Renovated Coronado Springs ... Not a Fan

True enough. I intended my review to be one of my experience with the resort as a whole, not a review of the refurbishment per se. But, as it was a refurb room I stayed in, there were some specific elements relating to that, some things in fact I would have preferred they not changed.

This was just cosmetic, right? If it had been a mechanical issue, the elevator wouldn't have worked?

Good question. the entire elevator would lurch up about an inch and a half prior to the doors closing. The panels covering the overhead lighting bounced a bit more than seemed right. Honestly, pretty normal things that elevators can get to be doing and didn't seem dangerous, just a little more 'jinky' than I expected.

Did they swap out All the tubs, or - as with Pop Century - convert just some?

That's a great question. I can't find a video review of the new rooms that does have a tub.

Honestly, from the map and everything I know about CS, isn't the Rancho's section even further?

It is. Using google maps measurement tool I plotted the walking path and the furthest Ranchos room is about 500' longer of a walk than I had. Normally I range the resort property a bit first hand and have a better perspective of where things are but with the construction and the sheer size of this place I didn't do that here. From my balcony I think the Rancho building looked like a closer walk.

Almost all of the DS hotels now have EMH and 60 day fastpasses. Every WDW guest has the option of using MDE.

1. No tub. I had no idea how big of a downer this was going to be when we checked in. I don't know if some of the renovated rooms kept their tub or not, but every review on YouTube shows the new shower stall. It's a nice shower stall, but it's not a tub. After walking for 10 hours straight, there's nothing relaxing about standing that much longer in a shower.

The tub thing is subjective. I prefer a shower. The idea of sitting in a public (hotel) tub absolutely skeeves me out. I prefer a nice shower i can walk in and out of safely. I just came back from a trip, stayed at Pop (which was just renovated). I did a split stay with Movies (also partially renovated, but i had a new room at both resorts). Not all rooms had a shower. A lot of rooms had a tub. BOTH my rooms had a tub, which was unfortunate because i'd prefer a shower.

Yup what a bonehead move that was to remove the tubs. My two year old is scared to death of showers.

We dont know if ALL rooms have a shower though. In Pop/Movies, they have both showers and tubs. Maybe someone who has stayed recently can confirm if there are tubs in some rooms.

I had a refurbished room in July that had a tub.

Thanks for your report. We just returned from a 10 day stay at CSR ourselves.

the gift shop was poorly stocked, like it looked vacant, and had no real theming.

We thought the same, but to be fair, the gift shop is still under refurbishment currently.

The 'smart' thermostat refused to let us set a temp less than 68 degrees without putting it into Limited Energy Management mode (Len on display). And it's room temp display lied to us, telling us it was much cooler than it actually was.

We experienced the same, however housekeeping had it set to 65 when we first checked-in and we didn't attempt to change it until the end of our stay. It definitely did NOT feel like 65 degrees, but was still comfortable. When we did change it at the end of our stay, we couldn't get it to go past 68 again. There is an override you can do, but I don't know how it works.

I absolutely hated the hard surface floor. For a couple reasons, but I'll just cover the superficial ones here. It looked nice and was warmer than most plastic 'wood' flooring, but it sounded like it was hollow and it felt like walking on plastic. It felt like an old linoleum floor. I associate hard surface floors (other than actual wood) with wet rooms, kitchen, bathroom, laundry etc. Having a plastic floor throughout the room made it less cozy.

I was neutral on the floors, but I will add that I do think it amplified the sound of the woman walking in high heels in the room above us. I also noticed that housekeeping did not sweep or vaccuum for the duration of our stay - as evidenced by the amount of hair on the floor that grew over the course of our stay from all the shedding my hair does when I style it, and also due to the towel lint and crumbs we noticed in the corner of the bathroom that stayed. I suspect housekeeping can get away with less floor cleaning with the hard floors.

As for room location, we booked a preferred room and were in Casitas 3 which was very convenient. The size of CSR doesn't bother us much, but the preferred rooms there are ideal for being close to El Centro and Bus Stop 2, which is first pick up and first drop off.

I really think there is a little bit for everybody at Disney. Hence the reason they have so many different themed resorts.

It's already complete (pictures here). I've seen it compared to a college dining hall now. All the bright colors are gone.

I recall seeing beer, but wasn't looking for liquor or wine so I can't confirm. They still have a small refrigerated section where beer and other drinks were sold.

Hideous right?! I suspect that's why CSR (and other resorts) went with a more neutral palette during the refurbishment. It stays relevant longer. Less inclined to become outdated so quickly.

Disney Springs hotels are off-site. They receive many of the on-site benefits that used to be exclusively for only Disney properties.

I personally love CSR for families and conventioneers. I have been there for both.

The renovated rooms are much more sophisticated. They have so much more storage and great for a working traveler.

The bus service is fantastic! The pool is amazingly themed and so much fun for all ages.

The white comforters are clean looking until you spill something like my DH invariable does. But if the rest of the little details go, might as well just dispense with the names of the resorts and just go with a numbering scheme by general area, Epcot resorts, MK resorts, AK resorts, Disney springs resorts, EP hotel #1, EP HOTEL #2, and so on.

We stayed in a refurbished room at CSR. We loved it. We had a great stay.
It was clean, light and looked more sophisticated than the previous deco. Less is more, the Disney theming was there but not gaudy and out-dated.
We had a tub with a shower in our room, we were in Ranchos 6A. Great bus service.
Took about 10 minutes to walk to El Centro, not bad at all even though it was HOT.

Yes, they still sell wine in the gift shop, I had to ask at the desk because the coolers were not in yet. NP.
Don't know about beer.
Hope this helps answer a few questions.
