She's On Top of the World, a September 2018 TR at Copper Creek Villas and Cabins (Completed 12/20)

Love Allie's face on People Mover. I get that face often from my kids if we steer them in a direction they don't agree with. All part of the Disney fun. LOL.

I love your WL pictures. I think that the courtyard trees are getting too big. They really block the gorgeous view.
Yeah, it is a tough compromise. We were surprised at how much the trees at the end of the North wing by the boat dock were cleared out in the last year. There's definitely some natural variation.

I keep looking for armadillos and have never seen one. I guess I need to look in the bushes next time.
Our first time was walking back from the buses late at night during our honeymoon, and it was walking right across the main walkway to the arcade. We couldn't believe our eyes, and thought we might just be really tired. Then I saw one down by the main pool a couple of years ago, and now my friend at Geyser Point. They're out there...

I love to eat lunch here because the braised pork is delicious. We ate here last month and it was really nice to sit in an air conditioned restaurant. It was really hot out.
It can be really good food, and the atmosphere is hard to beat. We like having a mid day ADR to cool off, and BOG is as good as a Table Service in that regard.

I would be a little sad, too, if the kids didn't want to participate. This show is adorable and I really enjoyed watching our grandchildren participate. :)
Yeah, Allie wasn't feeling it that day, and we knew better than to push her. Oh well, we all still had fun.

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for armadillos when we're there! Definitely don't see those in Maryland!
We've never seen them in CA either! They seem to do a good job avoiding people, but they're there.

I got both my kids that meatloaf because they love meatloaf at home and it is just not good. :crazy2:
Yeah, and it's a shame because they're so cute. That's about all they're good for, a pretty picture. The broccoli tasted way better than the meatloaf, which is sad..

Love Allie's face on People Mover. I get that face often from my kids if we steer them in a direction they don't agree with. All part of the Disney fun. LOL.
Yeah, she felt she was robbed of a second chance to ride 7DMT. She got to pick Carousel of Progress though, and she would get another chance to ride 7DMT, so all was not lost.

Your pics of WL are making me miss it so much! I loved staying there this summer
Oh I know, us too! It is my favorite place anywhere, and I could take pictures of it all day. We can't wait to be back.

It's a shame BOG was a disappointment. We weren't thrilled with it in July of 2017. We felt the food quality was really lacking, but the atmosphere is still AMAZING!

I am really enjoying your report. I have a 7 yo and 22 mo and we are going to WL for our first Disney vacation in a little over a month. Love your pictures - getting me super excited for our trip.

I have a question about your stroller use. I noticed you are using a double stroller - how was it on the bus/boat? Enough space for the double stroller on the bus/boat?

We don't have a double stroller and at home the 7 yo doesn't use stroller anymore, but I really do think he will probably need one in Disney. So I'm trying to decide if I should bring our single Britax stroller and rent a single Disney stroller for the 7 yo at the parks. Or just rent the City Mini double stroller from Kingdom Strollers (we won't bring our own stroller so no stroller for the airport for the toddler - but I think it'll be okay as it's a direct flight).

It wasn't that disappointing for most of us, Allie just has bad luck here. We still enjoyed our food, and loved the atmosphere.

Great! Thanks for joining in, and we are glad that you are enjoying the report. You should love WL, it is even better in person than the pictures show. Your trip is almost here, we're excited for you.

Ahh yes, the age old stroller dilemma. We debated about what to do this time, but it worked out well. We brought our City Mini double, and a Baby Jogger Tour that we used at the airport and whenever we wanted to be more mobile. For a double the City Mini really does pretty well on the boats and buses. One of us handles it and the other takes the kids. As long as there isn't too much underneath it it folds up nicely, and we can usually keep it out of the way on the bus. The big boats are no issue at all (since you can push it right on), and the smaller boats are ok, you just have to fold it. I like that it is narrow enough for most doorways, so it isn't too bad to push.
We got a good deal on our City Mini Double by buying it used, and since it travels for free it works out for us to bring it. Having used it for a few trips now we are definitely money ahead over rentals, and it was close after one trip.
We aren't huge fans of the in park stroller rentals, but that would be an option for you if you find you need it. We do a lot of travel outside of the parks, and we use the strollers for that. We really enjoy checking out the resorts and Disney Springs as much as the parks, and we find the strollers to be useful there after a long day.
In your case we'd probably go with renting (or buying used) for a double as long as your 7 year old would be interested in riding in it. Ours really likes the double, and likes riding with her little brother. When we took the single, she wanted to ride when he was walking, and he didn't like that so he wanted to ride, and then the competition was on... We still haven't done the airport without a stroller, since it doesn't cost anything to bring one and he is often asleep while we travel through Orlando. We have direct flights too, but navigating MCO can still be a bit of a trek.
Good luck and feel free to ask any more questions that you may have.

I can vouch for the brand BabyJogger. We have a City Mini GT Double and absolutely love it. Our 9 year old still wishes she could get in it on long walks, but unfortunately for her the stroller is now being used by her 4 year and 2 year old little sisters.

Yes, we love BabyJogger. We have five different models of their strollers and love them. They are way nicer to use and fold than other brands we've had. Our City Mini single is our workhorse and has been through both kids. It might be hard to give that one up when the time comes.

When we left off, we had just arrived back at WL after a morning in MK. It was a relatively quick stop though, because we wanted to head over to AK to check it out for a potential future stay before out dinner reservation at Jiko. In the room we changed clothes and grabbed some things before meeting back up with Jon and brandy and heading downstairs.

We were doing great on time and got on a bus headed to the Magic Kingdom to make our transfer to AKL.

To kick off the journey, we arrived at the bus stop at 4:05. We figured we'd go to MK, and get an AKL bus from there.

The sign said 4:09, but soon switched to 4:14. The bus arrived then, but headed over to Fort Wilderness to pick up on the way to MK. (This is something to watch out for in the afternoons, it isn't the nice 5 minute direct trip you get in the morning.)

We got to Fort Wilderness at 4:20. On the way back we saw deer, which was neat.

We didn't get to MK until 4:35, and walked straight to an AKL bus that arrived at 4:41 and left at 4:48 after loading two ECVs. We had lots of traffic leaving MK at this time, and didn't get past the parking gate until 5:02.

We got to Kidani at 5:14, and finally Jambo at 5:20. We had planned to get off at Kidani and walk around, but we figured we didn't have time before our 5:45 reservation, so we saw it from the bus.

It always seems to be an adventure when we go to AKL but I was hoping this trip nothing extraordinary would happen. LUCKILY we were still running early for our ADR just not early enough to see Kidani before dinner.

We did have some time to walk around the Jambo lobby, and watched a guy doing wood carving and then went out to see animals from the balcony.

It's such a beautiful resort and we actually contemplated doing a split stay here for our next trip.

I thought that was going to be the plan, and while everybody enjoyed seeing the animals, we started to question the idea of this split stay while we were there. We rely on buses, and just haven't had the best luck in the past getting to and from there, even to AK.

But it was time for dinner so we headed downstairs...

We walked right in to Jiko, and Marshall was in a particularly lively mood.

In true Marshall fashion he took off running into the restaurant, probably one of the most embarrassing parental moments I've had, right up there with Allie peeing on Pirates of the Caribbean when she was 4.

He quickly made friends with our waiter Adam, and we were glad to see the restaurant mostly empty. It was funny chasing him into what arguably is the nicest WDW restaurant we've eaten at. They let us park the stroller at a nearby table (indicating that it wouldn't be too busy) and we corralled the kids between us.

Dinner started with a cold tea service. It was delicious tea, I wish I remembered what it was but it was really good. Both kids even liked it.

While it was great, the cups were small and I started to wonder if we'd be able to order Cokes or if I'd be popping over to Mara with our mugs.

Fortunately it was just the start, and he came back and took drink orders along with our entree choices. I went with the steak, while Melissa chose a beef roast, with both of us figuring that we could share.

When dinner got there I didn't really want to share, it was amazingly delicious, I loved my dish.

It was. My steak was good, and wound up being the second best steak of the trip, but hers was super yummy, which makes the fact she shared it with me even nicer.

After the meal, Allie really wanted dessert and she had been well behaved so we went ahead and ordered her the paint your own brownie with ice cream. I knew we were starting to get short on time, but she really wanted it.

I checked my watch and we were exactly an hour away from when we were supposed to be at Yacht Club for our fireworks cruise. No big deal though because we were going to take a Minnie Van over there.

Well, by the time we got done with the dessert, got our check, visited the restroom and got upstairs it was 7:15 when we requested the Minnie Van. That's when I was met with this screen:

It stayed that way for another 10 minutes, meaning that it was now 7:25, and we were supposed to be at Beach Club by 7:45.

I considered taking a bus to HS and running from there, but we didn't have enough time.

I had formulated that the boys and Allie could take a regular taxi and I could just hop on a bus and head back to the resort if it didn't have a carseat.

Brandy asked the valet about getting a Taxi, and right at that moment a taxi van pulled up. Not only was he available with a big enough van for us, he had a car seat for Marshall.

Melissa installed the car seat in record time, and we were all in the taxi by 7:29. The ride to Yacht club was quick, and we arrived there at 7:39. The cost was only $15, but we gave the driver a nice tip for saving our night.

I can't believe it was the perfect van with enough seats and a carseat! It was a questionable carseat but under the circumstances it would do.

We soon met up with Grandpa Jim and Grandma Nancy (who had dinner at Disney Springs), and then went out to the boat dock.

We were actually a couple minutes early which let our adrenaline calm down a bit before it was time to get on a boat.

When it was time to meet our Captain we were glad to see it was Captain Ron again.

We grabbed life jackets for the kids and went to the boat.

We were pleasantly surprised that the cruise included a trip around the resorts and over to Hollywood Studios before entering the world showcase lagoon.

He was incredibly informative. And Marsh loved riding on the boat and made himself at home.

As we were discussing the Swan and Dolphin statues, and how the “Dolphin Fish” looks more like a carp, Marshall chimed in with “It’s a sleeping duck with a pineapple on him and he’s eating it.”

That makes way more sense then calling it the Dolphin.

We were all still pretty full from dinner but we enjoyed drinks while we cruised around and waved to the people on the Boardwalk.

Captain Ron is practically a legend. Everyone seemed to be excited to see him.

We tied the boats up just after the bridge to France and we had the front row seats we wanted for over a year. Captain Ron gave us a fact sheet that he typed up himself about Illuminations. We also noticed that he had a blue name tag, indicating that he had been recognized for excellence by his peers.

We got lots of pictures as the show went on, and everyone had a ball.

It was an incredible view and we are totally spoiled for watching it any other way.

I totally agree, and was writing that same thing. It was the perfect view.

After the show was over we headed straight back to the Yacht Club dock, and thanked Captain Ron and said our goodbyes.

We stopped at Hurricane Hanna’s but this time it was actually closed so we went over to Beach Club Marketplace for mug refills.
I also wanted to pick up a sweatshirt that I had found at Disney Springs.

When we left there we headed to the buses, getting there at 9:55. The sign showed a MK bus at 10:00, and it showed up by 10:02 and we got to MK at 10:20. Grandma and Grandpa headed for a WL bus while the rest of us decided to go for a Monorail ride.

I forgot that we had all the leftover snacks stuffed in our backpack, which made for a longer than normal security check, and some hungry security guards.

Since it was getting late we decided not to stop at each of the resorts so we wouldn’t have to do security at each. We just rode it around once then got off at the Contemporary.

We got there about 11:00 and since most of the shops were closed we filled our mugs and got ready to head to the boat. Allie needed a potty break which took a bit, and we got to the boat dock at 11:28, which was just in time for the last boat of the evening back to WL.

That was a first for us but we made it and made our way home to the lodge. We had some packing to do because we’d be moving rooms the next morning.

I didn’t even go back out once we got to the room. With our packing cubes we were able to pack up pretty easily. It was sad to be thinking about leaving the room we loved, but everyone was excited to be moving to a cabin.

Find out how our moving day went in the next update.

To kick off the journey, we arrived at the bus stop at 4:05. We figured we'd go to MK, and get an AKL bus from there.
We had a journey like this back in March of 2017 when we were going to AKL for dinner at Boma. We thought it would take 45 minutes, tops and it took about 1 1/2 hours.

We got to Fort Wilderness at 4:20. On the way back we saw deer, which was neat.
Our bus driver was kind enough to slow down when she saw deer and point them out to us. I enjoyed that part.

We got to Kidani at 5:14, and finally Jambo at 5:20. We had planned to get off at Kidani and walk around, but we figured we didn't have time before our 5:45 reservation, so we saw it from the bus.
We had gotten off at Kidani on an earlier trip and the lobby isn't very exciting.

I went with the steak, while Melissa chose a beef roast, with both of us figuring that we could share.
Your food looks delicious. I've heard good things about Jiko.

Brandy asked the valet about getting a Taxi, and right at that moment a taxi van pulled up. Not only was he available with a big enough van for us, he had a car seat for Marshall.
We always seem to get the large van-taxi when we order a Mears cab. Your cost of $17 was much cheaper than a Minnie van, too. :)

That makes way more sense then calling it the Dolphin.
It never did look like a dolphin to me.

It was an incredible view and we are totally spoiled for watching it any other way.
Your Illuminations cruise looks like a lot of fun. I didn't know that they went past the resorts and DHS, too. The rumor is that they are ending Illuminations and bringing out a new show next year. So it is a good thing you saw it now. :)

we got to the boat dock at 11:28, which was just in time for the last boat of the evening back to WL
You got lucky on that one. :)

Yeah, we've had a few of those, and that's enough to keep us from stating there for now. We still like to visit, and will try to head over there from AK next time. (Although we've had that take over 30 minutes before).

Our bus driver was kind enough to slow down when she saw deer and point them out to us. I enjoyed that part.
Yeah, that's neat when they do that. The deer there always impress me.

We had gotten off at Kidani on an earlier trip and the lobby isn't very exciting.
We have walked around there before, and while it is nothing compared to the Jambo lobby we kind of liked it. We wanted to show Jon and Brandy since that is where we'd probably stay since we could get a dedicated two bedroom there. Oh well, it won't be where we stay next trip.

Your food looks delicious. I've heard good things about Jiko.
We enjoyed it. The food was very good, and it had a nice fancy atmosphere without being stuffy. We'd definitely go back.

We always seem to get the large van-taxi when we order a Mears cab. Your cost of $17 was much cheaper than a Minnie van, too. :)
Yes, we were super happy, and the fact he showed up at just the right time was perfect. We really appreciated it, and he got a nice tip.

It never did look like a dolphin to me.
Captain Ron explained that to us, it is supposed to be a "Dolphinfish", which is also known as Dorado and Mahi Mahi. The statue still looks more like a carp to me.

Your Illuminations cruise looks like a lot of fun. I didn't know that they went past the resorts and DHS, too. The rumor is that they are ending Illuminations and bringing out a new show next year. So it is a good thing you saw it now. :)
Yes, we are glad we got in before the end of the show. It was just perfect, we are so glad we got to do it.

You got lucky on that one. :)
Yeah, we knew we'd be cutting it close, and sure didn't want to have to walk back over to MK to get a WL bus.

Can't wait to hear all about the cabins!
That will be coming up soon. We've got to pack up and check out of the 2 bedroom and head to Hollywood Studios in the next update, but then we get to return "home" to a cabin. At this point we were very curious about which one it would be.

Oooh excited to hear about the cabins!
It's coming up. We took a couple of pictures too...

I need to consider the Illuminations Cruise for our Feb short trip (there for cheer competition). It holds a special place in my heart and am so sad it's changing. It was my mom's favorite and the few times we went as a family my Dad would get a bunch of pastries from France, bring the tray to the railing and cut them all in fours so we could sample all of them while we watched. My mom passed away two months ago so I am craving all things that were my Mom.

There is only 4 of us and I see there is a boat for 8. I wonder if there are any groups where you can find another random family to share it with?

It's such a beautiful resort and we actually contemplated doing a split stay here for our next trip.

I adore AKL! I stayed there in March (regular room), but rented DVC points for a suite in Jambo house in my trip in a month, plus am doing a 1-night there to surprise my mom in February.

For the buses, I didn't have troubles getting a bus from the resort - most of them came pretty quickly. But going back was another story, lots and lots of waiting. I ended up doing some Ubers back, though that'd be harder with the kids.

But it is an excellent resort, especially if you want a resort day! And easy enough to get at the 7 month mark.

Glad you liked it. We're doing it in May during my Epic Girls Trip (renting 3 boats!) and I can't wait!

I love Jiko so glad it did not dissapoint.

I thought that was going to be the plan, and while everybody enjoyed seeing the animals, we started to question the idea of this split stay while we were there. We rely on buses, and just haven't had the best luck in the past getting to and from there, even to AK.
We've always had horrible luck with AKL busses Every....Single....Time.

Your illuminations cruise looks awesome.

Can't wait for the next adventure to the cabins.

I can't wait to see the cabin!
Neither could we! Soon...

I love Jiko so glad it did not dissapoint.
It really was great. We will be back sometime.

We've always had horrible luck with AKL busses Every....Single....Time.
Yeah, we can't think of a time where we had great luck. It is enough to keep us from staying here next time...

Your illuminations cruise looks awesome.

Can't wait for the next adventure to the cabins.
The cruise was great, and we will do at least one next time. We were all looking forward to the cabin, but we have a morning of fun to over first, so we'll start that now...

On Wednesday I got up about 5:40, but hung out in the room and on the balcony until about 6:30.

When I did leave the room, I went down to the transportation boat dock and watched the sunrise and the first boats of the day.

My goal for the morning was to get brisket breakfast burritos for everyone from Fort Wilderness, so I got on a Blue flag boat at 7:34, then got to CR at 7:39. I was surprised that it didn't go to FW, because it had come from the CR, but the driver explained that until 8:00 they just run one boat each to/from CR for WL and FW, which makes it quicker for people to get to the CR. In order to get to FW, I had to wait for the other blue flag boat at CR, which wasn't a big deal.

I got to Fort Wilderness right at 8:00, and walked to the counter for PB&J's, which is basically the end of the buffet at Trail's End.

I ordered four burritos to go, and she said it'd be about 10 min but they were ready in 2 minutes. Since they were all packed up nicely, I decided to walk towards WL and see what I could see.

I never knowingly crossed any "Do Not Enter" or "Cast Member Only" signs, but I went past the horse barn towards the fence around River Country. As I walked the trail, I could see many trees marked for upcoming construction. We know know that Disney announced a 900 room nature themed hotel project for this site. It was neat to be there before the big construction, and will be something we can watch progress over the next few years. WL will have a big new neighbor.

As I proceeded towards WL I came up on the back of the Cast Members Only sign where the waterfront trail from the cabins turns towards the paved road to FW.

I took it towards the cabins and eventually came to be back side of the "End of Trail" gate by cabin 8026.

Not wanting to walk all the way around, I made my way over it and onto the cabin walking path.

I woke up and started packing while he was on this adventure.

I got up to the room about 8:30, then Jon and I went down to Roaring Fork for ketchup and mug refills. We all then enjoyed our burritos, which were great and came with tater tots.

It was so nice to have breakfast delivered and those burritos are GOOOOD. A great way to start the day.

It worked out perfectly, because I like my early morning adventures and this time I accomplished something. Once we were done eating we packed our suitcases and called for Bell Services to come get them and store everything for the day. I think we wound up with over 10 seperate pieces that they were taking.

We filled up the bell cart with all our stuff.

We said goodbye to the two bedroom and headed out at 10:00, and we met up with Grandma and Grandpa in the lobby. We went down to the buses, and one for HS arrived at 10:14. We arrived at HS at 10:30, but had a long walk in due to building the new bus terminals. On our way by we got pictures of the new Gondola station, and we made it to the gate of the park at 10:41.

It felt like a 3 mile hike in the sun. I don't complain much about these things but the walk in to HS was a bit crazy.

We had been warned by AJ in a DFB video, and once again we completely agreed. We had the coveted Slinky Dog Dash fastpasses, so we made our way into the park and went straight to Toy Story Land.

It was super exciting to get to see the new land. The theming is really cute and I think they did a good job with it. I do agree with the popular opinion that it is lacking shade but they had put some umbrellas around to help people beat the heat.

Marshall had seen videos of the slinky dog rollercoaster and had decided that he wanted to ride it. Unfortunately he was just barely too short, which disappointed him.

I took Allie and the original plan was for her to be able to ride it twice but she was not thrilled with the ride. It scared her and she didn’t wanna ride again. I loved the ride though. It’s super cute and very very well themed.

While the others rode it first, I took him and we bought a Buzz Lightyear bubble blower to take his mind off of it.

Since Allie didn’t want her second ride, Jon, Brandy and I went. I was impressed with the details, like the Al’s Toy Barn price tag on the toy box.

When we rode it I was on the right side of the car, which wasn’t scary at all. I can see how sitting on the left, like Allie did on her ride, would be a little more scary. Jon and Brandy agreed, since they switched sides for the second ride.

Maybe next year we can talk her into trying it again and make sure she sits on the right side.

After our ride it was time to head for lunch, so we walked around the rest of Toy Story land and then headed out.

Our lunch destination was another first for us, which is surprising since as a car guy I knew I’d love the theme.

As we walked in I was impressed. The cars are so cool.

We were seated quickly, since they asked us if we were ok with a car where we sit sideways to the screen. This was totally fine with us and worked great for our group.

It actually worked better than a traditional car because it felt like we were eating together and were able to chat and each deal with the kiddos. Marshall’s light up Buzz bubble blower was pretty neat in there with just his lights on.

I ordered the burger with Blue Cheese and I really enjoyed it.

I had a BBQ Bacon burger and it was pretty good. Not the best burger of the trip, but the atmosphere was awesome. The milkshakes were great too.

To complete the cuteness, at the end of the meal we were given our Speeding Ticket:

After lunch Paul headed over to the Belle stage show with Allie, Marshall, and Grandma. Jon, Brandy, Grandpa Jim and I went over to ride Star Tours. We literally walked on this ride. We haven’t ridden it in Florida but it is identical to the ride in California. It was still a great time. Brandy was the rebel spy. We met back up with Paul in the dump shop of Star Tours.

I had led Grandma and Allie over to see Beauty and The Beast, then Marshall and I walked back to meet the others. After we met back up the Indiana Jones show had just started, but we were able to go in and sit in the back. It was another first for us, but Marshall really enjoyed the show, especially when they move the set pieces with the tractors.

After the show we were ready to head back and check on our Cabin, since we had been anxiously waiting for a room number text but hadn’t gotten anything yet. It was also getting to be pretty warm, and looked like rain. We started getting some raindrops but it was still hot.

Anxiously waiting would be an understatement. Paul was obsessively checking his phone.

We had a few minutes to wait for Grandma and Allie, so we shopped on the main street. Brandy and Jon decided to head for the resort, and we knew we’d be close behind them.

They were also super excited to see which cabin we got.

Once Grandma and Allie got out of the show we headed out of the park and to the buses.

The temporary bus area was insanely hot and we all huddled under the shade cover thing instead of standing in the queue. Then to add to the fun it started to rain big fat rain drops. At least it helped cool things off a bit.

It was a long wait for the bus, because we had just missed the bus that Jon and Brandy got on. While we were waiting they texted us from the front desk:

It was in the general location we wanted, just a little further from Geyser Point. We couldn’t wait to get there to see it.

Check back for more in the next update.

On Wednesday I got up about 5:40, but hung out in the room and on the balcony until about 6:30.

Seeing photos like this make me really wish I could be motivated enough to get up early on vacation.

That's alot of luggage. I can see why you ordered bell services.

Unfortunately he was just barely too short, which disappointed him.

That's too bad. Poor guy.

As we walked in I was impressed. The cars are so cool.

Is that a photo you took? It looks like a promo shot. (We've never eaten there)
