Mickey's Halloween Party and Halloween Time Superthread 2018!!

Every year we go back and forth over attending the 10/31 MHP, but these reports are making me think we'll stick with our usual dates earlier in the month. If we visit the parks on Halloween, I think we'll do a regular park day and skip the party.

I went to the party on the 23rd-yep it was packed. But I was one of the dummies who camped out for fireworks for 3 hours-basically the sole reason I went to the party. But I did notice how packed it was moving from land to land after the fireworks. I stayed until midnight taking pictures and there were a good amount of people still in the parks when I left huddled on MS. I got stuck over by ROA when the Cadaver Dans came out at 10 between those crowds and the immense treat lines over there. But I was able to make my way back over to IASM to see the second parade.

I was hoping to only have to sit in a spot for about 2 hours for fireworks, just casually casing the area in front of the castle, hoping no one would put any blankets down too early, no such luck. A huge party of about 8 adults and 10 kids plopped down 4 blankets before I could even blink. Fortunately, they were very nice and let me squeeze in amongst them so I could set up to take pictures unobstructed. It was probably a good hour before anyone else sat behind them, so I think might have been an anomaly on how early peeps camp out-maybe. They had a good game plan and a ton of snacks, some would stay while others took the kids to the treat lines, I even held down their fort for a while when most of them decided to go get some ice cream right before the parade. All very cordial, I was actually surprised that no one tried to slip into a spot last minute up front. Those that did fill in behind them gave everyone plenty of space.

Friday the 26th was brutal at DCA when the party started at DL. I met my DD for dinner at Lamplight, we actually got a table upstairs in like 20 minutes to my surprise. They were busy though, we got our food before our drinks. The potato skins are legit as was the crab and tuna roll. At 7 pm, 90 minute standby for Indiecoaster and 140 for Guardians, yikes. And, wait for it, 45 minutes for Ariel. We walked around checking out the decorations, got a pumpkin churro, not that great, then headed over to the Grand to hit DTD around 9.

What is that a picture of? Our party was canceled because of rain so we didn’t get to see anything. Is that part of the fireworks?

This is part of the Halloween Parade. I remember my first party in 2010 and there were maybe half a dozen floats, there are maybe 20 now and some quite elaborate.

Ya they were only giving 3 pieces each. I usually fill up the Halloween tote I buy from DL but only the bottom was filled. Dont get me wrong I did have fun but it just wasnt the same experience I usually experience. Lines for everything were long everywhere for everything (treat trails, character meets, just everything). We went to CDL during the day and there were a lot less people but DL during the party was insane. I'll stick to the 3rd weekend in October going forward as I know what to expect even with Utah schools out for break was much less people than Halloween night.

The first party my Son and I went to in 2010, they had a lot of extra candy carts as people exited the parks. I filled an entire backpack with candy, almost 20 pounds. As with everything else, just more people now and less goods to spread around.

Hard to tell, but middle of that pile is past the half way mark on that water bottle.

I don't think Ill ever do late in October ever again. Its so disheartening that all of the Fall stuff was gone and sold out. I did however enjoy the Blue Bayou Halloween Party Dinner package, that was worth the online scramble for reservations when they opened up.

I went on Halloween night. It was crowded. The best thing, for me was the parade. It was new to me. We had great seats. The candy was also great. Lots of good candy. Only one bag of carrot sticks :P

Worst part was my big plan to watch the fireworks by following the parade then cutting off to the castle, did not work. They crowd controlled us right into Frontierland. Where I did have a nice photo session with a Photo Pass CM with the fog in the background.

The only character we got our pictures with was Pooh and Tigger because the lines were so long.

I'm curious, can you explain what do you mean by "they crowd controlled" you right into Frontierland?

I’m going to guess they roped off the area with the crossing by Tomorrowland and forced people to cross the hub. They were kind of doing this at the party I went to on the 26th but all we had to do was wait in that walkway 30 seconds after the parade passed and we were able to go under the rope and claim spots for fireworks.

They kept moving us. They said if I wanted to stop, I had to be behind The White Rope but that was already packed. The area where I was was kept moving I couldn't just turn and stop there to watch, which was my plan.

Yes, we've found that for watching fireworks in front of the castle, it's best to watch the parade from near that area, too. The castle and Hub area fills so quickly after the parade, you really have to jump right in to get your spots before CMs cut off access up front.

My suggestion or at least what we did was to make sure we were in Tomorrowland before the parade started and we walked over to the cross point right as the parade was finishing passing and that allowed us to get spots right behind the rope of the crossing that is at that point in the hub. We then watched the second parade from town square with a curb spot we sat down at about 5 minutes before the Headless Horseman did his walk up Main Street. I also went to a Friday night party which I think that hour shift in time helps immensely with crowds etc.

Interesting. I didn't follow the parade this year, but in the previous year they allowed guests to follow the parade all the way from the Alice bathrooms area, past the castle, and down to Main Street without being forced to head to Frontierland.

Sorry, I guess I am not explaining myself well.

I was near the Alice bathrooms. Followed the parade and I decided to turn right so I could be in front of the castle.

Yes, I could have continued to follow the parade down Main St. they were doing that too. If I had done that, I might have had a chance of seeing the fireworks. But then all the trees would be blocking my view.

I also noticed on Halloween night they didn't have quite a few treat trails that they had the prior years I went. Maybe because they were expecting a larger crowd?? Who knows but I'll just stick to the weekend I usually go from now on as I know what to expect and had a better time. Also arriving the last day of Halloween time was kind of sad for me as all Halloween decor was removed the next day so, I didn't get to enjoy it casually as I always do. To me Halloween time is my favorite time of year at Disney. I like it more than Christmas time believe it or not and Christmas is my favorite Holiday.

Did my first Halloween Party at DL this year and it was just a gigantic waste of money. I did it on 10/31 so I read now a lot of your reports saying that there were a lot of elements missing but for $130, there should be NOTHING missing.

Waited a whole hour for Cadaver Dans to come out. Never happened. Didn't see that many special characters or villains around. Even the atmosphere was about the same. I walked into the park and was like... what's the difference? They had the same 4 or 5 songs on loop. Not a candy person but trust me... I could buy plenty of my own candy for $100+ so that never comes into play for me as being part of the value.

The parade was short but nice. The fireworks were decent... never saw Zero fly over which was actually the part I was most excited about seeing?

After spending 2 full days in the parks enjoying Halloweentime, Mickey's Halloween Party was a total bust. Surprised that they could do such a decent job on the regular seasonal event but the actual party was a waste of time and money. Should've done something else for Halloween and simply added another day on to my 3-day park hopper for $20.

I wanted to buy some Halloween merch and it was slim pickin's. As in one of two items were left. NEAR HALLOWEEN?

They give you a bag of candy? Was it a worthwhile experience at BB?

That's because they didn't do a full on "parade" until a couple years ago. They referred to it as a "cavalcade" previously. The only year we went for Halloween was 2015 and they ran PTN during the party. I would have preferred a full on Halloween parade for sure!

Halloween merchandise goes on sale when Halloween Time starts, which this year was on Sept. 7th. Every year the pickings are slim by the time Oct. 31st rolls around. By that time, the holiday merchandise has been for sale for almost two months. That is why we tell posters in this thread to get what they want early, instead of waiting -- the chances that what they want will still be around by Halloween aren't great. Some things may still be around, but the size range won't be good or the color choices won't be great. Holiday Time starts the week after Halloween. The Halloween merchandise needs to be gone and the Christmas merchandise needs to be filing the shelves!

I guess I missed out. :(
