There should be a resorts etiquette brochure

Or the time I was at BC (what is it about BC?) and kids were playing a game by bouncing a ball in the hall against MY door, not their own. That was fun . . .

Then there was the family at CR that was checking out at 2am, and yelling back and forth to each other outside my door about did you get this, or did you get that? I had to stick my head out of the door and remind them that people were sleeping. Duh!

All it takes is a little consideration of your fellow travelers . . .

Open door, let ball bounce in, close door. Problem solved! :worried:

I was always concerned my kids would be too loud in the halls (still am really) so I would tell them that we were secret agents and could not be discovered.

The ukulele on the balcony might win--that's nuts! I can see where kids are involved sometimes it can go bad, or an adult is doing something normal like talking on the phone and they just forget their balcony is really public space. But if you bring out your ukulele, you know what you are doing.

How about guitar playing AND singing on balcony at night. Even with the door closed, you could still hear him. We were on the floor above. I'm sure the animals at AKL enjoyed it.

We've been very lucky w/ our stays at ASMo and Pop, but we always ask for the top floor.
Having said that, we'd much rather be camping with our camper. But it's too long of a drive to take in the winter when we like to go,

Here’s my confession. This was about 10 years ago. We were bw view in the villas. The balconies are enclosed so the sound really bounces.

I suffer from migraines. Add in insomnia and a 1 br is a gift.

About 2 am I am in the or medicated and praying my meds would knock out the pain. There are at least 4 people on the balcony below us. I could hear the beer can when they opened it. The noise just bounced plus their voices. It was excruciating.

I called them. I lied. I said I was the front desk and there was a noise complaint. They headed in and didn’t hear another peep all night long. Still not sorry.

Sound machines, sound machines, sound machines! We use two at a time and never hear any of these noises. Dohm is considered to be the best, it’s white noise only.

Our last room at BCV was right by the pool, right by the maid service door, and right by the ice machine. And we couldn’t hear anything!

Oooh. Thanks for sharing. That looks like a good one. I have one for my daughter from the baby aisle at Walmart or something and the tone is too high pitched. Like the snowy screen on a tv. I prefer a low tone similar to a fan being run. I’ll have to give that one a try!

On vacation, I like using a fan to block out noise but on low so I could still hear if something is wrong. So I agree that people should not be obnoxious and refer to their handouts in case they lapse in judgement.

I am at BC resort currently. How people behave is quite interesting. It would be lovely if there was an etiquette guide

No screaming in halls
Inside low voices in hallways
No thundering wildebeest running in resort hallways
No conference calls on speaker phone on balconies
No ukulele or guitar playing on balconies
No marital spats in Public spaces
No grabbing your kid and slamming him in a chair in the lobby for being a kid

I get crying babies, can’t help that one of course.

I do have a nasty migraine and hiding in my batcave room. So seeing and hearing more than I ever wanted. I give my neighbors credit, they were very quick to respond to my requests. That was nice. I think people forget how much sound carries.

:worship::worship::worship::worship::worship::worship:

I want to get tshirts made ... in lots of colors .... that I can wear every day of my trips.

Perhaps some Disney-like artwork .... but they will say ....

THERE IS NO VACATION FROM PARENTING

Of course that won't help the ukulele or adult fighting.

Feel better!

I'm taking my baby on our first family vacation next month. Nothing gets between baby and a full night sleep. I am taking some serious notes!

We always have a sound machine with us, too. Makes a huge difference!

However it looks, there needs to be resort, parks, buses, and airplanes etiquette. Some will follow and some not!! :sad2:

Yes! There definitely needs to be etiquette lessons at parks and resorts. What’s so hard about using indoor voices? Adults should know better. Last time I stayed at The Poly, there was a group don’t know if they were family or friends but they had 2 rooms next to each other on ground floor. Doors propped open with door latch, patio doors open, lots of back and forth and drinking. I remember feeling very sorry for those in nearby rooms.

The cell phones on balconies, ugh. Don’t know why some people feel they have to talk extra loud on phone.

On another stay the room next to me had several (older)children who propped door open with latch, continually running and screaming up and down the walkway, in front of our room, running into their room, slam, slam. Ugh. This is when I open door, stick my head out and give them the stink eye! I was happy it was our last day and we were switching resorts in the morning, or I would have gone to the desk.

Anyone smoking on their balcony or walkway in front of their room near me and I go to the front desk. It is always taken care of. Smoke really messes with my sinuses badly.

It really boggles my mind why some people don’t understand common curtesy.

What is it about BC? Well it starts with the lack of sound insulation between rooms (especially between connecting rooms) and the lack of a door sweep that lets in all of the noise from the hallways. I think at least some of it is people who think they can do whatever they want because of how much they are paying and others who are just oblivious. We stopped going there and tried YC but while that was better it was still not as quiet as we like. In addition, we think the change to hard flooring is going to make it worse as more sound will carry between floors. We now stay at the Swan which so far has been a much quieter experience. We hope it stays that way.

Last week we were leaving Pop at 6:00 in the morning, being as quiet as possible, but I felt like our rolling luggage was so loud in that early hour when all was so quiet. I apologize if we disturbed anyone!

YES to all of these! Don’t even get me started on airplane etiquette....a foot long tuna fish sandwich on the plane? Really?
:lmao:

Oh my that phone!!! My sis in law came with us years ago. We were on the 5th floor at AKL. DH and I were down on the Savannah level looking at the flamingos, and we could hear every word of her phone conversation. This was repeated everywhere we were, in the CL lounge, the parks, everywhere. DH told me if she went again, he was out.
Just curious....but did neither of you say anything to her? Nobody mentioned to her how annoying it was?

At home I have a white noise machine. ITS LOVELY! When I travel I use a white noise app. Its wonderful! Couldnt hear a damn thing. I love it and i very highly recommend it to folks. There's a ton of different sounds to choose from too....waterfall, ocean, fan, airplane, white noise, birds....even annoying sounds like water dripping from the faucet (that was drive me INSANE), and city traffic for new yorkers who miss the traffic noise. Lol.

Open door, let ball bounce in, close door. Problem solved! :worried:
:lmao: :rotfl: This had me in stitches. hahahahaha. love it! Seriously, bouncing a ball on MY door? i'd put an end to that nonesense really quick.

:lmao: :rotfl: This is too funny. I absolutely love this thread. Ha ha!

Ha ha! Brilliant!

You can’t have etiquette without common sense and there a lot of that missing these days.

I agree and it's not just at Disney. FAR too many self-absorbed people in public who act like the world revolves around them and are oblivious to anyone else they might impact. Books on etiquette would be a waste of time since the intended audience wouldn't grasp it applies to them and will continue to be rude/obnoxious in whatever public setting they are in.

Yes. totally agree to everything you just wrote.

I am never bothered or offended by noises that can’t be helped, and this would be one. I also check out early in the morning and try to be as quiet as possible with closing the door and rolling the suitcase. I think most people are frustrated by the noises and actions that are preventable. There’s a big difference in the sound of a rolling suitcase and the sound of a rolling suitcase accompanied by loud talking, or allowing the suitcase to bang into things as it rolls. I am sure you weren’t as noisy as you thought you were.

What about the bus seating???? I know it is only polite to let kids have their own seat but a child can sit on a lap and give up the seat for elderly.

I used to think that. Until a friend of mine pointed out that with her fibromyalgia it would be exceeding painful for her to hold a child on her lap like that.

You truly don't know what other people are dealing with

This should all be common sense and shouldn't need to be written. Although I don't mind the ukulele or guitar playing on the balconies as long as they are good and aren't doing so at unreasonable volume or times of day. I don't play, so you wouldn't want me to do so, but again, if they are good, go for it.

As for grabbing a kid and slamming him in a chair, if I witnessed this, I would report it to at least security if not calling the police and reporting the child abuse.

I really hope I don't have thundering wildebeest in the resort hallways, as that would mean that they somehow escaped the enclosures outside my Balcony (staying at AKL with a Savannah View)
