1. Same type of TV programs and Movies - Not really... My mother & I both watch "Dancing w/ the Stars," but that's about it - she likes Hallmark type movies/programs & gentle police procedurals while I like my TV a little grittier & not as sappy. My dad loves movies, but, for the most part, we don't like the same ones.

Your dad must have been my dad's competitor. My dad owned Dry Creek Lumber in RL, Auburn Blvd and Stockton Blvd

1. Same type of TV programs and Movies - Mom and dad liked westerns (Bonanza etc), me not so much. But my mom liked soap operas and I like reality type tv so probably close in today's tv.

3. Same type of Occupation - No. dad was self employed, mom was a SAHM. I was bored staying at home.

Or one of his suppliers. He operated under the name Black Diamond Lumber, and Donovan Company. His office was on the second floor of the Buggy Whip Restaurant on Fulton Avenue. His business partner was Mead Kibbey who passed away in September. That may be a name you know. Mead later became huge in the wholesale lumber industry in Northern California. My dad retired due to health issues in 1965 and passed away in 1967.

No

4. Living in the same area - No

2. Sames Religion or Non Religion - Yes. Not as conservative, but yes.

Yes. My mom is a homemaker and so am I.

4. Living in the same area - Nope. I moved 2 hours away, but same state....for now

5. Same Political belief - For the most part. They are more conservative than me.

1) no. I favor cartoons and comedy and not westerns and crime drama.

2) no. Not at all. Very much different.

3) no. I’m a chef and entrepreneur, they were both military and nurses/teacher.

4)no. They live on the pacific coast and I have spent most of my adult life in the northeast and Utah.

5) definitely not with one, more over lap with the other.

On #5, don’t you sometimes wish it could go back to those days? Politics were rarely discussed and even then it was usually reserved for holidays and family gatherings. The news was someone reading the actual news not giving their opinion or anyone else’s. Just news.

1. Same type of TV programs and Movies - Sort of. Mostly? I appreciate the stuff they like, but I am more heavily vested in shows and movies that aren't really their cup of tea.

2. Sames Religion or Non Religion - Both Christian, but they are Catholic and I am an American Baptist. I am also much more involved in church leadership and service than either of them ever were.

3. Same type of Occupation -
Nope. My dad worked in the scheduling department of a company that made steel and products out of steel. My mom worked as a secretary for a Coca-Cola bottling plant and then later as a grocery clerk. I'm a software developer.

4. Living in the same area - Yes.

5. Same Political belief - Yes, but I'm more progressive and they are more centrist.

1. Same type of TV programs and Movies - NO - my dad watches hockey and baseball, I watch football. My mom watches things like the Biggest Loser (is that even on anymore?!) and Hallmark Movies. I'm more of a Impractical Jokers and Historical Documentary kind of person

2. Sames Religion or Non Religion - KIND OF. We are all Catholic, my mom is a practicing Catholic, but I am more just in spirit. I went to Catholic schools growing up and enjoy going to Mass every once in a while, but my kids haven't really been raised in the church.

3. Same type of Occupation -
NO, neither parents went to college - one was a mail carrier and the other will retire next year from being a Dr. Office Manager (worked her way up through the ranks over the years). I have a professional career with a Fortune 500 Company. None of the three are better than the other, IMO. My dad made decent money with the USPS all in all. And my mom followed the typical career path of a former 1980's housewife who raised a bunch of kids to teenager-hood before going to work as a part time dr. office receptionist. It all worked out in the end. And I make a good living but live every day knowing I can be laid off any minute in today's culture of disposable human resources :crazy2:

4. Living in the same area - NO, parents live in retirement states, I live in a different state than where I grew up, however we did all live in generally the same area (within an hour of each other) until the past 10 years

5. Same Political belief - Sort of - mom. She is a Republican. Dad - sort of...he is a Democrat. I am an Independent with some strong Republican beliefs and some strong Democratic beliefs. I follow the platform, not the party.

1. Same type of TV programs and Movies - Nope, not even close

2. Sames Religion or Non Religion -
No, well non-religion I guess with one.

3. Same type of Occupation -
No

4. Living in the same area - One is several states away (thank goodness), the other less than an hour, haven't seen them in 2 years.

5. Same Political belief - yes on one, and polar opposite with the other.

I have zero in common with either of my parents, and they have been divorced for 46 years and have zero in common with each other.
