Resort Parking Fees to be enforced

We were considering not renting a car in 2019 anyway, this all will probably cinch the deal. One of our party has disabled parking permit which I understand gets the car exempt from the fees but regardless, next Oct/Nov we'll take Tiffany in to Board Walk with a grocery stop to stock up on food & drink then ride DME to MCO. As South West customers we'll check the luggage at BW before taking the bus out.

They may still go but I bet they scale back on something.

Count me in this bunch. My resort stays are going to be a day shorter to accommodate a friend dropping me off and picking me up to avoid the parking issue. So that is four nights of revenue they won’t get from me, as well as not getting the parking fee at all. I have also already booked two of those four stays through a third party, which means Disney has to pay them commission on my booking as well. I don’t know how much that commission is, but just the lost nights and lost parking are over $1000 they aren’t getting from me next year. I don’t consider it money in my pocket either though, as not paying will just about keep my travel budget the same as 2018. You just do what you have to do to make it work without compromising your principles.

Have not read this whole thread, but....

We are staying at POP Century. We plan on having a non-park day to go to Disney Springs and visit some other resorts to see their Christmas decorations. Will they allow us to park for free at other resorts since we are staying/paying for parking at POP?

They are charging for parking to detour people from driving themselves. When you rent a car or drive to WDW you now have the ability to go wherever you want. You can go to Universal Studios, Seaworld, Legoland, etc. There is so many other non-disney things to do in Orlando. If you are spending your days going to non-disney parks, Disney obviously isn't getting your money. You didn't buy a park ticket for the day, you won't be buying food and beverages or souvenirs. If you have your own car you can even just go grab dinner or breakfast at a non-disney restaurant. You aren't stuck in the Disney bubble. When someone flies into Disney and takes Disney transportation they are less likely to be going elsewhere. Yes, there is uber and lyft but that can get pricey, roundtrip to Universal one day, roundtrip to Legoland the next.

Would you say more people rely on Disney transportation compared to having their own car?
How much is it to park overnight? Has there been like clear rates given?

You won't have to pay at DS or other resorts. If the resorts have limited parking available, though, you could be turned away.

I'm sure this was part of the thinking for the fees, just as was the case when Disney instituted DME. In the DME decision Disney calculated that their cost to offer this would be offset by having a more captive audience. Ultimately though I believe Disney concluded that they were, in business terms, 'Leaving money on the table' by not charging a parking fee. Other upper end hotels, think of S/D, have been doing it for years, calling it a Resort Fee.

S/D has both a parking fee and a resort fee.

This isn’t uncharted territory. Thousands of resorts are successfully managing parking as we speak. That’s what makes Disney’s behavior all the more peculiar.

The resorts are already gated and you have to stop to check in. Perfect time to get a dated window hanger of a certain color. Visitors could receive another. Then just enforce it! My guess is the issue is in the enforcement. Disney wants to charge for all the reasons listed here, but doesn't want to seen enforcing the policy.

Jokes on them (or me). I drive and still don't want to to the leave the bubble!

Please clarify for me as I haven't been able to read all posts. If we rent a car and pay for parking for the length of stay at our resort, and have an ADR for Chef Mickey's, can we take the monorail to the park after the meal, or is the time still limited?

Yes you can. We did. In fact the people at our resort CBR let us know we can absolutely do it since we pay for parking at CBR. When went to yacht club for breakfast the guard asked my name and when reservation was, scanned my band and I parked all day and walked to Epcot. This was just 4 weeks ago.

Also when we just visited boardwalk I told parking attendant we are staying at CBR and just wanted to visit. He scanned my magic band, probably to verify and let me in. Again since we are parking paying guests it’s no issue. It’s for the non hotel scammers.

Parking at EPCOT and MK resorts and then going to a park is NOT ALLOWED; those lots are for guests staying at the resorts.
You were lucky it was allowed.

Staying at POP or any other Disney resort does not give you a right to park at all Disney resorts. It gives you the right to park at POP. (And the theme park parking lots.)

If you do not have an ADR, you might be turned away. If you do have an ADR, you're supposed to limit the stay to a few hours while you shop and eat.

The cast members who misinformed Kingdome8 need better training. He should not be taking parking spaces from guests at the Yacht Club so he can visit Epcot. Yacht Club guests should not have to park elsewhere because guests at values and mods find their lot more convenient than the Epcot parking lot. But until Disney develops a more consistent policy, there will be issues like this.

I wish Disney could/would CONSISTENTLY stop the visitors from parking at resorts just to visit parks and avoid paying the $25 for parking at the parks.

This is correct, but perhaps some CMs know you can get away with it and are suggesting it? If so not the guests fault.

I can verify that is not NORMALLY allowed. When we went to a dinning event at the GF, the "My Disney Girls a Perfectly Princess Tea Party" the valet CM said this exact statement, "Included in the cost of the tea party(this is the silly expensive one not the Alice one) is free all day parking at GF, so you can monorail to the park, as opposed to the normal 4 hour parking window for ADRs".

Just to state again. Numerous employees told me it was allowed. Since I paid at another resort. My car wasn’t one of the ones they were worried scamming. Obviously if I didn’t have a dining reservation I would drive directly to park. But as I was told since we have food reservation and paid for parking at my hotel I can leave car and go to parks. It was great. Highly recommend. Lol

Most of the gate guards are retired folks and their info is no better than the bus drivers. You paid for parking at a moderate does not entitled you to park at a deluxe ( higher parking fee) and go to Epcot for the day. Somehow I think you knew that before hand.

Again. I had a food reservation so I had a right to be there. Lol. I was told by numerous people front desk and concierge that I was absolutely allowed too. I’m that type of person who asks numerous times cause I do t want to get in trouble. Drives my wife crazy. But hey don’t do it if u have a reservation. But I will

Hotel parking fees and theme park parking fees are two distinct things.
