This Is Us- Season 3

Also just watched the episode..not one of the greats for me. I did like that Toby seemed ‘normal’ this week but that leg twitching concerns me. Also the fact that he knows things are going to be bad..

It will be interesting if Randall runs. Maybe Beth could be the campaign manager. Or, maybe she’ll decide to run instead of him.

Eight eggs seems like a good shot. We’ll have to wait along with Kate and Toby to see how it works out.

I always delete the episode before I see the promo for next week. Is it flashbacks to Jack being in the war?

I was really annoyed that Beth felt like Randall was in wrong with Kate and he was the one that owed her an apology. I loved the scenes with the the 3 Kates and Jack.

8 eggs is good. The problem, though, for Kate is probably getting implantation and STAYING pregnant with her extreme obesity. I'm sure they are going to have her "get" pregnant, but if we have to do another loss, ugh.

As a successful IVF patient myself (but only after several tries), I am following this story line with great interest to see how accurate it is. The whole egg retrieval thing looked nothing like mine. I was not under general anesthesia, only the twilight stuff. That part wasn't realistic. And, it was NOTHING like a hospital room....it was in a clinic that had a small room for the procedure, and "recovery" was in a room with about 3-4 other beds. Then I went straight home in about an hour. So, that place that Kate was at was far more luxe than mine! LOL.

I loved the three Kate's and Jack. I wonder what William was talking about to Beth when he said there would be a time when she would have to put her needs first instead of twisting her ring and wondering why she got married. Then at the end she was sitting there twisting her ring. I was kind of confused.

I was also confused about Deja. He got a call from Deja and he rushed back. It wasn't Deja who had her arm broken right? Was it the friend from the rec center?

Yeah, it was Chichi’s daughter that was hurt.

Surprisingly (to me) I watched the first AND second episode and just got bored...both times and turned it off. I was shocked as I love this series but for some strange reason, I'm not finding it easy to engage with it this season.

Now that Randall and Beth are both not working how are they going to pay the bills? Are we to assume they have enough squirreled away to stay afloat indefinitely? Especially if he's going to run for political office, which will also take a lot of money.

I was so moved by last night's episode... definitely the best of the season, thus far, for me. I cried from the start.

I don't think so.

Agree to disagree. :)

That will be the source of the drama for their story line in upcoming episodes I'm sure.

She was offered a severance package. I would guess that it would be several month's salary an they seem to me like people who would have something set aside.

I agree with the above poster. I would think they have a "rainy day fund." Randall seems like the type to plan for everything. I also think Beth will land on her feet and get another job quickly.

Enjoyed seeing all the Kates together (would have liked even more) and Jack being there too was a nice surprise. I felt bad for Kevin when the interviewer kept questioning him after he clearly couldn't answer.

I definitely think Beth has felt for a long time that she's "the bass" in the background. Even when she was trying to tell Randall she got fired, he just kept going on dumping all his thoughts on her instead.

I did notice a couple of little details that bugged me, though:

In the grocery store scene, when Rebecca runs into Jack, the shelf seemed awfully modern (for instance, cereal in little plastic cups. - Weren't the individual servings in the tiny boxes back then?) It doesn't spoil the show for me or anything(!), but I didn't get that instant sense of time that I usually get.

The other was the flashbacks to Rebecca's childhood. - I could have sworn we saw one before and she had a sister??

I think it was just alluding to the fact that Beth is generally the rock, the strong one, the realistic one, while Randal is generally the dreamer whose world is in the forefront, while Beth's kinda just comes 2nd. I think her spinning her rings at the end was her being nervous to "lean" on Randal so to speak, especially since when she first opened her mouth to tell him...he went on about another "passion" of his. I like Randal a lot, but I think being married to him, your personal life is just kinda in the background and William I think was trying to lend insight that in order for a relationship to really work, the both will have times of need and where the focus has to be on them.

I'm almost wondering if this is foreshadowing for their marriage down the road, because I believe we have seen Randal in the much later future without a wedding ring...perhaps they divorced or perhaps Beth found herself in a really bad place mentally etc...who knows, just my best guess at this point.

I know in the mid 80s they at least had little individual cereals in boxes, but I'm guessing not the plastic cups like they do now. I'm not very observant lol, so I didn't even notice.

Kind of building on this, did anyone notice how much attention was given to Beth drinking? Kind of long drawn out pauses on the glasses and the bottles several times, and a lot of strange camera angles and transitions that highlighted that she was drinking. Maybe it will become a problem for her?

I think you both might be on to something here!

I noticed that too.
