The ABC's of Sauntering Through WDW- J is for: Just Like That, It's Judiciously Ended! (4/23)

I will leave off there with half the alphabet. I hope you are enjoying a random smattering of AK photos as I sauntered around enjoying myself.
I am in awe of your photography skills. These pictures are spectacular!

Sorry to spoil any magical notions you might have had about this tree, but the structure underneath is indeed an oil rig. It's just as magical to me when I see what the Imagineers and artists have made it.
I had no idea about this....is the oil rig the frame for the tree/ So interesting!

Anyway, look closely at the adornments, art, etc.. on the various buildings and the theming becomes quite noticeable and obvious. And I love it! I love how Disney puts an intentionality to all they do to make a wonderfully cohesive story for us to enjoy.
Agreed! The immersive level of detail and storytelling is what makes me love Disney so much!

Hi Liesa! Love your scavenger hunt! I think alot of Asian countries have something like a tiffin. I have one from Japan made of laquer covered bamboo. I use it for a sewing box. How was Tiffins? I really need an adult only trip to try some of these new digs. Going with the fam, we tend to keep it mostly QS.

Hey to @jordanyosh! Glad you're doing well. Love watching Wendy's kiddos growing up on facebook.

I found this little write up hilarious as someone else wondered the same thing! LOLOLOL!!!

But it never answered the question. I found this information on the Q-tip website.

HOW LONG CAN I KEEP MY Q-TIPS® COTTON SWABS PRODUCTS AND WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO STORE THEM?
We suggest storing your Q-tips® cotton swabs in a cool, dry place away from dampness and humidity. When stored properly, your products should last for many years.

Steppe is away attending to other business at this time Imagineering other attractions for your future enjoyment

I wanna hear about this part!!!!!!

Changes happen at WDW pretty regularly, and as much as we hate to see progress, we all have to take those changes in stride.

So you're saying the Train and Rafiki's Planet Watch are going away?

I'd recommend the chickpea falafels while you're here!

I hope you've enjoyed our photo tour today and also hope you will come back to see us soon.

::yes:: Very nice pictures! I especially enjoyed the Zebra one.

M is for: Making Merry at Mickey's Halloween Bash

Hmmm, where shall I begin….??

I suppose the beginning is always a good place to start, and there’s just so much to tell!!

Here eat this..

tumblr_pbyovo7BBw1wzypxlo1_500.gif

NO!!! The other one!

Sigh…. Now you have to eat this one too.

Ok, that’s better. Now, we’re just going to fall headlong down this little rabbit hole into the realms of spooky. Don’t worry, it’s not THAT scary! In fact, it’s not-so-scary at all. A little quirky perhaps, with an extra measure of fun thrown in as well. A word of warning though, stay very close, the Queen of Hearts is lurking about, along with several of her Villainous Friends, who love nothing more than to make a little mayhem.

Alice and her friends, except that flaky rabbit, are very punctual and at precisely 5:30, I showed up at Mickey’s little soiree. It took me an hour to get properly fit for such an expensive exciting party as this, so I arrived a bit later than I’d hoped. But no biggie, I ended up doing all I really wanted to. I skipped through the gates and knew I needed to get my wristband and my trick-or-treat bag first, so headed towards the right to a special backstage-y area where I got my first fistful of candy. I was already getting some fun comments on my Alice-gone-Steampunk get up, and it was FUN!!!

But fun can’t go on for very long without food. And I had my eye on only a very few items for this evening. I’d read a lot of reviews on the special treats being offered and none were getting hugely great reviews so opted to skip most, if not all. But I'll get to that!

I headed straight for my go-to Nuggets of Loveliness. Not only do they feed my taste buds, they also stoke my sense of nostalgia like no other food at WDW. Oh, of course there are others that do as well, including frozen bananas and Dole Whips, but Casey’s Nuggets are that one thing that I try to get every trip. Unfortunately, several thousand other costumed guests must have gotten the same hankering, as it took about 30 minutes to order and get my nuggets.

Random party-goers in Casey's:

Magically, just like that, POOF! $6 of my ticket's time was gone! ($100 divided by 8 hours is s$12.50 per hour of spooky fun, right?) Still it was worth it. Before leaving the Main Street area, I headed back to the Fire Station to grab a Sorcerer’s Party Card for my son.

*** Of note, Casey's entrances were roped off and ONLY guests with wristbands were being let in and allowed to order. I'd have thought they'd have gladly taken non-party go-er's $$$$ as they made their way out of the park.

My tummy was no longer rumbly, so it was off to tackle Goal #2 of the night- meeting the More-Demure-Alice and Mad Hatter. It took a minute or so to find her line, but with a bit of asking, I found myself in a not-so-bad 30-minute queue. The waiting wasn’t bad at all as there was a cute couple waiting in front of me who were dressed as the Mad Hatter and a Zombie-like lady character. They were about my age and we had fun talking about the party and people watching.

Finally, it was my turn and when Alice saw me, her, umm…. less prim counterpart, she was immediately quite animated and excited to talk about my accessories. Mad Hatter told me that he liked my hat and we all prattled on about being punctual.

It totally was worth the wait and now it was time to see what other mischief I could get myself into.

I do know that I went on JC but will save those photos for another update. Instead, I’ll take us over to Pirates where I’d heard they added some live characters to the attraction. The wait was only about 15 minutes, and during that short wait, I saw not one, but two, scalawag pirates making a bit of their own mischief. The first one was Gunpowder Pete holding up a "Wanted" sign for… himself. It was hilarious!

The next was another pirate who swore he was behind bars for “no reason” and “was completely innocent”.

But the most hilarious interaction of all was during the ride itself.

On one of the bridges a Pirate Captain was talking to guests as they passed below. One guy in our boat yelled up to him, “Have you seen the Captain?!”

Pirate: “I AM the Captain!”

The Guy: “NO, the other Captain- Captain Jack Sparrow.”

Pirate: <Rolls eyes and states in tone of complete exasperation and disdain> “He’s not a REAL captain, you know.”

I about died laughing! That one brief interaction made the entire ticket price worth it.

Captain Jack trying on Halloween costumes:

One thing that struck me and I was very happy about was the crowd level. Honestly, it wasn’t bad at all. Ride lines were short and while I waited just a tad too long to get a spot for the parade, it was still very doable about 30 minutes before. Not for getting a shot at the Headless Horseman, but we’ll get to that in a bit.

After Pirates, I spent some time strolling around taking in the atmosphere. I won’t bore you prattling on about every move I made, and simply let the photos do the talking.

After some hours it was time for a little snack. (tbh, I did lose track of time and the order I did some of these things may be a bit different. But hey, what do I care? I eat mushrooms and drink blue stuff, so there ya have it.) I scooted off to find something I’d wanted to for quite some time- the Dole Whip Pineapple Upsidedown Cake. As they say in Holland, “It tasted like an angel peed on my tongue”. Absolutely divine!

And now, time to line up for the 1st parade. I wanted to make sure to do this one, as I had one goal in mind: get a decent shot of the Headless Horseman. If I couldn’t snag it from the first parade, I’d have a 2nd shot. But, as I said, I waited just a tiny bit too long and spent a good while trying to find an unobstructed place. Finally, I did find a spot kinda behind a trashcan with a nice family in front of me. How did I know they were nice? Well, when the dad figured out I was there to make a serious attempt at that one photo, he offered to let me stand in front of him when it was time. I actually declined, as the little “window” between them, the trashcan beside them, and another couple behind that, was good enough. I ended up doing it all handheld as the trashcan was juuuuuust a little bit too far out of reach for me, and this is what I got….

Behold… Party Goal #3: The Headless Horseman.

Not perfect by ANY stretch of the imagination, but not too shabby for: dark, moving target, handheld, less-than-perfect location. There's always next year!

...Continued from previous post

The rest of the parade is always super fun and I always enjoy it, especially the grave diggers, the ghostly ballroom dancers, and the Hitchhiking Ghosts. But, it’s really the music that makes this parade. Not so coincidentally, I’m listening to it right now. So catchy; I can’t help but to do a little be-bop as I listen! Enjoy:

Hey!!! YOU! Pick up your socks and clear your dishes off the table!

And take your wife out to dinner once in a while, you stingy, rotten scoudrel!

There, that's better.

"Didn't you hear the Pirate Lady?! You're supposed to take me out to dinner once in a while!"

Hey you! Did you try the Meunster Smash Burger yet??

"I LOVE my job!!!! <"Do I HAVE to keep doing this parade over and over and over and over.... forever?">

Just as the parade ended I turned to go and a very familiar looking couple were standing there. It was the same couple I’d waited in line with for Alice hours earlier! Ha, out of thousands of people, what were the odds?! (Don't answer that! They were better than winning the 1.6 billion in the lottery last week.) I said hi and we went our separate ways.

After the parade, it was time for getting some magic shots and do a little more trick or treating. Instead of looking scared, in most of my attempts at being cute or horrified, I simply ended up looking constipated. @pkondz , is that what you look like during your border crossings?

Okay, I did get one slightly better:

Stop laughing!!!

Here: Let's just look like I just got caught with another nurse's pen during a shift:

I have no idea why a burning pumpkin in my hand would be funny!

I managed to get them all but the Hitchhiking Ghosts. Ah well, next year! The ones I did get were super fun and didn’t take long at all. I don’t think I stood in line for any of them more than 5 minutes total. At one location, I knocked 3 of the shots out (Main Street) and in front of the park there were 2.

I was happy to have my new lens with me for trying it out on the HM. But it’s just so darn dark in there! I ended up with a (very!) few that are passable shots and not much else. Still fun to try…

At 10:00 I found a place to watch the fireworks and scored a SWEET spot on the hub with a rail in front me so there could be NO intruders. After a few shots, I just leaned back and enjoyed the show perfectly content and satisfied. As always it was a Spooktacular show!

I had arranged to meet up with Lorie, @tazdev3225 after the show and found her right away in front of Casey’s. We had a lovely, albeit short, visit and as usual, I sucked at remembering to document it with a photo. Sorry, Lorie!! FAIL on my part!!! But, it was so wonderful meeting you and I hope our paths cross again someday soon!

Carting around 4 billion accessories and FAR too many layers for a sultry Florida evening makes a girl hungry, and it was time for the other Party Food I’d had my eye on- the Meunster Burger at Cosmic Rays. It’s topped with Muenster cheese, tater tots, and the spicy sriracha aioli, and bacon. And wow, it was good!! I topped it with tomato, lettuce, pickles, etc… from the fixin's bar too. No, I didn’t eat it all, but what I did eat was fantastic! And I made JUST IN TIME! Ray’s is open until 11:00 and I sauntered in at 10:55. I was super happy they were still serving up this scary great Party Burger!

Once again sated, I waltzed off to the HM. One simply does not go to Mickey’s Party and NOT ride The Flagship Attraction. Outside, Madame Carlotta was in fine form cracking the most hilarious jokes as her usual, but I didn't take time to watch her as the night was quickly coming to a close.

The CMs had party specific makeup on and were extra morose as they welcomed you to join the 999 Happy Haunts. It was perfect- in every way possible.

I also picked up my last 2 Magic Shots here before starting to feel the length of the day. The only thing more frightening than the thought of HM being down during the Party was the thought of having to stand another half and hour on aching feet for a bus, so I began to make my way slowly back towards Main Street. I still needed a couple last items for my Alphabet Scavenger Hunt, so stopped in the Emporium to get those. While there, I also looked at some pins. I try to get at least a pin or two each trip as a memento and this year picked up this one for MNSSHP:

And that, my Wonderland Friends, was Steppe's Saunterings at Mickey's 2018 Halloween Bash. Now, here's one last trick or treat to get you out of this badly written hole:

It was really nice getting the chance to meet you. You got way more out of the party than I did. I wasted so much time playing catch up because of the scooter incident that I really didn't get a chance to enjoy much . My grandkids were happy with the loot I brought home though.

Friends:

I realize I'm delinquent on a few replies but the evening's getting late and I need to unwind before an early morning/LONG week. I will get to them hopefully tomorrow. :)

Have a great start to your week!!

Oh yay, I was pretty excited when I signed on to the boards and realized you'd posted about your MNSSHP night. I'd been looking forward to hearing about it since you talked about it on your pre-trip updates!

Love the costume! Steampunk Alice might be my new favorite Alice now. And I'm happy to hear you didn't have to endure a scary long line at the meet and greet.

I think you got a great shot of the Headless Horseman. Especially with no base to keep the camera steady AND the subject in question being mobile. Even better, you didn't have to try again at the later parade, which left you time to grab that special burger and ride the party classic - HM.

Overall, it sounded like a really fun party night. You got a lot of great pictures from the event and it seemed like you made sure to pause and enjoy the atmosphere.

I headed straight for my go-to Nuggets of Loveliness. Not only do they feed my taste buds, they also stoke my sense of nostalgia like no other food at WDW. I'm happy to report that I did get to enjoy a few corn dog nuggets on my trip. I'm sad to report that my overall experience at Casey's was not the best.

My tummy was no longer rumbly, so it was off to tackle Goal #2 of the night- meeting the More-Demure-Alice and Mad Hatter. It took a minute or so to find her line, but with a bit of asking, I found myself in a not-so-bad 30-minute queue.
30 minutes is not bad at all. Much better than the ridiculous amount of time I spent in a character line. Won't spoil all the details now, they will eventually find their way into my TR. I really like your costume, definitely a good character meet choice.

I do know that I went on JC but will save those photos for another update. Instead, I’ll take us over to Pirates where I’d heard they added some live characters to the attraction.
Sadly I did not get to experience the live characters on Pirates. Nor any of the special attractions add-ons this year.
I know I've made a couple negative comments now about the party. Not trying to bring the mood down, but I guess it's what I would call foreshadowing for my TR.

Not perfect by ANY stretch of the imagination, but not too shabby for: dark, moving target, handheld, less-than-perfect location. There's always next year!
It's not bad at all, and better than the ones I got. It's a tough picture, for the reasons you mention. But a very cool one if you get it.

Absolutely, it's a must do! I did manage to ride Haunted Mansion at the party. It was late in the night and sadly Carlotta was not out there.

This is fantastic! Such a great interaction and awesome photos! We also did this meet, as I'm sure you can imagine, since we went as Chesh and the Hatter.

On one of the bridges a Pirate Captain was talking to guests as they passed below. One guy in our boat yelled up to him, “Have you seen the Captain?!”

Pirate: “I AM the Captain!”

The Guy: “NO, the other Captain- Captain Jack Sparrow.”

Amazing!!

OMG :rotfl2:

Behold… The Headless Horseman.

Not perfect by ANY stretch of the imagination, but not too shabby for: dark, moving target, handheld, less-than-perfect location. There's always next year!

Not a bad attempt here at all! Considering the variables, I think you got a pretty great shot.

I love these ones! Great expressions.

My favourite part of this parade :lovestruc

Here: Let's just look like I just got caught with another nurse's pen during a shift:

:rotfl: But this is a great shot! :)

Beautiful! Love this show :goodvibes

Awesome photo!

I try to get at lease a pin or two each trip as a memento and this year picked up this one for MNSHHP:

I got this one, too! I love MNSSHP pins. And Orange Bird. So it was the perfect pin, basically.

The Guy: “NO, the other Captain- Captain Jack Sparrow.”

Pirate: <Rolls eyes and states in tone of complete exasperation and disdain> “He’s not a REAL captain, you know.”

For some reason, I'm hearing this in a total Johnny Depp voice, lol.

And, I thought I had quoted another bit - anyhow, your Steampunk Alice costume was awesome! Great photos with Alice and the Mad Hatter - glad you got your absolute must-do.

I was already getting some fun comments on my Alice-gone-Steampunk get up, and it was FUN!!!

My daughter gets comments on her Rainbow hair all the time and she loves it too! She say's its so much fun, especially when it's a little girl who is just so taken with the way it looks.

Of note, Casey's entrances were roped off and ONLY guests with wristbands were being let in and allowed to order. I'd have thought they'd have gladly taken non-party go-er's $$$$ as they made their way out of the park.

I am glad to hear this. I had heard that the party's weren't worth it any more because they were so crowded and you didn't get to do anything. I had heard that the general public was being allowed in to shops and restaurants even though they had not paid for the ticket. I am excited to know that it is not the case, at least not at all parties.

Finally, it was my turn and when Alice saw me, her, umm…. less prim counterpart, she was immediately quite animated and excited to talk about my accessories.

This sounds so fun!

I’ll take us over to Pirates where I’d heard they added some live characters to the attraction.

I had heard that this was pointless as well. Again super glad to hear that it is fun. I had thought it sounded amazing to have live people in there playing with the riders. When I started hearing bad things, I got a little disappointed.

After Pirates, I spent some time strolling around taking in the atmosphere. I won’t bore you prattling on about every move I made, and simply let the photos do the talking.

I love just walking around taking in the atmosphere.
As usual, your pictures are just simply amazing!

I scooted off to find something I’d wanted to for quite some time- the Dole Whip Pineapple Upsidedown Cake. As they say in Holland, “It tasted like an angel peed on my tongue”. Absolutely divine!

Glad my laptop screen needed cleaned. I just had to spend a few minutes wiping my soda off it!

Not perfect by ANY stretch of the imagination, but not too shabby for: dark, moving target, handheld, less-than-perfect location. There's always next year!

Yes...there is ALWAYS next year!

I simply ended up looking constipated. @pkondz , is that what you look like during your border crossings?

It does look a bit forced for sure! I think the key is to not think about it when they take the picture. Remember, Pkondz didn't get asked about constipation when he was distracted on his last border crossing!
LOL but the blond hair just makes this costume! I almost didn't recognize you.

Just as the parade ended I turned to go and a very familiar looking couple were standing there. It was the same couple I’d waited in line with for Alice hours earlier! Ha, out of thousands of people, what were the odds?!

Years ago, I actually ran into my neighbor when I was there. It was one of the times my aunt had taken me when I was 16. I was walking around where "It's a Small World" is and it freaked me out hearing someone say my name and seeing it was them.

And I made JUST IN TIME! Ray’s is open until 11:00 and I sauntered in at 10:55. I was super happy they were still serving up this scary great Party Burger!

This looks a little scary to me! Guess that is the point though, right!

One simply does not go to Mickey’s Party and NOT ride The Flagship Attraction.

I actually was thinking this. As I was scrolling through the pics above this statement, I was thinking "How did she not got to HM. That's just not even possible is it? How does one go to MNSSHP and not do HM. Thanks for not disappointing me! I was worried!

And that, my Wonderland Friends, was Steppe's Saunterings at Mickey's 2018 Halloween Bash. Now, here's one last trick or treat to get you out of this badly written hole:

BitesizedCandidArawana-small.gif

This needed an Epilepsy warning! HAHA *Jumps out of the Rabbit hole!*

Love new camera gear.

I'm signed up to go on a photography "field trip" in a couple of weekends and will get a bit more use out of some of that new gear. :)

Ah. Probably why it appeals about as much as the circus area at MK.

Yes, except there is the Barnstormer which is good for a giggle or two. :)

What could be worse?

A coloscopy?

:goodvibes

I can see myself sitting and chilling with a good friend. Just having a nice relaxing time.

That seldom happens at Disney for me. It would be a nice change of pace.

Well, sashay on over and sit a spell. Maybe someday our trips will line up again. :)

uh oh. That doesn't sound so great.

Although it does sound similar to practically every workplace everywhere.

Sadly, so true.

Yeah. New stuff? Cool! Taking out a beloved attraction.... you better put something good back in.

Pandora hit the mark.

Someone had to fall in. I knew I could count on you.

Oh, no. I didn't expect you to go out there. The hunt was in the park, I believe. I just googled and... there it was.

Very true, but your find makes it all the more strange that there isn't one on the marquis.

Nope. Again... just googled.

So at least I know the Hunt could be done with a xylophone then. ;)

I am in awe of your photography skills. These pictures are spectacular!

Aww, thanks! :) It's a hobby I am really enjoying! Loads more to come!

I had no idea about this....is the oil rig the frame for the tree/ So interesting!

This blogpost is a pretty good one for sharing some of the ToL trivia.

Agreed! The immersive level of detail and storytelling is what makes me love Disney so much!

And IMHO, Animal Kingdom does this best.

Thanks, Tammie!! I have 3 more to go and I think you'll enjoy those too!

I'll bet yours is very pretty and unique. Post a photo??

And yes, you do!

To be very honest, I don't think there is ANY legit reason to HAVE an expire date one them. There is 100% ZERO possibility it's suddenly going to turn poisonous or something, but someone somewhere though putting a date on them was necessary. Who knows... the ones at work ARE sterile so maybe the outside packaging disintegrates or?? No idea.

Alison.... I think you're safe!

I wanna hear about this part!!!!!!

I'll keep plugging away and someday I'll get there. :)

So you're saying the Train and Rafiki's Planet Watch are going away?

https://www.disboards.com/threads/rafikis-planet-watch-is-closing.3706622/

::yes:: Very nice pictures! I especially enjoyed the Zebra one.

Thanks, Alison!! :)

It was really nice getting the chance to meet you. You got way more out of the party than I did. I wasted so much time playing catch up because of the scooter incident that I really didn't get a chance to enjoy much . My grandkids were happy with the loot I brought home though.

I was so sad when you told me about your scooter dying during the party. :( That's terrible luck! But I"m glad you got home with some candy for the kiddos!

Oh yay, I was pretty excited when I signed on to the boards and realized you'd posted about your MNSSHP night. I'd been looking forward to hearing about it since you talked about it on your pre-trip updates!

I'm glad it didn't disappoint! :) Loads more photos and silly stories coming your way.

Love the costume! Steampunk Alice might be my new favorite Alice now. And I'm happy to hear you didn't have to endure a scary long line at the meet and greet.

Me too, I really wasn't going to spend much more than that, so if it'd been longer, I'd have passed altogether.

I think you got a great shot of the Headless Horseman. Especially with no base to keep the camera steady AND the subject in question being mobile. Even better, you didn't have to try again at the later parade, which left you time to grab that special burger and ride the party classic - HM.

I was glad it worked "enough" too. Time was running short for me with hunting down the Magic Shots and other stuff I wanted to do, so glad it worked out.

Overall, it sounded like a really fun party night. You got a lot of great pictures from the event and it seemed like you made sure to pause and enjoy the atmosphere.

It was! I'd still go every year if I could!

I'm happy to report that I did get to enjoy a few corn dog nuggets on my trip. I'm sad to report that my overall experience at Casey's was not the best.

Casey's can be crowded and the lines and confusion there can admittedly be a turn off. I'm bummed you saw the worst of it.

30 minutes is not bad at all. Much better than the ridiculous amount of time I spent in a character line. Won't spoil all the details now, they will eventually find their way into my TR. I really like your costume, definitely a good character meet choice.

Yeah... the Party is notorious for sucking in party-goers in long character lines. If you're not in line for the one you want by 4:00, you'll spend your whole evening doing that.

I was happy, despite my late arrival, that I did't wait more- as I told Alicia, I doubt I would have.

Sadly I did not get to experience the live characters on Pirates. Nor any of the special attractions add-ons this year.
I know I've made a couple negative comments now about the party. Not trying to bring the mood down, but I guess it's what I would call foreshadowing for my TR.

Oh no!! They were'n't there??!!

Not even they Puke Cups had their psycho overlay on? I'm becoming more than just a little sad for your Party experience!

It's not bad at all, and better than the ones I got. It's a tough picture, for the reasons you mention. But a very cool one if you get it.

I'll try again next year. Not sure I can do much better.

Absolutely, it's a must do! I did manage to ride Haunted Mansion at the party. It was late in the night and sadly Carlotta was not out there.

I caught her JUST in time. I rode it late in the party and by the time I rode and was off, she was gone.
