I am the cook in our house. No one else likes it so I pretty much cook every night for a family of five. Running out of ideas lately. What are some of your family favorites?

Lemon chicken and rice- just chicken breasts and buttered rice with lemon squirted over the top
Ham and buttered noodles- cubed ham mixed with buttered egg noodles
Spaghetti with roasted broccoli, garlic, and olive oil (good cold too)

It is just DH and me now. We like spaghetti, chili, fish, chicken cooked a variety of ways. It is a hard job coming up with ideas. I don't know how old your kids are but I would take suggestions and make a list to chose from.

Roast.
Homemade pizza.
Turkey legs. We make mashed potatoes and gravy. Just like thanksgiving!
Stuffed and baked whole chicken.
Grilled pork chops.
Beef stew.

Some favorites include:
  • spaghetti (have a very easy - almost cheating sauce recipe)
  • roasts
  • pork chop casserole
  • polish sausage w/ potatoes and sauerkraut
  • pulled pork or pulled chicken
  • swedish meatballs - served w/ noodles
  • chicken ala marsala w/ cheese - served with pasta
Other things are grilled burgers or brats, grilled pork chops (with teriyaki sauce), steak, and other meats with a vegetable.

lassagna
spaghetti
whole roasted chicken with potatoes and carrots, and even better, the homemade soup stock we make from boiling all the leftovers together the next day
grilled ham and cheese sandwiches with salad or soup
breakfast for dinner (either pancakes and sausage, or egg "mcmuffins" with ham or bacon)

We live in a suburb of a big city and have pretty much anything we want readily available to us, so we often do the "meal deals" from local mom and pop places, or have our grocery store grill us some burgers, chicken, fish, or whatever else we want, or have take-out delivered. $1.00 Taco Tuesdays are awesome - we have this tiny little place in our town that makes Mayan Mexican food and they sell a PBJ taco that is out of this world!

We use Costco a lot too....my kids love their trays of mac and cheese, ravioli lassagna, and I'd honestly rather pay $4.99 for their ready-made rotisserie chicken than make my own. it's cheaper and easier!

I do lots of easy pastas with fresh herbs, frozen seafood (I know it could be better), veggies and some olive oil, white wine. I don't cook with lots of recipes unless it's a dish I want to perfect, like when I wanted to learn to make the best chicken noodle soup, or the best empanadas; I just worked recipes until I got it the exact right way. Of course the kids often want either something very simple, like Kraft Mac and Cheese, or something very complex, but they'll be happy with my pastas or soups, so that's a common go to.

Pot roast
Chicken & dumplings
Chili and cornbread
Meatloaf and mashed potatoes
Shrimp and grits
Baked breaded chicken breasts with rice pilaf
Pork roast and sweet potatoes
Spaghetti and meatballs
Various soups
Baked turkey tacos
Salisbury steak and noodles
Baked salmon

I just add a salad and veg to each entree. If you asked in summer, the list would be totally different!

whole roasted chicken with potatoes and carrots, and even better, the homemade soup stock we make from boiling all the leftovers together the next day

That's a frequent meal for me and I make my chicken soup the same. It's so easy (although it takes time) and so flipping good!

Our menu this week has been the following:

Saturday - lasagna & tossed salad
Sunday - potato & ham soup
Monday - chicken & waffles (DH cooked... he even candied some pecans & made a bourbon-maple syrup to go w/ the waffles & fried chicken)
Tuesday - tacos
Wednesday - chicken pot pie & fresh fruit
Thursday - chicken & pasta w/ a choice of either marinara or alfredo sauce & w/ a cucumber & tomato "salad"
Friday - pizza

On Mexican night (usually Tuesdays), we'll alternate w/ tacos, taquitos, & chicken tortilla soup.

On pasta night, I'll sometimes do a baked chicken spaghetti. The kids also really like DH's baked goulash.

2 of the 3 kids like Sloppy Joes.

Another meal that comes up frequently in our rotation is pork chops w/ baked sweet potatoes & green beans.

We'll do beef & pork roasts in the crock pot too. When we do a pork roast, many times we'll shred the meat & add BBQ sauce & serve it on Hawaiian rolls for BBQ pork sliders & have those w/ French fries, vinegar slaw, & baked beans.

Chili is also popular this time of year - except 1 kid doesn't like chili (the same kid who doesn't like Sloppy Joes, lasagna, soup, & chicken pot pie).

DD's 2 favorite meals are DH's potato soup & DH's jambalaya.

Older DS's favorite meal is tacos.

Younger DS's favorite meal is chicken tenders & macaroni & cheese. He also loves turkey sandwiches.

Butter chicken, dal, korean bbq, baked ziti, salmon cakes, green chicken chili, gumbo

Kids like m&c, spaghetti, make your own tacos, grilled cheese, and tomato soup probably the best. One of them likes chili.
Frequently we are all eating something different due to picky eaters, various diets (vegetarian vs. non) and just having lots of leftovers in the fridge to reheat.
And sometimes if I've had a big lunch, all I'll really want is a piece of fruit or two, a handful of almonds, and maybe a couple of cheese & crackers.

Fried chicken or pork chops, rice and gravy and cole slaw or a salad

Chicken and dumplings

Red beans with sausage and rice and corn bread

White Limas with ham and rice and corn bread

My kids get annoyed if a meal is in the rotation more than twice a month, so there is a lot more. I make salad a lot with homemade dressing, roasted vegetables like broccoli, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, squash, zoodles, puréed sweet potatoes...

Beans an cornbread cook ham in with the beans
