I Better Vote Tomorrow...

What state is this? I feel like a state that has managed to eradicate homelessness and food insecurity should be really huge news. I'm sure lots of other states could learn a lot from them.
No we still have plenty of meth heads roaming around. Homeless by choice. Plenty of jobs if your willing to work and are employable. If you have track marks up and down your arm your probably not getting hired.

There are a tremendous number of homeless NOT by choice in every state, to think otherwise is naive.
There are tremendous amount that are homeless due to drugs, alcoholism, mental illness and poor life choices to think otherwise is naive. I work in an inner city hospital I’m very aware of the homeless issues. If you live in a city where working people are living on the streets that’s pretty sad, but I don’t think that’s the norm.
Not sure what any of this has to do with voting.

What exactly do you do except hang out on message boards and insult people. Your more then welcome to pm me if you want to have a rational discussion. At Least I don’t make personal attacks just because I disagree with someone on a subject.

Whoa!!! Where did that come from? That was neither an insult, nor a personal attack. It was not a judgement at all, just an observation that applies to all of us, including me.

I disagree I think you can tell very little about a person from what they post. Other then their views on a certain subject you don’t know the person. People do love to make assumptions on this board. Words like ignorant seemed to get thrown around a lot.

A large percentage of Americans incorrectly blame the homeless for their condition.

Could the DIS handle two posters with opposing views may both be right to a degree? Zero sum game.

I think you need to educate yourself on what taking away a right means.
If they can re-register to vote then they are allowed to vote which means their rights are still there.
But if that is what your feelings tell you, no facts are going to change your opinion.

A lot of people who are taken off the rolls are not aware of it until they actually show up to vote. If you live in a state without same day voter registration, that's obviously a problem. Even if there is same day, the hoops you have to jump through aren't something most people have time for.

That’s cool...you asked a question about how to make voting easier stating some things that were untrue, I answered with how it could be easier, and you change the argument to states rights. You clearly weren’t interesting in hearing how it could be easier, and maybe you aren’t interested in making it easier for certain groups? FYI-voting isn’t just for “able bodied people” either.

I’m in a state with early voting and have transportation and plentiful polls so I’m all good.

State's rights....the rationale for some pretty bad things that have happened in this country. I'm always shaking my head at people who resort to it.

So you've gotten to know every homeless person to decide they made that choice? BTW while starting a drug is a choice; being an addict is not.

You just make overall generalizations on people you don't understand or don't want to understand. When people explain things that don't support your world view, you write it off as a silly because YOU don't get it.

Anyone whose read throughout their lives develops a critical eye and notices when people defend the indefensible and bitterly judge people.

What do you do to help the homeless?

What do you do to help the homeless?

Soup kitchen once a month, treat homeless people as human beings when I'm working (nurse), donations to various local services who serve those people in need, health care clinic volunteer when they are sponsored.

Most importantly -- whether I'm working or just going about my day, I don't mistreat these people or look down my nose at them. I don't assume they are homeless by choice or too lazy to get a job. I don't get angry with them if they have a phone, clothes or anything I might not think they deserve. I know something is not going right in their life and hope they pull through and get the services they need.

What makes you think I don’t treat them with respect and as human beings. I would obviously get fired if I didn’t. I also treat people on the disboards with respect. I don’t call them ignorant or judgemental because my views are different then theirs. Something you should consider. You say your not judgemental but you sure don’t have a problem judging people on here.

So you treat them with respect at work (and I'm willing to believe that). But then you trash them on message boards, in your thoughts and likely in your voting too. So you don't really HAVE respect for them.

I did not trash them I said many of them are drug addicts or mentally ill which is true and I think you know that. I can’t remember ever voting on anything that had anything to do with homeless people. It’s not something I’ve seen on the ballot. I’m not sure how the way vote I is any indication of how I treat people. Making an assumption about someone based on how you perceive them to vote or their political iview is in itself being judgemental.
