Dinner and more Drinks
We had a reservation at Morimoto Asia for dinner tonight. I had met up with a friend from college the weekend before we left and turns out that her husband, who is an architect, designed Morimoto Asia! How cool is that?!?
We headed over to the restaurant.
Morimoto is beautiful inside and def feels fancy.
We went and checked in and were taken to our table immediately. We were sat upstairs by those wooden windows in the picture above on the right side. It was this interesting "room".
If you look the tables just up against the side look like there is no railing. And when I sat down at first, I totally thought that there wasn't anything stopping you from falling off! But there was glass, thankfully.
Our waiter was great! WE asked for some recommendation on dinner and drinks. And he gave us some great options.
We started with drinks of course!
Shirayuri (White Lily)
sudachi shochu, calpico and yuzu served with a twist
Our waiter recommended it. And it was really good. I would def recommend someone trying it. It was sweet but not overly sweet. And I liked that it was a bunch of different things that you wouldn't get otherwise. I can't even describe what it tasted like...
Andy ended up getting the same thing. (I did not order 2 right away!)
We decided to order more on the dim sum side of the menu and share a few things. They kind of brought them out as they were ready.
First was the Tuna Tartare
Hamachi Tartare
dashi soy with crispy shallot, chive and wasabi
This was really good. I do prefer by tuna in bigger chunks, but the dash soy was really good and the crispy shallots were a nice touch.
Next came out the Pork Belly Buns
Kakuni Pork Bao - 2 pcs
steamed buns, braised pork belly, lettuce, spicy mayo
These were my favorite! The pork belly was nice and soft, melt in your mouth even. I am a sucker for spicy mayo as well. And the steamed buns were good. I do always find the consistency is so strange but good all at the same time. But these were great.
And then lastly, they brought out the Ribs!
Morimoto Spare Ribs
half-rack of pork ribs, cilantro, hoisin sweet chili glaze
These were Andy's favorite by far! They were so different! They were crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. I was getting full by now, and could only muster eating 2 ribs, I left the rest for Andy.
Dinner was amazing. And we decided that there was enough on the menu that we could bring the girls here sometime as well. And I know I have seen other trip reports that they have cute chop sticks for the kids and stuff.
After dinner, we wanted to shop a little more and I had another drink that I wanted to grab while we were here. I wanted to check up the walk up bar at Homecomin' that @pepperandchips informed me of. We had a bad first go around of this place, it was rainy and everyone was crabby. But I loved my drink that night and Melinda informed me that they had a take out window!
So, we headed over there next. We walked slowly and just enjoyed the cool evening. It was a short walk over and Andy suggested we sit at the little bar area they had there, as there was only one other couple in the area. Which allowed me to get my drink in a fun copper cup!
Moonshine Mash
Watermelon-infused moonshine, fresh watermelon, lime juice and simple syrup
I love this drink. It is soooo good. I highly recommend it. The moonshine is very smooth and not alchol-y
Andy went with an Iced Tea Moonshine.
Sweet Tea Shine
Sweet tea, fresh-squeezed lemon and moonshine
He said this was good as well. His had more of a boozy taste to it.
These were in big premixed in big dispensers. And you could get them in these squeeze bottles with straws. Very white trash like and awsome. If you were looking to get your bang for your buck this would be a good way to go. There were 4 choices,
Moonshine Margarita, Blue Hooch,
Sweet Tea Shine, Rumshine Punch
We sat here and enjoyed our drinks and just let our dinner settle. We talked about the plan for the next couple days and people watched. There was a couple with 2 young kids at the bar. They had drinks and then it looked like they had dinner packed up to-go. I said that is what we should have done that rainy night.
We finished our drinks but I wanted to try one other drink. So, I ordered it to go! Hey, I had no kids to worry about!
Blueberry Bliss
Blueberry vodka, fresh blueberry puree, agave syrup and fresh squeezed lime juice
This might have been better than my Watermelon Mash! It was really good!
We settled the tab and headed out to shop a little before heading back to the room. It was getting late and us wild and crazy folks were getting tired!
It had gotten more crowded while we were busy eating and drinking. But we had a few stores to hit. We stopped in Basin, a first for us actually. Gwen has now found a new love for bath bombs. So, I wanted to get Mickey ones for them. Man that store is soo so smelly! We got a few options there. Andy wanted to check out the Star Wars store. He was disappointed in the mens shirts and hats.
After some shopping, we headed over to the pick up area for an uber. I was texting with Gwen's temporary mom for the night. Gwen was having trouble falling asleep but she just told me that she was finally asleep. All was well, with the girls, thankfully.
It was a lovely relaxed evening. Our uber showed up and we were back in the room by 11:00.
Up next we hit Magic Kingdom in the morning!
