Detheming of resorts? (a word?)

Pardon my giddiness, our trip is back on!

Inspired by another thread, I looked up pictures of room refurbs to see the before and after so I can understand what everyone means when they say the Disney feel is leaving.

What do you mean in these pictures? Is it the bedspreads (yuck)?

Your feelings about wallpaper are the way I feel about bedspreads - hate them!

I don't even think the new rooms look dethemed. You can clearly see the style of each hotel in the new decor, at least in my opinion. And I don't see an abundance of Mickey in any of the rooms. :)

I miss the bedspreads too. I understand the reasoning behind getting rid of them but at least keep the runners for that theme tie in.

I agree, the rooms are getting 'dethemed' and I REALLY don't like it. Saw the Yach Club refurb and it's so boring. The rooms reminded me of Donald Duck before.

Thanks for your answer, but I think we actually disagree! And that's okay! ;)

I much prefer the beds without bedspreads, but I find the new rooms to have less theming. I don’t theme needs to mean clutter. I like the little touches (mickey lamps, detail in flooring, small disney touches). for a while, there were runners on the beds almost like the ones in the “old” CSR picture you shared, because they were decorative but not overwhelming.

I hate bed runners - a totally useless item. And bedspreads usually end up on the floor - with the runners. The old rooms were way too busy IMO with patterns that fought for dominance. I think you can still see the theming but it's not so dated looking and is clean and fresh.

I think OPs point is that a lot of this “missing the themeing in the newer rooms” is in our nostalgic minds. At least based on the provided photos the rooms really didn’t seem to be anymore themed in the past than they do now. I’m open to counter points as I personally wasn’t luckily enough to stay onsite until after 2000. We lived 80 minutes away so it was almost always day trips for us.

I like all of those new rooms much better, other than the CSR one, I actually loved that old room with the dark doors and headboard, that said I have not seen the new room in person so it could be lovely, I do much prefer the longer table in the new room. I hated those old bedspreads, they were horrible and look so dated, the first thing I always did was remove that thing and hide it far away.

Yes, exactly! :)

I used to miss the look of the bedspreads. Now they just seem so dated, so I’m glad they’re gone. But I do miss the weight of them when I sleep. Yeah, I know.....I may be the only person ever to sleep with them.

Both my husband and I prefer the weight of our duvet at home when we sleep, and he tried to convince me to use the bedspreads at WDW on more than one occasion, but it was just non negotiable for me. I found them scratchy and didn't trust that they were washed, even though I am usually the opposite of a germaphobe, I know that he was looking at that closet longingly a time or two, and would have had no issue sleeping with it if it weren't for me :rolleyes1.

To me, the bedspreads were the main theming at Pop (characters on the bed) and POFQ (mardi gras theming and colours) So once the white bedding was introduced, the theming was lost. Pop also had Mickey heads in their carpet.

While I love the new look of the beds and rooms overall, some little Disney touches would be appreciated in the decor/pictures.

Ah, thanks for specific examples! I'm going to look for pictures. Although I'm biased, I love the look of the new Pop rooms, the color and artwork is fantastic.

I think all the deluxes should have the high end carpet like Grand Floridian still has after its latest refresh. For the Values I get the fake hard woods as their carpet was pretty icky to begin with after the sheer volume of people those rooms saw.

I do like almost all of the recent room refreshes though.
