Wine and Dine...to the Finish Line! Fall 2017 TR NEW 1/25 The Last Day - THE END!

It is! we added the race after we booked the trip so it just happened to work out this way.

I'm glad you did it! I mean, look at the bling!!

I realized that pretty much overnight...MK had now transitioned over to...Christmas. It was literally Halloween two days ago, but that was two days too late for Disney, so now it is Christmas.

I love that!! I did it last year and it was fun to see the change!

It was a little cloudy that morning, so the Castle looked like it was hidden behind some mist...

Cool shot!! Love that one.

Columbia Harbor House and mobile ordered the Mac and Cheese with Shrimp.

I am thinking this doesn't look quite as good as the one at AK that has real cheese and more real cheese melted on top and sweet chili sauce drizzled on it. Have you compared?

Steve had made his way into the park so we met at BTMRR which was our first FP. We wore our medals, because, why not?

Perfectly acceptable question.

It's because he kept all the corn chips in the snack box that we got in the runners bag so we just made a simple deconstructed form of nachos.

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant.

I had been texting @kastoney all morning and we finally got a chance to meet!

yay for DISMeets!

Look at him, all smiles, you'd never think he got up at 5 and ran a 5k and was park hopping all day did ya?

I asked him all morning, Are you tired? Don't you want to rest?
And him being stubborn and not wanting to admit he was kept saying he was OK. :sad2:

Hahaha, I have definitely never dealt with someone like this before! (oh wait, yes I have... :) )

Can't wait to hear about your dinner!!

..is wearing buttons?

:rotfl:

But thank you!!

Princess 5k had at least half a dozen more corrals and the pre-race areas were packed. At least that day we could still move around.

Huh.
I should get off my butt and do one of those 5Ks.

How did you know? Did I give it away? Darn.

I am very focused, I notice everyth....

Fake sprint count?

Yep!

We'll make it happen!

Yay!

Just checking to see if you were paying attention, and yes you're absolutely right! :thumbsup2

I just put me and all my kin down. I have once again re-lost my man-card.

and doing some solo turns on TSM,

Where's the fun in that? You have to be able to boast that you beat the guy/gal beside you.

I most definitely thought he would be way to tired at dinner that night, but that was all his doing, right? LOL.

Right!

I realized that pretty much overnight...MK had now transitioned over to...Christmas. It was literally Halloween two days ago, but that was two days too late for Disney, so now it is Christmas.

Nope.
I don't care for that. I want a gap between the holidaze, please.

Excuse my confused look in the pic above. I indeed was confused considering that last decor we saw was Halloween!

It's perturbed chunkymonkey!

It was a little cloudy that morning, so the Castle looked like it was hidden behind some mist...

It almost looks like... a painted on backdrop. Cool!

I headed over to Columbia Harbor House and mobile ordered the Mac and Cheese with Shrimp.

yummmm!!! Want!

It was quite tasty, but very rich with all the cheese, and butter breadcrumb.

drool...

Check out Steve's mighty yawn. Tired yet?

Here is Steve with feigned excitement, however my excitement was all real:

"okay. happy? my arms are up. woo. woo. yay. okay? happy now?"

Steve got condiments from the fixins bar. Why? I asked. It's because he kept all the corn chips in the snack box that we got in the runners bag so we just made a simple deconstructed form of nachos.

Dang... that's.... impressively brilliant.

After the parade we exited over by Adventureland so I could get some Dole Whip goodness. Also mobile ordered, because that is the only way I will order Dole Whip from Aloha Isle now. #nolinesforme

I am really going to have to look into this when I go again. (Possibly in May?)
Dole whip + no waiting????? Hello!!!!

I had been texting @kastoney all morning and we finally got a chance to meet!

Nice! Love DISmeets. :)

Our last FP was for Mine Train. Steve even had the energy to show off his medal on the ride pic.

Why not?

Look at him, all smiles, you'd never think he got up at 5 and ran a 5k and was park hopping all day did ya?

He looks... really good for all that!

I can't ever imagine where waking up before 8AM is easy.

It is not. LOL. But the race bling made me do it!

You look great! Steve does look quite Sleepy.

Thanks! Oh he totally was!

That's too bad. I can't run, haven't been able to since Jr High, shin splints. Now I even get them after prolonged walking. :headache:

OMG me too! I am really not a runner. The only thing athletic I do is swim, when there is less impact on my body.
:lmao: That's awesome! Love your pouty face. I don't do that well, although I actually made one (that will be in my next update) and I didn't even realize that I was doing it. I actually thought I was smiling, but I was too upset with myself.

Which picture did you have pouty face? Was that the one of you in the porthole?
Well you didn't look that pouty, you just didn't have your usual big smile! :D

That would do it! I would think you would need to do the run on the 2nd or 3rd day, then go all out!

Yes! So much better at the beginning of the trip.

I know you've already found out, but yes, she is Clara Cluck. She was in a lot of the old black and white cartoons.

It was even hard googling her, as when you google Birds of Disney you usually get Kevin from Up or Donald!

Plus you were on a cruise the week before! I gained 6 lbs on my last cruise, but we were a little more decadent in our eating than you were but still, cruises don't help 5K training.

Oh no, we were pretty decadent!! At least we walked a lot while we were in port, but Steve and I for sure gained a bit. Steve was complaining about how much weight he gained last year from all the Disney trips!

There has been some chatter about husbands not listening to what their wives say, but that isn't only restricted to husbands. I will try to tell Fran what we have planned and she may or may not listen to me. Then again when she is given the choice of a nap or something else, often times the nap wins, but not always.

Haha yes you're right, let's just say "all spouses" :thumbsup2

It should be interesting to see how he fares....are you dining in the Queen Victoria room or is this the Special F&W Dinner?

It's the special F&W dinner!

At first I was hoping to stay at OKW because I really want the Jacuzzi tub in the one bedroom, but I suppose I need to make an update to my March trip in my next IRL update!

Oooh - weren't you staying at Beach Club or something near Epcot?

It is so amazing how quickly they can transform the park and put up all the decorations! Super cool that you got to experience two holidays in one trip! Oh dear, Steve’s yawn does not bode well for a boozy dinner. How fun to meet Kari and her family! Great pics of you and Steve with your medals!

It was a pretty cool transformation even though I do look confused. One day I'd like to witness all the worker bees doing their work in the middle of the night!

Steve...sigh, he just doesn't want to listen!!

It was great meeting Kari and her family!

I'm the person who always wonders how many people worked through the night to take down Halloween and put up Christmas decorations. Can't wait to see the yuletide magic in December!

It must be a lot of people! There are a ton of decorations to take down and put up!

How nice you were able to meet Kastoney! I've read a few of her dining reports.

She's super sweet and fun, and her daughter is super cute :)

Looking forward to reading about Victoria & Albert's!

:thumbsup2

The castle looks so spooky behind the fog!

It was kinda cool! Should have been like that for MNSSHP!

Love the DIY nachos!!

Haha, anything to get a free meal at Disney, right?

Nice parade photos!

Thank you!

I wish they would add gift card payment to it! We felt spoiled Labor Day weekend using mobile order and magicband charging, because we never really do that. I always have gift cards for dining and so often we've been at the Dolphin.

Oh yes, darn I forget about that! I'm gonna have such a hard time next year as we're at the Swan for 2 trips and I keep wanting to put everything on my magic band! I'll just have to remember to get a gift card.

This is an excellent question!

Right? The stuff us Dis nerds think of...

It really is like they switching it overnight! It's kind of cool to see both! And it makes me want to go that week again!

The elves were out and the transformed the park! I'd like to witness it one day!

I like it, it's a cool different pic of the castle.

It was! Kinda hazy looking...

too funny! I know that feeling though!

Haha, sometimes we have to try and look happy at Disney when we're just hot and tired!

VERY resourceful! I am not sure I would have even thought to do that.

Right? Steve has his moments...

Wonder if it is actually more like outdoor table clothes or something....

It must be or some sort of fancy mildew free shower curtain liners! :rotfl:
I mean, that water in Jungle cruise is so...gross! :crazy2:

YEAH!!! Hopefully we will get to meet them all in Februrary!

I hope you do!!

I have this image of Steve literally asleep in his plate... ala little kid asleep in there high chair with spaghetti sauce all over them.

Well, if it weren't V&A I think he would have done that...:rotfl2:

Thanks again for this!! :)

I'm so sorry I've been late in sending this but I've been sick but I have your little package and hoping to mail it out tomorrow!

It's incredible how fast they turn the seasons around!!! And people think we're bad at Hallmark LOL

LOL you just need some pixie dust and a Fairy Godmother! :thumbsup2

Because Steve is obviously a nacho genius!!! Also, was guacamole back on the toppings bar?! Last time we were there we had to pay extra for it and got the tiniest little cup...not worth it!

It was still on the fixin's bar back then!! We were lucky! I think they removed it after. Now the DIY nachos won't be the same!
(Now I'm thinking that Steve was the one who caused the guac to disappear. :rotfl:They must have seen him on the cameras pilfering guac! :tiptoe: So apologies to all!!)

I love your Snow White t-shirt. I almost bought it and for some reason decided not to and have regretted it ever since. Can't find it anywhere now. I will have to live vicariously through your shirt, I suppose!:D

Thanks! I saw it last year in Sept and I bought it and I haven't seen it since! :magnify:

Thanks for posting. Enjoyed the read!

Thank you for reading!

I also love your Snow White t-shirt!!

Thank you!!

I love that! I'd really like to go that time of year someday to catch both.

It really is a great time to go!

Mmmmm carbs!! I'm so with you there.

Carbs forever!

I feel like it's a rule that you need to wear your medal after a Disney race. I did! My mom and Nathan forgot to wear theirs and felt totally jealous over the attention mine got.

Haha, well you deserve the attention for wearing your medal!! :thumbsup2

:rotfl: This is one of my favourite Steve moments.

I know right? :rotfl: I was so surprised he was resourceful like that but then again he'd do everything to save a buck considering I spend all the money on Disney so he has to get something back, i.e. free nachos.

Man you had me so confused. A. I don't think I even knew this report was out there. B. Christmas. and C. I'm in it! Seems like a lifetime ago. But so glad we got to meet and will do so again soon!

Haha, I started this report only a few months ago so the trip definitely seemed like a lifetime ago! But glad we get to do it again + 30 other girls in May! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Hahaha, I have definitely never dealt with someone like this before! (oh wait, yes I have... :) )

Haha, we all seem to have the same story about our spouses!

Huh.
I should get off my butt and do one of those 5Ks.

Yes, they are actually pretty fun.
But I don't know I'd do another one.
Just lazy, I guess, and I actually want to sleep during vacation.

I am very focused, I notice everyth....

Haha I just posted the same gif on Kastoney's TR!!

I just put me and all my kin down. I have once again re-lost my man-card.

How can you! You are letting your man-kind down!! Next time ignore everything I say and claim you're always right when you're not!

Where's the fun in that? You have to be able to boast that you beat the guy/gal beside you.

That is true. I pretend and I take his word for it when he says he got the "high score"

Nope.
I don't care for that. I want a gap between the holidaze, please.

It is rather disconcerting to see the change overnight!

It's perturbed chunkymonkey!

Yes! The new Ben and Jerry's special edition flavor: Perturbed Chunky Monkey

It almost looks like... a painted on backdrop. Cool!

It does!

"okay. happy? my arms are up. woo. woo. yay. okay? happy now?"

YES.

Dang... that's.... impressively brilliant.

For a man...yes, that actually is.
But back to regular programming now...

I am really going to have to look into this when I go again. (Possibly in May?)
Dole whip + no waiting????? Hello!!!!

ARE YOU COMING TO OUR EPIC GIRLS TRIP IN MAY?
Cos we'd totally love to have you.
No, seriously!

He looks... really good for all that!

He's a good liar. :sad2:

LOVE the pic of you, Kari and Casey, super cute!!!! I also love how you got to experience Halloween and Christmas all in the same trip.

Thanks! It was definitely a great day!!
I'm glad you did it! I mean, look at the bling!!

The bling was worth it!! Just barely!

I love that!! I did it last year and it was fun to see the change!

Wow were you there at the same time too? LOL we had no idea!

Cool shot!! Love that one.

Thank you! It was one of those hazy mornings!

I am thinking this doesn't look quite as good as the one at AK that has real cheese and more real cheese melted on top and sweet chili sauce drizzled on it. Have you compared?

I didn't get to try that! When I'm in AK I always eat at Tiffins or Satuli so I'm never hungry enough for anything else! I hope to get to try it sometime as it's been on my list!

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant.

Anything to get a free meal at Disney, right?
Although now, the guac is gone from the fixins bar and you have to pay for it.

yay for DISMeets!

YES!! :thumbsup2

Yes, they are actually pretty fun.
But I don't know I'd do another one.
Just lazy, I guess, and I actually want to sleep during vacation.

Hmmm... still think I'd try one. I really should get in better shape. Stupid back keeps going out every time I get in the groove, though.

Haha I just posted the same gif on Kastoney's TR!!

Great minds think alike!

And ours do too.

How can you! You are letting your man-kind down!! Next time ignore everything I say and claim you're always right when you're not!

:lmao:

That is true. I pretend and I take his word for it when he says he got the "high score"

So... not a good liar, then?

Yes! The new Ben and Jerry's special edition flavor: Perturbed Chunky Monkey

I bet it's sour.

For a man...yes, that actually is.
But back to regular programming now...

:rotfl:

Hey!

ARE YOU COMING TO OUR EPIC GIRLS TRIP IN MAY?
Cos we'd totally love to have you.
No, seriously!

No. Absolutely not.

Elle asked me the other day if I'd go with her and a friend in May as a graduation (they both will be getting their Arts degrees) gift to themselves. They want the guided tour I suppose.
I'm not sure when they'd like to go. Early, mid or late May.
But if it's when you gals are doing your epic girls trip; I wouldn't dream of interfering. It's a trip for you girls. I wouldn't impose.

He's a good liar. :sad2:

Great minds think alike!

And ours do too.

Thanks!

I think.

So... not a good liar, then?

Haha think you've figured it out.

No. Absolutely not.

Well for the record, there are about 8 guys coming on the trip too...including Steve, and several other husbands, so you are welcome to hang with the "guys" and do your
"guy" things and not listen to us girls, pound your chests, go fishing, pretend you're good at TSM, you know, that sort of thing. :cutie:

Thanks!

I think.

:rolleyes2

Ugg. Maybe cook with fire. That be good. Sit and watch sports too. Yell loudly at TV. We all get remotes, though, right?

It was still on the fixin's bar back then!! We were lucky! I think they removed it after. Now the DIY nachos won't be the same!

November 3rd: Victoria and Albert's Food & Wine Dinner (with great company!)

When we last left off, we had run a 5k at 6am and I took a nap while Steve went to DHS and DID NOT SLEEP. We met up in MK where we did more rides, Steve made some FREE nachos and we met Kari and her family before heading back to the GF to rest before dinner.

When we reached our room, Steve did the only thing he could have done...he dozed off. Of course. Our dinner was at 6pm so he had a good 45 minutes of rest before I had to wake him to get him into his suit. Luckily we did not have far to go. Oh thank goodness we were staying at the GF or I don't know how I would have gotten us out of the room and to the restaurant in time! :sad2:

Here's us all fancy:

(Steve giving me the "why are you making me go to a 10-course dinner when I'm obviously non-functioning" side eye) :rotfl:

(Me smiling the "I'm gonna take a selfie and pretend you're not there because you obviously don't listen to anything I say" face) :cutie:

Tonight's dinner was a special one, it was the exclusive Victoria and Albert's Food & Wine Festival Dinner with wine pairings. This menu will only be served on that night before it's back to their regular menu. We had to pre-pay for this dinner, and let me tell you, it was the most expensive meal we've ever had. So yes I was dragging corpse-Steve to dinner whether he liked it or not.

We were seated in the Main Dining room. Everyone tonight had the same menu, I believe, regardless of which room you were in. There was a lovely harpist, and a great big table in the middle, with some of the sponsors of tonight's dinner, including representatives form Heitz Cellars which would be supplying the wine pairing for tonight.

Aperitif: It was a champagne blend, I think, could have been a Moet Ice, with fruit twists. It was really good!

Great food, great company. I could not WAIT for this meal to begin!! I think Steve actually began to feel alive again, as he really enjoyed talking to Sonia and her hubby.
If it were just me, 100% he would be cross-eyed and doing the head-bob while he dozed off. But thank you Sonia for saving the night!

There's gonna be a lot of pictures of food so just warning you!

Left to Right: Royal Kaluga Caviar, Tuna Escabeche
Belgian Osetra Caviar, Winano Oyster
Galilee Caviar, Bison Crouton

Wow these were amazing So many flavors packed into 3 tiny bites. I think the oyster was our favorite among the group.
We were also served champagne I believe as the pairing, but I don't have a picture of it.

One of the 3 bread services we had that evening - believe this was a traditional mini baguette:

Poussin is actually not a fish (poisson in French) it's a young chicken. This made the dish super tender, flavorful and fresh. A great start.
This was served with a sauvignon blanc which paired very well with it.

Yum, I absolutely love sablefish and this was beautiful dish - love artichokes and Parmesan, and yet it didn't overpower the fish. This was served with a lovely Chardonnay.

Our next bread course was a heartier whole grain bread with great texture.

I don't know where Rohan duck comes from (Middle Earth? LOL) but it was wonderful. I never met a duck I did not like! It was juicy and tender and not too much fat which a lot of duck seems to have.
Oh and Duck Bacon? sign me up. This was paired with a robust Cabernet.

I don't have much experience with wild boar but the meat was tender and flavorful - like really good pork tenderloin. I loved the presentation of this dish as well. This was also paired with another Cabernet.

Our 3rd and final bread service was their signature truffle brioche. It's so delicious! Served with a decadent truffle butter. Yum.

I was definitely feeling a bit full at this point but this was one of my favorite dishes - so rich and robust and oooh look at all those truffles! I don't eat veal that much but loved the Japanese beef. I remember we paid for an up grade to this beef the last time we were at V&A for my birthday the year prior. I'm glad they did not skimp on this pricey meal! This was also served with another Cabernet of a different vintage.

I had not caught up with the wine pairings so I literally had glasses of red wine in front of me. It allowed me to do a comparison taste test of everything though! And yes I eventually finished everything.

That was the end of our savory courses. It was all wonderful.

The next course was our cheese course which was very unique and interesting because they didn't' just serve you cheese from the cheese cart,
which would have been fine with me, but the chef created special dishes using cheese as the main ingredient.

Cheese Course Trio: Stilton Cheescake, Cremont Ravioli, and Brillat Savarin Creme Brulee

Oh man, everything was divine. If you love cheese as much as I do you'd really appreciate the flavor and complexity of these dishes. They were quite rich, with all the cheese flavors shining through. The Creme Brulee was probably my favorite and I can usually leave or take creme brulee, and this one was definitely a TAKE! The richness of this dish was paired very will with a complex and aged 2004 Cabernet.

Our first Dessert course: Green "Apple" with Sour Cream Ice Cream

The apple is actually a beautifully constructed mousse. I remember I had something similar last year for dessert, and I also remembered how much I loved the sour cream ice cream! It's so good, like froyo and cheesecake blended together, hard to explain but delicious with a clean, sweet-tart flavor.

And finally, our last Dessert course: Peruvian Chocolate with Orange Milk Chocolate Gelato

This was basically for all chocolate lovers. You might recognize the chocolate crown as something that they serve at Citricos too. This was served with a nice port. I dont' normally drink port but when served to me like this with all these courses, I found it to be a great digestif :) (I so fancy)
We also got a little plaque with our anniversary on it, while @soniam got a Happy Birthday on hers!

By then we were all very full!

Throughout the night we had great conversation, wonderful music, we were even serenaded by the representative from Heitz Cellars who sang like Pavarotti.
And as a finale, the fantastic chefs responsible for our meal came out to a round of applause. Well done team!

Thanks guys for a great and most memorable evening! :grouphug:

I really commend Steve for being able to stay awake through 10 courses and countless wine pairings which would have even made me pass out but I attribute that to having fun table mates so that the evening didn't seem like it was too long. The whole event took about 3.5 hours but it really didn't feel like that. :thumbsup2

It was nice we didn't have to go to far back to our room. This is tipsy me in our hallway:

I love that! I mean, I don't dislike cheese courses, but it's so nice and creative to serve it as something else rather than just chunks of cheese!

Wow! This looks and sounds like a fantastic meal! And always nice when you get to spend it with good company. Glad Steve stayed awake :rotfl2:

But I think I am most impressed with the chair for your purse!

What a fabulous anniversary dinner. I would have to be rolled out of there. How convenient that you were staying in the same hotel. I bet Steve was out as soon as his head hit the pillow.

he dozed off. Of course.

Of course...

(Steve giving me the "why are you making me go to a 10-course dinner when I'm obviously non-functioning" side eye) :rotfl:

Because it's paid for. And it's Victoria & Albert's. Get dressed.

He's so sleepy, he's blurry!

Victoria and Albert's Food & Wine Festival Dinner with wine pairings.

I had no idea this even happened!

let me tell you, it was the most expensive meal we've ever had.

This I have no doubt.

and a great big table in the middle,

When I first read that, I thought all the guests were going to be sat at that table.

Nice!

He's still awake:

Barely!

Since it's so fancy in here, even my purse had a seat.

Of course. A lady's expensive purse should not come in contact with the dirty ground, don't you think? We are far too refined for such things.
:snooty:

You must be wondering why our table was set up for 4? Well we were dining with the incredible @soniam and her DH!!

Nice! A DISmeet there? Wow!

If it were just me, 100% he would be cross-eyed and doing the head-bob while he dozed off. But thank you Sonia for saving the night!

I didn't comment on the food. You definitely had me at duck bacon (hello!), and then lost me at Brussels sprouts (nope!). But... everything looked absolutely amazing and delicious!
