Detheming of resorts? (a word?)

I got my $130 credit. It was a quick swiff every couple of days. I didn't mind at all. :)
Part of the fun of a vacation to me is not having to clean or cook for as long as we're away. No swiffer for us. And no opting out of housekeeping either.

We stayed in a POFQ refurbed room this summer. I hated all the brown and beige. And I hated the bare floor.

Oh, is it loud? I don't have one, so I have no idea. I want one though.
I guess you might trip security if/when they enter.

It's pretty loud on our wood floors. We have two cats and we think it's amazing! It's expensive, but well worth it in our opinion. :)

I wouldn't bring our roomba, but I will keep in mind not to wear white socks!

This one blows my mind, Coronado Springs:

I actually like the new rooms and décor much better than the old. The wallpaper and bedspreads were just hideous - sorry JMHO and we waited for the rooms to be refurbed in most of the deluxes, ie: GF, BWI, Poly and CR before ever staying in any of them.

I meant blows my mind as in "I can't believe anyone would prefer the old rooms to the new rooms". :)

I'm with you, refurbs all the way! And yes, we have passed on hotels due to bedspreads.

So is the entire room at POFQ done in the vinyl fake wood? At least in the BWV studio reno they limited it to the bathroom vanity, closet and kitchenette and the rest of the room has carpet, tile in the shower/tile area. I noticed the vinyl stuff has ridges throughout. Doesn’t seem to holding up too well. Maybe already ready for another redo.

So, I don't think anyone thinks the "before" photos with the tacky bedspreads and the overdone curtains are "better". Those rooms were completely outdated and ready for a refresh. It just seems that when they refreshed them, they missed an opportunity to make them fabulous and "Disney" without necessarily using tacky bedspreads or overdone curtains. Like @mom2rtk we stayed at the Hotel Disneyland and absolutely loved our fireworks bed frames. And that is completely compatible with clean duvets and floors. It just seems that the light fixtures, bed, furniture, prints, etc., could be anywhere.

Entire room. I hated walking around on it. And the room just looks unfinished to me. Bed runners would make a huge difference.

I will have to respectfully disagree. I have read countless posts on this board that Disney removed all the theming from the rooms after refurbishments - exact words. My very long, page after page point is that they didn't - either there was never a theme to begin with or it's still there, but not to everyone's design tastes.

Perhaps people may not like the new decor choices, but to say they removed theming is just plain wrong!!! If I had a gavel I'd bang it!!!:mad::mad:
(just kidding, I'm not really angry. I felt this was all building into some kind of crescendo and I didn't want to let anyone down)

Feel free to let this discussion drive off into the sunset. :car:

Perhaps an area rug would be good there.
It definitely needs something. But they probably consider a rug a tripping hazard. The one in the Royal room above is fake, designed into the floor carpet.

I like the refresh, especially the laminate floors. Carpeting holds dirt and breeds mold. The changes have certainly reduced the chance of spreading bed bugs as well. They could use a touch or two of Disney, but the before rooms were over the top gaudy imo

I loved the old Disney touches in the lighting fixtures, in the pictures, in the wallpaper (sorry, I always have liked wallpaper - it wasn't all floral, you know). The lamps in particular come to my mind as especially well done in the past. I also like carpet better than hard floors, but agree that wood/vinyl are easier to keep clean. I will bring my swiffer on future visits. I do miss the runners on the beds, both for the colour/aesthetics and as a place to put packages or feet (when lying down on the bed) so that they weren't on the linens that I would later be sleeping in.

And I really think that the old CSR rooms in particular were gorgeous with the dark wood and lovely colours. Bottom line, IMO: The new decor is plainer and less distinctively 'disney', but it is still tasteful and lovely while establishing a more modern appeal.

First post in this thread, but my thoughts on detheming: I like to compare Walt Disney World to Las Vegas.

By the end of the 90s, Vegas was all about themed hotels. Think about it... there was/is Sahara, Luxor, Excalibur, Paris, Aladdin, Venetian, Treasure Island, NYNY, etc.. The rage was having themed hotels that would be an attraction in and of itself. It was also more family friendly back then.
Fast forward 20 years, and themed hotels are no longer popular. Most are still around, but either the rooms have been completely dethemed or the hotels themselves rethemed. Imperial Palace to Linq, Sahara to SLS, Aladdin to PH, MonteCarlo to Park MGM. The demand now is for generic luxury. Aria, Bellagio, Wynn, Mandalay Bay. Some themes continue to stand strong, like Caesars and Venetian, Mirage.

I see the same thing happening (but to a lesser degree) at WDW. The resorts will all continue to be themed to give each its own identity, but the rooms themselves are being toned down and to more generic designs. WDW will naturally forever be family friendly compared to Vegas but it's also costing more than ever before. If I'm spending a lot of money on a WDW hotel room and staying for a week, at the end of the day I'd like to retire in a generic nice room with subtle theming. Additionally, what if searching for a room and the only resort left is a theme that I'm not particularly fond of? By lessening the theme inside rooms it allows it to be more versatile.
