I listen to several Cubs podcasts during the season when driving. This one

is less popular and it’s just two guys stressing over things but they do it more frequently which is good during the off-season.
If we go for BH or MM at 35M per year we’re looking at a 50+ million level 3 salary cap penalty which... by rumors that are circulating... the Ricketts may not want to necessarily green light for just one so-called “generational” player alone. Unclear where the rumors are coming from and with what motives: from our competition? From Boras? From our own front office as a countermove if they are having philosophical differences with TR? I may be in the minority but I’d be all for using 2/3 of that money to have mutiple fixes and depth than just on one person. One thing that everyone agrees with, have to go for it these next 2 years. Can’t have a 220M payroll just to be Rockies-level good. Brewers did that impressively with less than 100M. Have to wisely spend another 20-30M (=60,70 w penalties) to get elite again. And they get that money back several fold when the results come in.
