Disney's CARIBBEAN BEACH RESORT Information & Questions

Exactly. Completely agreeing with everything here.

Also,I will actually enjoy seeing other Guests checking in as I move through OPR-the look of excitement from Guests as they check-in at OPR with their whole vacation in front of them will be fun to see.:)

I am in the process of starting a new updated CBR facts and questions thread. This thread will remain intact until it is completed. Instead of deleting all of the information that everyone has posted here during the construction, I wanted to keep it so that the progress would be memorialized.

If any of you are traveling to the resort soon, please take as many pictures as possible. Pictures of what? Anything and everything! Unless you have a personal friend who has posted pictures on other social media and has given you permission to post them here, we need pictures taken by Disers and not from other websites.

Obviously, pictures of both the inside and outside of Old Port Royale-Centertown. I have some of the seating and check in area. I'd like to have pictures of the food court seating, each of the food stations, condiment area, etc. Food pictures are always awesome to have.

Pictures of Sebastian's Bistro, seating, menus, foods, etc. are needed.

Banana Cabana pictures, seating, menu, items served there, etc. are needed.

The lighthouse and updated marina, bike rental info. pics would be appreciated.

Movies under the stars location and set up as well as marshmallow roast pictures are needed.

If you have other pictures, please post them and I'll use all that I can.

I received an email this morning from Touring Plans that our room fax reservation did not go through. They called Caribbean Beach and the fax machine has not been set-up yet at OPR. We are checking in tomorrow! I may try to call today to give our room request. Just a heads up to anyone else who is checking in soon and will be trying to fax a request either through touring plans or on their own. I'll try to send pictures and updates once we are there!

I was looking into staying at CBR for a few night in May of 2019. I noticed that room rates are significantly less than other moderate resorts. I do know about the construction going on with the new property and skyliner. I was basically wondering if anyone would recommend me booking a short two night stay here before we move to a week stay off site or should I go with my original plan of staying at Pop for slightly less money. I don't know exactly how much construction would be going on that would take away from the experience of our visit. Thanks in advance.

My thought would be to go for it!

The new facilities that are now open look amazing and from pictures I have seen the rooms look gorgeous.

I would look at the construction on the new property as now a totally separate thing - a new resort being built near Caribbean Beach but not at Caribbean Beach. I think the most disruption from the skyliner construction is out the way and when they move to install the cables this will be very minimal disruption.

I have stayed at POR previously and will be staying at CBR in November. I am so happy at my choice!

Just checking out the new map - can anybody confirm what I see.... The Island Markets and Freestyle machines in each section are becoming permanent?

If so it just gets better and better!

I had to book a water view room as that's all that was available. I really wanted preferred. What section can i make a request for with a water view room? thanks.

I'm confused by the decision to not serve full lunch at Centertown Market. This is going to throw a wrench in some of my plans.... was hoping to do a back-to-room-for-lunch-and-rest midday break sort of thing on the next trip, and avoid some lunches in the parks.... not sure this is a feasible plan now. I don't get it. I know the Spyglass Grill is there but it's just not convenient unless you're staying in that section.

What would be a good request for a preferred room? Martinique looks to be a bit closer to OPR, but also farther from the rest of the resort and closer to the DVC construction. Ideally I would like to avoid a parking lot view, but since there aren't balconies it isn't as big of a deal as it would be if they had them. My perfect room would be a first floor outside corner room not looking at a parking lot close to OPR and far from construction lol! Since I can't request all of that, and it seems like a bad idea to phrase requests as things I don't want, WWYD?

I do agree with @dansdad on this one. If you will take a look at the live video, you can see how much space was alloted for guest services/check in and out and seating. In my opinion, that's a fairly large amount of space. That whole area used to be the arcade and the two sections of the resort shop.

In the video you can see that the people standing in line for the market station on the left spilled over into the area where guests would normally walk around and enter and exit the building. With the old set up, that would have been a dining area and part of the store. In the old set up, the stations were in a long line and while they did get somewhat congested at times, it didn't always seem that way because of the set up.

I know that yesterday was the grand opening of Old Port Royale and some of those folks in the video may not have normally been there on any other day; however, you can see how the "extra" guests do cause congestion in the food court area. I'm not a fan of the semi-circle food court set ups to begin with. Whether it actually is or not, it feels more busy and congested.

Having said all of that, I am looking forward to booking our next trip to our home away from home and seeing how the new Old Port Royale works for us.
Oh for sure, jesting. I was mostly teasing Dansdad cause so many have loathed the separate Customs House. I have no idea what it will look like. I am glad to not have to stop at Customs House especially if I get a room text :rolleyes1

I would love for it to be open as well. They may expand hours as staff get acclimated and they are able to hire additional staff for lunch. It is a very quick turnover between the meal periods and a very green staff. I don’t think the current hours are necessarily permanent. They do have hot/cold sandwiches and salads in the grab & go, according to the website. Not sure if the hot are nuke it yourself though.

Great chance I’m wrong, but I don’t think Martinique is currently preferred. Subject to change of course. I would request, ground floor, corner room, Avoid parking lots in order of preference. Just know a corner room that is not a water view may have some parking lot in your view.

Just a curiosity, but with the Riviera construction, are guests still able to walk around Barefoot Bay, or do you have to turn around when you reach the construction site?
