Eat and drink till we drop! An Adults Only Trip! - Updated 12/30 & Completed

Dinner and more Drinks

We had a reservation at Morimoto Asia for dinner tonight. I had met up with a friend from college the weekend before we left and turns out that her husband, who is an architect, designed Morimoto Asia! How cool is that?!?

We headed over to the restaurant.

Morimoto is beautiful inside and def feels fancy.

We went and checked in and were taken to our table immediately. We were sat upstairs by those wooden windows in the picture above on the right side. It was this interesting "room".

If you look the tables just up against the side look like there is no railing. And when I sat down at first, I totally thought that there wasn't anything stopping you from falling off! But there was glass, thankfully.

Our waiter was great! WE asked for some recommendation on dinner and drinks. And he gave us some great options.

We started with drinks of course!

Shirayuri (White Lily)
sudachi shochu, calpico and yuzu served with a twist

Our waiter recommended it. And it was really good. I would def recommend someone trying it. It was sweet but not overly sweet. And I liked that it was a bunch of different things that you wouldn't get otherwise. I can't even describe what it tasted like...

Andy ended up getting the same thing. (I did not order 2 right away!)

We decided to order more on the dim sum side of the menu and share a few things. They kind of brought them out as they were ready.

First was the Tuna Tartare

Hamachi Tartare
dashi soy with crispy shallot, chive and wasabi

This was really good. I do prefer by tuna in bigger chunks, but the dash soy was really good and the crispy shallots were a nice touch.

Next came out the Pork Belly Buns

Kakuni Pork Bao - 2 pcs
steamed buns, braised pork belly, lettuce, spicy mayo

These were my favorite! The pork belly was nice and soft, melt in your mouth even. I am a sucker for spicy mayo as well. And the steamed buns were good. I do always find the consistency is so strange but good all at the same time. But these were great.

And then lastly, they brought out the Ribs!

Morimoto Spare Ribs
half-rack of pork ribs, cilantro, hoisin sweet chili glaze

These were Andy's favorite by far! They were so different! They were crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. I was getting full by now, and could only muster eating 2 ribs, I left the rest for Andy.

Dinner was amazing. And we decided that there was enough on the menu that we could bring the girls here sometime as well. And I know I have seen other trip reports that they have cute chop sticks for the kids and stuff.

After dinner, we wanted to shop a little more and I had another drink that I wanted to grab while we were here. I wanted to check up the walk up bar at Homecomin' that @pepperandchips informed me of. We had a bad first go around of this place, it was rainy and everyone was crabby. But I loved my drink that night and Melinda informed me that they had a take out window!

So, we headed over there next. We walked slowly and just enjoyed the cool evening. It was a short walk over and Andy suggested we sit at the little bar area they had there, as there was only one other couple in the area. Which allowed me to get my drink in a fun copper cup!

Moonshine Mash
Watermelon-infused moonshine, fresh watermelon, lime juice and simple syrup

I love this drink. It is soooo good. I highly recommend it. The moonshine is very smooth and not alchol-y

Andy went with an Iced Tea Moonshine.

Sweet Tea Shine
Sweet tea, fresh-squeezed lemon and moonshine

He said this was good as well. His had more of a boozy taste to it.

These were in big premixed in big dispensers. And you could get them in these squeeze bottles with straws. Very white trash like and awsome. If you were looking to get your bang for your buck this would be a good way to go. There were 4 choices,
Moonshine Margarita, Blue Hooch,
Sweet Tea Shine, Rumshine Punch

We sat here and enjoyed our drinks and just let our dinner settle. We talked about the plan for the next couple days and people watched. There was a couple with 2 young kids at the bar. They had drinks and then it looked like they had dinner packed up to-go. I said that is what we should have done that rainy night.

We finished our drinks but I wanted to try one other drink. So, I ordered it to go! Hey, I had no kids to worry about!

Blueberry Bliss
Blueberry vodka, fresh blueberry puree, agave syrup and fresh squeezed lime juice

This might have been better than my Watermelon Mash! It was really good!

We settled the tab and headed out to shop a little before heading back to the room. It was getting late and us wild and crazy folks were getting tired!

It had gotten more crowded while we were busy eating and drinking. But we had a few stores to hit. We stopped in Basin, a first for us actually. Gwen has now found a new love for bath bombs. So, I wanted to get Mickey ones for them. Man that store is soo so smelly! We got a few options there. Andy wanted to check out the Star Wars store. He was disappointed in the mens shirts and hats.

After some shopping, we headed over to the pick up area for an uber. I was texting with Gwen's temporary mom for the night. Gwen was having trouble falling asleep but she just told me that she was finally asleep. All was well, with the girls, thankfully.

It was a lovely relaxed evening. Our uber showed up and we were back in the room by 11:00.

Up next we hit Magic Kingdom in the morning!

Both of your drinks sound really good and I'd probably like them.....................we just really don't like Homecomin'. But now I may have to consider just a visit to the bar or the walk up window when we're in DS.

Glad you enjoyed Morimoto, too, and overall had a great 1st "kid-free" day! Must have been a tad stressful when you heard Gwen couldn't fall asleep though. The first time we left the boys for a Disney trip Chris wasn't so happy, and even though he was with my mom I felt bad when he'd call us and say he missed us :( However as you now know it's SO worth doing adults only trips!

I'm here! What an awesome start to your trip. Of course any vacation that starts with beer at the airport and ends with moonshine drinks to go is my kinda trip :drinking1

Still amazed you all pulled of a no kid trip to Disney. I think I'm going to Tell Casey I'm traveling for work for our May girls trip :scared1:

You def should. It was super easy, it was a quiet night when we were there, but I am sure they keep part of that area open for the specific purpose of grabbing the drink and going. And there drinks are really good, even if you aren't a fan of the food.

It really was. Morgan had slept at her friends house a couple times, so I wasn't worried about her. But Gwen has only slept at family's houses and she still gets homesick sometimes even with that. So, this was a first for her. Desperate times... But she thankfully did fine. But there is more good night drama to come in the trip. o_O

I knew you would approve!

They really took it pretty well, to be honest. I did present it as we were going to do most of the things that they don't like to do, like shopping and eating around EPCOT.

Best feature in the room!
Right?! Glad I am not alone. Sadly, it took me till the second day to think to take the extras to take home. (it also took me till the last day to notice that there was decaf and regular. The one morning I felt tired still and I think I used the decaf by mistake. Oops!

That sounds really tasty! Did you pick up on the watermelon flavor at all? Watermelon is hit or miss for me.
I didn't taste any watermelon flavor at all. The Tangerine was more promeniate for sure.

Popping over from your other TR. looking forward to reading about your food and wine adventures
Thanks for following along! Food & Wine booths to come in our next days' adventures!

I know it's convenient to the pool which would have worked better if you had the girls (and the pool is closed now I believe anyway) and all sections have a bus stop, but yeah a hike to El Centro.
Yes, the main pool was closed, which was a bit of a bummer. I was looking forward to sitting in the hot tub in the evening, but it was closed as well. The room location probably would have felt better if it was open. Is there a pool bar right near it? These larger resorts seriously need soda machines in each building.

I wish you could come! But wait, we're doing it yearly?? Ok :thumbsup2:thumbsup2
I told Melinda, that I have faith that you guys will have a good time and want to do it again. And then hopefully I can come next time!.

It was freaking HOT when we went last month and everyone is still reporting it's ridiculously hot this month; but being kid-free makes it all O-K ;)
It was soooooo hot, it was silly.

Love the Hangar Bar! Your drinks and appetizer = :drinking1 (I totally thought there was an eating emoji but I couldn't find it....) A good start to the night!
Thanks. Every time I look for an emoji I can't find it or it doesn't exist. You would think I would remember where the whole 3 or 4 ones I use are. But nope.

Joining in as well! You guys are making me even more excited for our anniversary trip in July!
YEAH! Thanks for following along! Anniversary trip in July will be fun!!!

We started with 2 cold beers!

Perfect way to start the kid-free vacay!

Only 2! So, exciting and a little bitter sweet at the same time.
Aww, I thought the same thing because I love that you take this picture every trip!!!

Sounds like everything was absolutely tasty on your first night!! I especially liked the drinks you ordered (everywhere!) All new options for me to add to my list! LOL

We finished up with a half or so to spare, and we kind of sat down in the living room and looked at each other like, now what!

Ah, long-term married life...

We split Crab Fries and a Chicken Sandwich from Chickie and Pete's. We live in the greater Philadelphia area, and crab fries are a big thing. They are basically just french fries with Old Bay Seasoning on them and served with warm cheese sauce.

My son and I tried crab fries for the first time at a Phillies game a couple of years ago. I thought they were simultaneously overrated and underrated, if that makes any sense. Overrrated, because they cost $13 at a Phillies game and are literally just fries with Old Bay. Underrated, because they were strangely addictive!

I managed to pick a good line, as the people next to us seemed like they hadn't actually signed up for magical express and then the other line had folks who I am pretty sure didn't speak english.

Nice! I pick the wrong line every single time, no matter where I go.

Man this place was under some major construction still. It wasn't horrible and we never heard any of it. But driving up didn't have that magical feel to it.

Agreed on all counts.

I suggested we grab a drink over at Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar.

That's the one place I wanted to see and didn't get to check out.

So, we headed over and went in... And it was still half closed. Boo.

Yeah...not much to see there.

I had met up with a friend from college the weekend before we left and turns out that her husband, who is an architect, designed Morimoto Asia! How cool is that?!?

Very cool indeed! He did a great job.

Hey, I had no kids to worry about!

That's such a good feeling!

Joining in! I love the idea of an adults only trip. I'm not sure how upset our girls would be though if I actually did it.
I had really wanted to get to Jock Lindsay's on my August trip but it never worked out. The drinks there look great.

I try to start every vacation this way, if possible, with or without kids...

I especially liked the drinks you ordered (everywhere!) All new options for me to add to my list! LOL
There is always a list! right?
Ah, long-term married life...
Nailed it!

We were talking about how Crab Fries are so strange, you say the name and you think there will be actual crab on them or something. Nope. It's the cheese for me that makes them so addicting.

That's the one place I wanted to see and didn't get to check out.
It was actually really nice, it wasn't busy and early in the evening I would have totally been ok with bringing the girls there.

Joining in! I am doing Homecomin this December and I will definitely check those drinks out!
:welcome: Def! The Watermelon was my favorite but that Blueberry one was really good as well. I feel like you can't go wrong with most of there drinsk.

I'm here! The Hangar Bar is a MUSt for us on almost every trip. As for the Moonshine Mash at Homecomin"...My FAV!!!! Love it!!!!
:welcome: It was like hitting all of the things I wanted to do. Well, not all of them. My stomach couldn't handle anymore.

Joining in! I love the idea of an adults only trip. I'm not sure how upset our girls would be though if I actually did it.
I had really wanted to get to Jock Lindsay's on my August trip but it never worked out. The drinks there look great.
:welcome: Our girls took it surprisingly well. I thought they would have been ALOT more upset by it. But I really tried to stress the fact, that we were going to do lots of eating. Which my oldest HATES restaurants. You should def try it some time!

Day Two: A Magical Morning in Magic Kingdom

After our night out in Disney Springs, we were ready to hit the parks! The night before was super nice, as I usually plan for us to go to Disney Springs on our arrival day, but it usually doesn't happen because the girls just aren't into it, or they are tired or whatever the excuse of the day it.

We were headed to Magic Kingdom this morning. There was EMH but we decided to skip that and shoot for "regular" park open. As we didn't want to get there too late but also really didn't want to get up at the crack of dawn. Cause, you know we didn't have kids!

We checked the app for bus times and headed down to the bus stop. We didn't wait long at all. It was great. We were inside the Magic Kingdom at 9:15. Not too shabby!

Scarecrow
I snapped this pic as we walked into the hub area for the first time with no children. It was def strange feeling! Andy said that we have never been up on the Train Platform. So, we looked at each other and said let's go!

Magic Kingdom
We hiked up the steps and took in the view.

Train Station Area
The whole thing is really beautiful up there. The view, the area.

Main Street USA

There was another couple up there, and Andy asked them to take our picture.
Magic Kingdom_Us
There was a bit of a shadow, oh well. We returned the favor and took there picture. Then headed into the park.

When I made our fast passes, it was only 2 weeks before, so I couldn't get 7DMT. But you know what was kind of surprising to me, we couldn't get Big Thunder Mountain or Splash Mountain either. Boo. So, we decided to head over to BTM first.

Country Bear
We saw the Country Bears out. This baby was NOT liking the bear. I found it kind of funny. And I have to admit, I am kind of with the baby... The Country Bears scare me just a tiny bit.

We walked over to BTM and it had a half hour wait, I think. Maybe more already, And our first fast pass for Haunted Mansion was in less time than that. So, we decided NOT to wait as we def did NOT want to miss Haunted Mansion. (Gwen HATES this ride and refuses to ride). So usually Morgan gets to go twice with each parent.

Haunted Mansion
So, we backtracked to MH and used our fast passes. Of course at this time of day, I am not entirely sure we needed them, but that was alright.

This was fun as usual, and fun that we got to ride together on it.
Horseless Carriage

After our ride, we checked out Mori Mentos, as Gwen even refuses to go in the store! OYE!

It was sooooo hot! Already! I swear, that should have been the theme for this trip. And it really hadn't cooled down at home too much, so it wasn't like whn it is the dead of winter and you are just glad to not be in the cold just yet.

We checked out the times for the Muppet Shows. We have tried and tried to get the girls into the Muppets, but they just don't seem to like it. I snapped a picture of the times, as there wasn't one soon enough to wait. I debated getting a candied bacon skewer but decided against is, as I was saving up for Food & Wine.

Andy suggested getting a Dole Whip since it was so hot out. And then I remembered that they added the new orange soft serve. So, we decided we needed to try that instead.

Citrus Swirl Float
This was soooooo good!!! I loved it. The new orange soft serve is more creamsicle tasting. And so good. And I loved the orange soda with it. And with the heat, it was very refreshing. It def hit the spot!

Citrus Swirl Float_02
We split the one float and sat in the shade.

Once we were done, it was time for our next fast pass, Pirates! The girls both go on this ride wiht us. But Gwen usually complains about it. And MOrgan def doesn't love it.

Love by Ariella Saucier, on Flickr
As we were walking over, we noticed a plane spelling something out. Andy made us wait for it to finish. It did give us this photo! (I think this is when I started texting a fellow diser to see if we could meet up)

Pirates
On to PIRATES! I didn't take any photos, I tried to just enjoy the rides this trip.

After Pirates, we high tailed it back over to catch the Muppets show. I LOVED it! As a kid I loved the muppets and to see real puppets was really cool.
Muppets
And it was nice to watch it without the girls complaining that it was BOOOOORRRRRINNNNGGGG.

After the muppets we talked about what else we wanted to do in Magic Kingdom before heading over to EPCOT. I had fast passes for Space Mountain but not till 1:00. And I was thinking we needed to skip that, as I was getting HUNGRY! We decided to go wait standby for Big Thunder and see how long that took and then decide what to do about Space Mountain.

Big Thunder Mountain was posted at 30 minutes, but I think it took maybe 20 to get to the front.
Big Thunder Mountain
We took this pic on the ride. And Andy posted it later that Fun Fact, our kids were in school right now! Ha! Too funny.

(We did find out at some point that the girls were successfully dropped off at school)

It was about 11:50 and I said that I didn't want to wait till 1:00 for the fast pass. We did think about waiting in line for 7DMT and that probably would have take all of the time till Space. But I was ready for some food! So, we headed over to Space to ride it standby instead.

Haunted Mansion View
I snapped this picture on our way over there. It was a beautiful day, just HOT!

We waited FOREVER for Space Mountain! We probably should have either skipped it all together or done the 7DMT plan. Oh well.

Space Mountain
Once we got to the load area, Andy noticed this guy who was soooo tall. In the hallway leading right before this, he was literally a couple inches from the ceiling. I tried to take a picture of him but once I could, it wasn't as dramatic. Seriously, when he got into the rocket, his knees were at this ears! With his feet all the way in. It couldn't have been comfortable. And I really don't know how they let him ride, the lap bar didn't even go over his legs.

After our ride into Space, we headed out of the park. And headed to EPCOT!!! We had food to try and someone to hopefully meet up with!

Andy suggested getting a Dole Whip since it was so hot out. And then I remembered that they added the new orange soft serve. So, we decided we needed to try that instead.

Citrus Swirl Float

That's on my list for Magic Kingdom! And yes, I keep a WDW snack list...

Muppets
And it was nice to watch it without the girls complaining that it was BOOOOORRRRRINNNNGGGG.
You know how "Tink" did that hat scavenger hunt in Epcot? Maybe she needs to do one for the other parks too. A way to get the girls wanting to do some of the things they normally don't!

Big Thunder Mountain
We took this pic on the ride. And Andy posted it later that Fun Fact, our kids were in school right now! Ha! Too funny.
Good thing Morgan doesn't have facebook yet!

I snapped this pic as we walked into the hub area for the first time with no children. It was def strange feeling! Andy said that we have never been up on the Train Platform. So, we looked at each other and said let's go!
Awesome! I've never been up there either--it looks gorgeous.

This was fun as usual, and fun that we got to ride together on it.
Yay that you got to ride together! Glad you weren't missing your girls *tooo* much :)

Once we were done, it was time for our next fast pass, Pirates! The girls both go on this ride wiht us. But Gwen usually complains about it. And MOrgan def doesn't love it.
Ah, I remember my parents fondly talking about how nice it was to do things without us kids constantly complaining. Glad you guys are making the most of it :)

After Pirates, we high tailed it back over to catch the Muppets show. I LOVED it! As a kid I loved the muppets and to see real puppets was really cool.
Isn't it great?! I agree that it's really cool to see real puppets. One of my favorite shows. :)

Sounds like a fantastic morning at the Magic Kingdom! Can't wait to hear about Epcot :)
