Wifi quality in the Disney resorts

We'll be staying at AOA and the Polynesian. Anyone know just how strong the wifi is at these resorts? Is it possible to download or upload videos?

I've never had an issue with losing my wifi signal at either of those resorts, but I'm not certain about downloading/uploading.

Ive never lost the wifi signal at our resort or in the parks, but Ive had the data slow down to an unusable level before. But at other times its been reasonably speedy. Probably just depends on network load and number of people connected at the time.

I've had good luck in my room at Yacht Club working (but never tried downloading) but had a terrible connection when trying to work and eat at Crew's Cup Lounge.

I think it depends - when we are there in the late morning/early afternoon, I have not had a problem, BUT in the evenings when people are back from their daily activities, the WiFi and my data starts to slow down since it’s getting bogged down wi5 more people accessing it.

At Old Key West Resort I did a speedcheck. I got between 4 and 5 Mb/S download and around 1 Mb/S upload. The results in the parks are way better. Around 20 down and 5 up.

Currently is depends on how many other guests are competing for the limited network bandwidth at most resorts with the most slowdown during the hours guests are in their rooms using the Wi-Fi. However there is good news rolling out across the resorts as Disney has announced resort wide upgrades to the Wi-Fi experience for guests.

POFQ was just upgraded as part of the recent resort refresh. The Wi-Fi Access Points are now connected via fiber optic connections to provide a much improved guest experience resort wide.

Didn’t they just upgrade the WiFi in the resorts? Are these reports of the improved WiFi or does it suck as bad as the old WiFi? I am hoping it is better now since next summer my kid may have to do a bit of online class work.

Yeah, they've been upgrading the wifi this year. At least some resorts are complete, but I'm not sure about all of them.

I haven’t stayed at the AoA ever or the Poly in a few years, but I never had an issue staying on the WiFi on my phone there. My most recent visit to the world (last week) I found that my phone stayed 100% connected to the WiFi basically the entire time I was on property, save the buses. However, I tried to do a few things for work on my laptop (mostly downloading fairly large files) and really struggled in room at the Coronado and POR. I was finally able to do it in the lobby of the POR! So I wouldn’t count on being able to download things everywhere/every time you want to, but if you’re struggling definitely try a relocation.

My experience was in the Contemporary but the wifi there in Sept 2017 was terrible. I was downloading my memory maker pics to my phone thinking that I was connected to the wifi but apparently it had dropped and I didn't notice... that was the first and only time I've ever gone over my data limit! I would definitely warn you to be careful, mine would show full strength and then drop.

We were at the Boardwalk in September - the wifi was mostly fine. It would be slow in the morning and right after dinner time which I attributed to more guests in their room using their devices. I only streamed or read online content, I didn't download or upload any big files.

The wifi has definitely improved over the past couple of years. I was just there in October and had no problem downloading or streaming. I use both amazon and Netflix.

Always have a backup plan... for me that's the mobile hotspot from my phone. I came back last week from a trip at SSR where the wifi was decent in the room, but poor/one bar at the Paddock Pool. Used my hotspot to complete my work.

Here now at BWV and the WiFi is horrendous... worst i’ve had at any resort. Everything else is great though.

So, we are back from our trip, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by Wifi quality at the resorts. AOA and Poly Wifi were great. Even faster than back home. But the Wifi in the parks was left to be desirable. I think that AK was the worst of them all. It was patchy, and non-reliant, to say the least.

We are just back from All Star Movies. Wifi was surprisingly great! We were able to watch lots of Netflix movies in the evenings while our son was either watching the big TV or asleep. Worked great! DH used the wifi at Epcot while in the Soarin que since he had no phone signal and he said it was "decent".
