We have an outer building, garden view room. I see they say "most" GF rooms have a balcony. Should I request a balcony, or would it be unusual not to get one? My mom would really like one. :) Any advice appreciated!
I think that it is mostly the deluxe rooms that don't have a balcony. But to be safe, you can request an open balcony, as opposed to the dormer balconies. I always like to request a nice view, too. :)

Hi, everyone! We are surprising our oldest kiddo for her 9th birthday (in May) with our first-ever stay at the beautiful GF! We are not new to deluxe resorts, but we are new to GF, & this will also be our first time staying club level. We have an outer building club level room booked for a week. Any suggestions on room requests? Thanks! :)

Hello! My family and I are longtime Disney fans, but upcoming trip will be a few firsts. I had a windfall from a freelance project and wanted to do something really special for my mom. So, we're going to the Dec. 4 Christmas party! I booked the Contemporary for Dec. 3 and 4, but then my husband convinced me to add another day so things wouldn't be so rushed...and we got a Grand Floridian room for that night! Mom has ALWAYS wanted to stay at the GF, and I'm so excited to take her.

Yes, most rooms have balconies. I like either a Big Pine or Boca Chica. I also request an upper floor with open balcony, no dormer! With a nice courtyard pool view. Enjoy your night st the Grand!

Why "no dormer"? I found the dormer rooms and the semi private balcony to be great along with an upper floor view

I think I read some threads on here that the dormer rooms are smaller by about 4 feet, even though they might "feel" larger with the high ceilings. People who like the dormer rooms say they do not care or notice a space difference, but I think there was one post where someone head to switch rooms b/c the crib did not fit in the dormer room with the lower sf.

Some enjoy the dormer rooms. I’m not one. I don’t like that they’re smaller, the balcony is half the size of regular balconies and sitting down you’re just staring out at a wall. You have to stand up tp see anything. I like sitting outside with my morning coffee enjoying the view. I feel it also makes the room dark because not as much light comes in with the solid wall of balcony.

Our last Dormer room in Conch Key faced the courtyard and with the vaulted ceiling, we got plenty of light reflected. Think of the balcony as a little more private. We 3 spent plenty of time just viewing the grounds in the mornings and evenings from the highest floor vantage point. I will agree that if you are sitting down, you won't enjoy the view as much but we were mostly on the go. Great discussion and good points to ponder with this room type.

So, last time we stayed at the GF, thanks to y'all's recommendations, we had an awesome "garden view" room that actually had a peek-a-boo view of the castle. I can't for the life of me remember which building it was in or what I requested, but it was awesome. Anyone know what I could have requested? Hoping to score a similar room for our Christmas trip!

Do you remember your room #? If not the entire room # maybe what it started with?

Disney does like to be helpful when they can. At check in I would explain what you had last time and ask for something similar.

If they have it they will.

I memorized the room numbers for my last gv stay. At check in I knew right away I was getting a dormer room based on the #. I asked for a non dormer please. He looked and found one for me. Like @Rob Troxel i like the dormers but I knew dh would not. So for that trip it was important,

Fyi for my SL marina side rooms on the 4th floor with a dormer have been great for HEA with a side viewing and music from Gaspies!

We had dinner last night at Polite Pig sharing their combo platter. I wasn’t crazy about the sides but the meats and slaw was delicious!

I could have touched this guy as s/he escorted us to the lobby after parking.

I think I figured it out from searching on Touring Plans yesterday. We were at the back of Boca Chica on the third floor. Touring plans says to request: "Bldg Disney's Grand Floridian Resort Boca Chica,Flr 3,N-facing room.Exmple:8344" So, I'm going for that! Hopefully we'll get it!

Thanks for sharing with us! It brings about "wish we were there feelings". Our son and his family are in the 2 br suite at the Contemporary towers as we speak so with all the reports are appreciated. Their home base is the GF DVC so we hope to join them in Nov of 2019

I can almost taste that Dole Whip through my screen!!!

We stayed in the RPC two weeks ago. Room 4206 has a direct view of the castle and the boat slips. The staff in the lounge was wonderful! If you want a glass of wine before they put it out, just ask! I wanted one around 4:00pm and a CM happily got it for me. We saw a woman with a champagne each morning at breakfast.

The food was really good in the lounge. One morning they made fresh crepes. Another morning they made some kind of puff pastry drenched in cinnamon sugar that was delicious! The tomato soup was yummy and we ate a ton of the sun dried tomato pesto.

We were thrilled with our stay!

Glad you had a great time and enjoyed RPC :wizard:.

We arrive on November 20th (27 more days yahoo)!

You will be checking in before you know it! :yay:

30 days to go!!!

Not too much longer! :jumping1:

Our magic bands should be arriving tomorrow! I am starting to get really excited now about our first stay at GF!

How exciting! Hope you have a great time at the GF :wizard:.

Enjoy your trip. GF is amazing. Walk the grounds, relax in the splendor and beauty. Also listen to the orchestra, and the boat dock is a great place to watch happily ever after, as well as the electric water parade.

:thumbsup2

If anyone is enjoying the GF right now, would love to see pics to get me even more excited than I already am! I need this trip so badly. Two weeks until my son's Bar Mitzvah, and 26 days until we arrive at the GF for our first visit :yay:

Hope the days go fast for you! Enjoy your first GF stay!:banana:
