Jambo! The newest AKL Information thread

We have our first AKL stay coming up in December and I was wondering if there is a tour of AKL?
Good question!

There are art and culinary tours at both Kidani and Jambo :-) Check the recreation guide, but they're usually around 4pm.
We will be spending 2 nights the week following Thanksgiving and plan to spend a lot of time at the resort so this is very helpful!

Last I heard from FB photos, the pool has been filled with water but is not yet open; however they are expecting it to open earlier than previously expected :)
Oh please, oh please, oh please! I just told dh I planned on 4 or so hours just to hang at the resort our first day......

Booked AKL yesterday for a resort-only stay for my family and I Aug 10-12. That's right after our 2 weeks stay at St. Pete Beach. When I learned that the DIS organizes a Pandora DIS party on Aug 10 I jumped on the occasion of staying at AKL (our first deluxe stay) since we are already in FL! I will be the only one attending the party while DH stays in the room with our girls.
I am actually off work that weekend. I should do a long weekend!

Question about balloons... I tried searching but I kept getting an error message, so I apologize if this has been discussed!

I know in the past balloons have not been allowed at DAKL and were held with the luggage. I thought I read somewhere that in the last year or so they began to allow balloons in the rooms, just not on the balcony/in public areas. Does anyone know if this is true? I'm contemplating ordering some balloons from Disney Floral & Gifts for our Christmas-themed stay. Their website does call out that balloons cannot be delivered to DAK Theme Park, but makes no mention of DAK Lodge.

Thanks all!

for those who have seen the pool. same color plaster? that tan/white base?

i would think another month before it opens due to the new plaster break in. most plaster pools need 28 days for break-in foe the plaster to be cured enough and balanced properly. i know for home use some finsihed u can get right in, but we are talking residentail vs commercial. i bet at least another month since fill day.

It's true, they did not give us a hassle bringing a Mickey balloon back to the room in Jambo House earlier this month and it stayed in there for 8 nights with no issues.1011-1-resized.jpg

We are staying at AKL for the first time in January! It will also be our first trip with our LO who will be 16 months old then. Are there any resort activities (besides animal watching of course!) that might appeal to her? We will be in Jambo House, but I’ve heard the kids pool area at Kidani is amazing - would this be a bit intense for such a little one or is there parts she would enjoy? TIA!

I don't have children so no first hand experience but from the description it sounds like there are a few distinct areas in the Uwanja Camp, and that the one for kids 3 and younger may be a great fit for your little one.

Samawati Springs Pool
Make a splash at the Samawati Springs Pool—located just a short walk away at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani! Featuring an exciting 128-foot waterslide and zero-depth-entry, this 4,700-square-foot, 118,138-gallon pool is the perfect place to cool off and have fun.

Nearby, a lounge and bar offer refreshments and snacks.

Uwanja Camp
The pool area also includes Uwanja Camp, a water playground with 3 distinct zones to please kids of all ages. At Observation Station, children 4 years of age and younger can climb through cargo crates, unscramble animal images and frolic through a gently bubbling geyser and shallow cistern pool—while their parents watch from nearby.

At Departure Zone, a leaky water tower and sneaky African irises squirt children 5 to 7 years of age, while at Base Camp, kids 8 years of age and up can douse each other with water cannons.

Looks like the early reopening of the Uzima Pool is official. The November Recreation Calendar released today says it will reopen on 11/5. https://otpn.smugmug.com/Disney-Resort-Recreation-Calendars/NOVEMBER-2018/i-CkQkhk8/A

Woohoo!! Thanks for posting the recreation calendar AND for pointing out the awesome news about the pool!! It being closed wasn't a big deal for us but knowing that we will be staying at a resort free from major construction is a huge plus!

Thank you! I don’t know how I missed that thorough description! Haha. That sounds like it’s worth a visit for sure :)

Fabulous news. I have been quietly commiserating with others about it being closed for my early December stay. As a DVC member and it being my home resort, I made the reservation exactly 11 months out. I was so disappointed when the rehab was announced. All that angst for nuthin . . .

We'll be heading to Jambo the first week of December and our flight gets in pretty late. My daughter will be sleeping on the pull out couch. Last time we arrived, it took a long time to have sheets brought up to the room for the pull out. I'd like to request that they're in the room already this time, so she can get to bed sooner rather than later after a long day of travel. Does anyone know the best way to make that request? We're DVC, so I'm not sure if I should call the DVC line or fax a request to AKL directly, or... if I'm just going to have to wait an hour+ and just deal with it.

Also: Hooray and Yahooo on the pool opening early! That's such happy news! Thanks for sharing the calendar and updates.

I would call member services, but every time we go the sheets have already been put on the pullout, and the extra comforter was in a bag in the closet.

So, not gonna lie, but I really hope that the date of the pool opening isn't a typo and they are like "surprise, JK!"

We always use the pullout in the 1 br.s at Jambo & have never had to call down for sheets.

Hey y'all! Was wondering if sanaa still has quick service breakfast? we will be down in Jan and I need to start a grocery list if no breakfast is available.

Hot stuff. We must have just hit some bum luck last trip, because there were no sheets, blankets, pillows, etc for the pull out - we scoured the room! It was our first trip as DVC members so I had no idea what the norm was and figured we just had to call for them.
Maybe I'll just presume positive outcomes and plan for the bedding to be in the room. What are the chances of no bedding twice?
Thanks!
