OFFICIAL 2018 Christmas & Holiday Time at DLR Superthread!!

Booked Breakfast with Santa at the Catal Restaurant for our departure day! It looks so fun! Anyone else done this? I’d never heard of it but someone put a link on a Disney FB page I’m on. Casey from Disneyland Daily has a great review on it.

We are going Nov. 30 ad Dec. 1. I am torn whether or not to purchase Maxpass. We are a family of 4. We used Maxpass last year. We were only in the parks for one day. I have to be honest, I thought I did a ton of research, but I still felt kinda lost using MP. I was just planning on doing paper FP this trip. I am used to being the FP runner and since we will NOT have hoppers this trip, I feel like I can totally handle that. We are on a budget and the extra money can go towards food. But I can't help thinking we might miss out on something if we don't use MP. Am I not thinking of other perks for MP? What would you do? Help!

I think that as the previous poster mentioned the 90 minute return time, ability to book MP from either park (or your hotel!), and the Photopass are all great reasons to get MP. How old are your kids? Would you need to purchase MP for everyone? I’m having to buy it for five people for three days so I feel that financial strain but I feel it’s so worth it!

Our family is not planning on using max pass this trip. But one person is going to purchase it just for photo pass.
We were going to do this, but I’m reading the suggestions now and wondering if we should get them for more people? We’ve got 2 babies and 5 adults going...we’ll do baby swap, so I’m considering 2 MPs and then work the baby swap?

Just under 3 weeks before i'm there for the opening of holidays + my birthday! Hubby and I are getting AP's again since I have two work trips in/near Anaheim next year. We fly in the night of the 8th and fly out the night of the 11th. Will be in the parks the 9th-11th. :yay:
yay! We’ll be there Saturday for all the Christmas decor!!

I would never go to the parks without MP now fwiw- there’s plenty of threads on here with MP info or ideas of how to really take advantage of it but the 90 mins wait instead of 120 mins (I set my phone timer lol) and the ease of getting a FP plus it actually has more availability then paper FP sets it apart for me as way beyond useful. I’m happy to try to help if you need some MP help but we use it every day of our 5 days as a must have and it really helps on crowded days/times. Plus the photo pass we always use anyway so an added bonus. It’s not a make or break for some families but it really does help make our trips especially if you have less park days then 5 to squeeze all the must do’s in. We even take afternoon nap/breaks and I get FP while we’re at our hotel for the evening- such a great thing!
I’d love some MP advice...can I pm you so I don’t hijack this thread? I’m trying to decide if all 5 adults will need them for our party with 2 babies...I’m hoping rider switch will be like having double the MPs?

It’s onoy a few more weeks!! I had our shirts made by a friend, so we all have black Disney shirts, but they all say something a little different...I will try to get pics to post! (No one outside this board would care! Lol!! ) my family understands my Disneyland craziness and just play along now ;).

I'm looking for Maxpass advice as well! Still trying to digest all the new info. We have 4 adults and 2 teens going.

My kids are 10 and 9. We are only getting one park per day tickets. I can't justify the extra cost for hoppers this time unfortunately. We normally stay at the parks all day and don't take hotel breaks now that they are older. My kids ride all the rides (hopefully my youngest will try Incredicoaster this trip. Only attraction he hasn't been on yet).

@millie0312 I would love MP tips and tricks too! I felt like last time we did ok, until mid day and then really couldn't get much else? Which I get that FP run out....but I see people talking about having stacked FP for the later evening hours...not sure how to do that? Or maybe I am just missing something. TIA!

I’ve only used MP once so I’m far from an expert but I think you really need to pay attention and book your next pass as soon as you can in order have them “stacked” for the evening.

I didn’t have the hang of it my first day either. I hope they don’t raise the price too much in the future because i can’t live without maxpass now.

We initially were going to get MP for just one day when we went in August but found it so great we used all 4 days for our group of 5. Some things I learned:

  • When you book a FP it will tell you when you can next have a pass. Pay attention. I noticed the morning if day 2 I was actually able to get a pass about every 30 minutes for a while. I haven't figured out why exactly but I am sure there is a reason. I
  • Set an alarm on your phone for the time you can get another FP.
  • Take a screen shot of your photopass code and send to others who aren't using app. That way if they have pictures taken, they can just present the screen shot and the photo will be saved to the account. I read a suggestion about saving that as well as your lock screen to simplify access but I found it annoying as I had to turn off my lock screen overlays like my clock.
  • Other in the group who don't have app can write down their ride photo numbers or take pictures of the number so you can add the ride photo number to the account later if your group splits.
  • If you have one person managing MP but want to split, simply take screen shots of the FP the other group will use and send them the screen shot. Works just like the scanning from the app.

The key is to pay attention to exactly when it tells you you can can get another one. You don’t have to use the one you have first. If you’ve started your day at opening and start booking you’ll start stacking them as the day goes as long and you reserved one every time your able to.

We’re going that Saturday, the opening weekend of the Christmas decorations!! It’ll definitely be crowded...
Can you give me some MP advice? There’ll be 7 of us, 5 adults and 2 babies (2 and 11months). I’m leaning towards buying 1 MP so we can get the photos...but now I’m thinking maybe we could buy 2 and use the baby swap? Do you think that would work? Or would it be worth it to get all 5? I’m thinking all the FP DL rides wouldn’t work for the babies..right? I’m trying to decide...I’d really appreciate advice! :)

I'm going on my annual sister Christmas trip Dec 3-6. So excited! This is our 11th year, I think. We always stay at GCH and we have certain must-do's but we love trying something new, also. Last year we got tickets for the Jazz Kitchen gingerbread house decorating. Wow!!! So fun!! Sadly, we'll miss it this year because it's the week after our trip. But we're going to try the afternoon tea at DLH! Does anyone know if they'll be doing a Christmas theme? They did Pixar this summer and are currently doing Halloween themed tea so I'm hoping! Last year, we bought elf dresses at Target and had so much fun wearing them around the resort. People would stop us and ask to get a picture with us, and little kids in the hotel would gasp and tell their parents that the elves were there :) It was nice because it felt like we were making people happy.

It may work! Try it for a day and see how it goes. Since you have to buy MP each day it’s adds some flexibility!

I think I found the answer to my own question... I see people have been commenting it’s available at rope drop and they have another batch at 5pm.

I’ve heard they sell out really quickly so it’s a rope drop for us next trip as we missed out last time - all for a donut :rotfl:
