expect for crowds at the end of Summer/park traffic patterns/etc.

Also, how early do you think we’ll have to get there in the morning? We usually shoot for 30-40 minutes before opening and it works great.

This will be an adults only trip and all of us are able bodied and fast walkers too, if that matters.

Thanks!!

I think it’s too early to know. Since you’ll have a couple months of it being open before you’ll go you can use all that knowledge to really set your game plan.
Biggest factor is we don’t know if they’re going to have any kind of tiered system for people to get into the land, like onsite guests first, or that kind of thing.
I’m going in September and I would also love to know but we just gotta wait.

I think the only thing you can plan this early on is to wait to find out about other peoples experience once it's opens. As of now it's pure speculation on how it will operate.

Another vote for "gotta wait and see."

It was fairly quick after Cars Land opened that someone had figured out the "wide right technique" and I have no doubt people will have advice as soon as it's been open a few days!

I would avoid going at rope drop. It will suck up so many people at park opening the rest of the park will be relatively empty. I don't think the lines will be that much different at rope drop than they are in the middle of the day.

I agree with the PPs. No way to know. Many have speculated that Disney may use MaxPass as a way to control guest access to SWGE and the rides. As I have related on the other recent SW thread, I was at WDW on the opening day of Pandora and they had an awesome strategy for handling guest access. And they executed it perfectly IMO. I hope and expect they apply those strategies to SWGE.

Just out of curiosity, what was the strategy?

Of course as you guessed we'll just have to wait and see. Assuming they don't send us any curve balls, I would suggest grabbing a FP for one of the Star Wars rides each morning very first thing. Next day, do the other ride. If successful, you'll at least get to ride once and you can still jump in the standby line if you feel like it. I expect the shops and walkways will be packed all day anyway, so I would just go check it out whenever you feel you have the patience for it. I don't recall if it has been announced if the restaurant will take reservations, but be sure to keep an eye on that and be ready if you want one - I suspect they'll be snatched up fast. We are not planning a trip for quite some time after it opens, but when we do eventually go I'm generally prepared for just doing one Star Wars thing per day, to keep the stress down and hopefully keep us form standing in hours-long lines all day.

Of course all that is assuming they don't switch things up, which they very well could do (like restricting access at different times of day, saving FP for hotel guests, who knows). I trust the people here to go through the arduous process of trial and error and come up with the best possible strategy and share it with all of us.

If they have any brains at all, and I believe they do but am not as confident as I used to be (at least at DLR...WDW seems to be under good control) they will definitely restrict access to SWGE. They will form queues for SWGE outside the land - probably in the BTM Trail area. They will have one way in and two ways out. The ways out will be one way traffic only.

They will use MaxPass to restrict access. And only give out MP to either ROTR or MFSR (not both on same day) and only one MP per day to SWGE.

They will form lines for SWGE on Main Street in the morning (sort of like what they did for GOTG in HollywoodLand area). With ropes monitored by Cast Members, and many, many signs directing people where to go. Those folks will be let in slowly to BTM Trail area and queue there, and then into SWGE in small bits. All controlled with ropes and CMs and signs. :thumbsup2

Wow - HydroGuy have they not offered you a job yet?

Your prediction sounds so organized and fair! I'd almost think all the people waiting to get into SWGE would make the rest of the park less busy but I'm likely dreaming!

Best: Wait 2-3 years before event attempting to go to Galaxy's Edge.

Reality: Get there about an hour before park opening/early entry, have Maxpass already added to your tickets, get a FP for one of the rides the second your pass is scanned for entry. Go straight to Galaxy's Edge, do not pass go, do not collect $200, enjoy and then get out of there quickly. If it is Magic Morning/Early Entry and you have it, do the exact same, except stand outside Galaxy's Edge or as close as you can get, waiting to get in. If you don't have early entry, don't go to Disneyland on a day that it has early entry.

While this would make sense, the restrictions on MaxPass are highly unlikely, as you would get too many complaints. Additionally, they won't limit access to only those with Maxpass. There will also be a couple of signs, but not many. Sadly this is the reality that will be faced.

Yep, you're totally jumping the gun but it's hard not to want to speculate and wonder how it will work at this point isn't it :rolleyes1

But, with you not going till August you will know by then (as a member of these very helpful boards) exactly what your strategy will need to be.
We are going to be there on Monday 8th July, so very likely 2 weeks after it opens (maybe longer but that's a wait and see)
I have booked onsite (DVC at GCH) and I've already bought my tickets direct through Disney with the MP already included. I didn't want to deal with possible issues entering through Harbor side.
I'm hoping that there will be some benefit staying onsite re: SW:GE, maybe an early entry for hotel guests, but it's just a wait and see.
I'll keep an eye on here and make a plan before we go based on other people's experiences once it opens.
We are not really Star Wars fans (not at all actually) so I'm not too fussed about it. I would go in and see it because we won't be back for a few years but it will very much depend on how it's going - we're not into long waits so we'll have to see how it plays out. If we can see it without lining up for 3 - 6 hours we probably will otherwise I'm in the 'give it a miss crowd' : )

WDW was able to do it for Pandora on opening weekend. Are we saying WDW can do it and DLR is just not up to the task??? :rolleyes1

Really, it is only based on what I observed at WDW when they opened Pandora. It was brilliant frankly. Not my idea by WDW's.
