Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE RESORTS Information & Questions

You'll do just fine. Breathe slowly. :)
Funny thing is that I am a high school counselor. I wish I could follow the same advice that I give to my students!!!!!! It's just such a nasty day and I can see that our plane is already going to be delayed b/c the plane coming in is over an hour late (and hasn't even taken off yet). OK - no need to clog your messages!

Another psa:

1. The Spring Pool is no longer "hot." I've asked three ppl, one at the desk, and 2 pool attendants, nobody has any idea why it would be warmer than any of the other pools. When we were here in 2016, the spring pool was HOT, every day.

2. The sandwiches at Fuel, are excellent. Real meat, none of that Subway stuff. I'd almost say they are a bargain.

They will heat up the sandwiches for you too. It was enough for DH and I to share on arrival day after an early ish flight.

That's probably a good thing warm water tends to allow Bactria to grow faster, needing more chemicals to keep in check. Warm areas like Florida might actually use chilling equipment to keep the temp down in the heat of the sun.

I recently returned from a points stay at the Swan, which was booked at the old points value; I had no issues, whatsoever.
Viewing an upcoming points booking at the Dolphin, that was reserved under the old points value, I'm seeing two unusual notices. The first one states:

So, if anyone has had problems linking to MDE, it could be that a revised conf. number needs to be used.

The other notice states:

When clicking on the link to order a reward cert for the reservation, it shows the current points value, not the former value, under which the reservation was made. Could there be a relationship to your problem?

Have you viewed your reservation under your Marriott account?
I see the same notices on my 2019 booking which was booked before the merger. Do I have to click on that reward certificate link or is my reservation all set as booked? My original confirmation number is already linked to MDE. Do I need to change it before my FP+ window opens?

I would not click on anything, for fear that the system would think you are making/changing your reservation, and possibly calculating the points as if first booking today.

Does the Swan offer the bounce back deal? I know I want to go in the summer so I would take advantage of the offer when I go next week

Ok. Thanks. I won't touch that link. Hopefully there will be no issues with the confirmation number change and MDE.

Trying to help out with a room recommendation:
If you want something at the Dolphin, close to the pools, close to Picabu, and close to the bus stop, we just stayed in 1169, and we loved it. The bathroom situation is a little tight, but perhaps it's the same in all of the Dolphin rooms. At Swan, the bathroom was much more spacious - two sinks - ine INSIDE the bathroom, one outside. In 1169 at Dolphin, there was only one sink area, outside of the bathroom. The bathroom only had a toilet and a shower stall, and it was pretty tight, but OK.

So, this room was down a short hallway between Picabu and the fitness room. We had a sliding door that opened to a table and chairs that was a few steps from the walkway between the pond with the swan boats, and the hotel. So, we faced the Swan boats, and could walk right out of the room to the walkway to the pool, but also, there was a short path right next to the basketball court that led right up to the bus stop. So if we were hitting the pool, we could just step outside of the sliding door, but if we were hitting the bust stop, we could walk down the hallway, and exit the door next to the fitness room. I'd say there were probably about 10 rooms down this hallway. I think someone posted a pic in this thread, in a very nearby room. I will as well a lil later.

Ok, freaking out. We booked Dolphin on Starwood points last August for our trip in 2 days. We just got a Marriott email that we have insufficient points! I will obviously call ASAP but can’t right now. Anyone with this experience?

The issue has to do with the award certificate and the fact that when the new system changeover happened mid October, one certificate was not transferred over. We have two reservations, the other is fine. I am currently on a one hour 55 minute phone call and counting and they are turning this into what they call a LD1 urgent case. They have no record whatsoever of the 44,000 points that we used from Starwood. I have all the confirmation emails so I had to forward those. Really making me mad. I’m currently missing bedtime for my two kids while dealing with this. What a mess! They assured me our reservation is not in jeopardy and worst case scensrio is we have to pay cash and then figure it out after. Great, more phone calls. Ugh!.

We stayed at Dolphin last week, and got an email from Marriott the day before saying we had insufficient points for our reservation. I booked Dolphin with SPG points in February, before it increased in category. But I used the full amount at the time of booking - 66k SPG points total.

The short version is, I was on a 3+ hour phone call the night before our trip listening to a Marriott representative calling me a liar. For some reason, even though I booked the reservation under my SPG account, it had been transferred to DW's Marriott account, so my SPG points reservation had been wiped out. And DW didn't have enough points. Luckily, I saved the original email at the time of booking. I had also combined my Marriott and SPG accounts, so I was able to show the history of my 66k points going away on the same date as my booking email. Finally, I sent a screenshot of my previous SPG number linked on my Marriott account, since that was also in the booking email (inexplicably, the Marriott rep was not able to see my previous SPG number).

I tend to be a very patient person with a long fuse, and I understand IT issues happen, but when the rep refused to believe I had booked the reservation in full, I lost my cool. I was screaming into the phone because I was so incredulous that this was even happening, on the day before check-in, no less, and how poorly the rep handled the situation.

In the end, after I sent the proof and screenshots, a supervisor came on the line to apologize and give me 15k Marriott points extra, and added a note for the hotel to give us an upgrade, if available. She tried to explain that there were issues with the merger that caused this, but after 3 hours on the phone being insulted I had enough and cut her off. Told her I didn't care and their merger issues were not my problem, and there was no excuse for this happening or the prior rep's rudeness.

I hope your issue gets resolved without any problems. I have been totally soured on Marriott after this. Dolphin wasn't good enough to make up for this headache, so never again.

Any insight on removing a canceled Swan/Dolphin reservation from showing up in MDE?
I linked a Swan stay but then canceled the stay a couple weeks ago. It still shows in MDE
It's not a huge issue of course, other than it clutters my MDE but I'd love to get rid of it if possible, as long as it doesn't take a phone call. It doesn't bother me enough to deal with calling them

I've had the same issue, ever since the merger completed. At first, I thought that I forgot to cancel a Swan reservation, so I double-checked on Marriott's site; that confirmed the cancellation(s). So, now I just ignore it.

I figure that it's not nearly as bad as MDE not recognizing a Swan/Dolphin booking, thus not enabling booking ADRs and FPs at the appropriate time.

My cancelled Swan reservations are no longer listed in MDE, but neither are some previously-listed and still valid Swan reservations. :headache:

Logging back in, I was just able to successfully re-link some deleted Swan bookings. Other confirmations come up with error message, though previously linked, before removed.

Update: All of the reservations that I just added back are now missing again!

Returned this past Sunday from 4 nights at the Dolphin, 5 nights at the Swan. I think for me the Swan is a better fit. The bathroom at the Dolphin was so small, about Disney Value resort sized. The bathroom at the Swan is much bigger. I also like that the Swan has 2 sinks over the 1 at the Dolphin. But again the bathroom at the Dolphin was so tiny there was no place they could have put a sink.

I also felt like I needed a sherpa to get around at the Dolphin. It was so confusing! So many different elevators. I also think the fact that our room was over 100 steps down a single hallway once you exited the elevator didn't help. I counted one morning, because I knew it was a long hallway and was curious.

Both resorts did upgrade me to a balcony room, I think because I had a few issues last year, and was in touch with someone in guest services. I really enjoyed having a balcony, so if getting me hooked was also part of the plan it worked! So nice to step outside and check the weather. And to kick up my feet and read for a while.

We ate at Picabu a few times. The only bad meal was the family style fried chicken. It was very rubbery. But the nachos and tacos were both great. And why did no one mention how awesome the malts at The Fountain are? Had dinner there one night and went back another time just to have another malt. Yum!!!!!!!
