The Year of Disney - A 2018 PTR. Updated 10/12x4!

Now I'm having issues because for some reason Jocelyn's ticket is not showing up in my MDE. She and John are on the same package so I have no clue what's going on. Got to call again! This will be the fourth time I've called with technical issues for this trip.
That is INSANE and SO frustrating!!!!!! Hopefully it won't take an hour to sort this out.

Day 3, Saturday, October 20th

Well folks, I realized that I only have 16 days till this trip and I still have 7 days to talk about! So I'm going to try to update a few more times this week. I actually have all but the last three days written so hopefully I can get this finished before I leave. So let's move on to day 3.

On Saturday, Jim and I plan to get up early and walk over to All Star Music to drop our bags with bell services.

Mom, John and Jocelyn don’t land until 8:20 am so Jim and I are going to head to Hollywood Studios without them. Jim is only staying through Wednesday morning and I wasn’t able to get a Slinky Dog Dash FP until later in the week after he is gone. So we are going to attempt to rope drop the ride so he can have a chance to try it out.

As of right now, HS opens at 9 am so I’m hoping to drop our bags, grab some breakfast and be on a bus to the park by 7:30 am. I’m not sure how regular rope drop at TSL will be so I want to get there early.

After SDD, we might try to get on Toy Story Mania if the line hasn’t gotten too long. We both love this ride and are very competitive.

I would also love to hit up the Pluto meet and greet since the rest of my family are not big on meet and greets.

We covered all of the Star Wars characters back in January but I think Jim will want to walk through Launch Bay to see anything new and also check out the store.

I’m expecting John, Jocelyn & Mom to arrive at the park sometime around 11 am so we will probably meet them somewhere on Sunset Blvd for our first FP of the day which is for Tower of Terror 11:05 – 12:05.

I’m also hoping to have a DIS meet with @buzzrelly around this time as she has a similar FP for TOT.

We have a lunch ADR on this day at Hollywood Brown Derby at 12:30 pm. This was my brother’s pick and I’m a little leery of the menu because it’s a bit fancy for my extremely simple palate. But I’ve found that Disney restaurants are great at doing substitutions so I’m sure I’ll be fine. I’m pretty sure I’m going to give the Braised Beef Short Ribs a try.

After lunch and before our second FP I’m hoping to catch the Frozen show. Neither John nor Jocelyn has ever seen this show and I’m curious to see what they think of it. I enjoy it but my Uncle and his family hated it when they saw it in February. It’s been four years since John and Jocelyn have been to WDW so there’s lots of new stuff for them to see.

Our second FP is for Alien Saucer Swirl from 2:40 – 3:40 pm.

I’m sure during that time we will walk around TSL so they can see all of the details.

Our last FP of the day is for Rockin’ Roller Coaster from 3:50 – 4:50 pm.

I’m not a fan of RnRC but my Mom said we are going to suck it up and ride since John and Jocelyn want to. Jim though absolutely refuses to ride it so I made him a FP for Star Tours at the same time. No one else in our group wants to ride that one and I’m even more leery of it than RnRC. Star Tours is the only attraction at WDW that I came within inches of throwing up after riding.

After we step into the FP line for RnRC I’m going to immediately try to get us a Toy Story Mania FP because Jocelyn really wants to ride that one. I’m not sure I’ll have any luck since it’s a Saturday during a busy time of the year so we may just end up waiting in line for it. At least that line is all indoors and there’s lots of stuff to see.

We don’t have any solid plans for dinner but after the big lunch, I don’t think we’ll want much. I suggested Baseline Tap House and both John and Jocelyn are intrigued by it. If we do end up there, I’ll definitely get the soft pretzel and California Sunset.

We have a very long day coming up after this one so I plan on calling it an early night. Mom, John and Jocelyn will be especially tired thanks to their 6:05 am flight that morning. So after our dinner/snack, we will head out and back to the resort to get settled for the night.

Up Next: Day 4, Sunday, October 21st

That is INSANE and SO frustrating!!!!!! Hopefully it won't take an hour to sort this out.

It definitely is! I only discovered it because I haven't been able to do our BOG order so I started looking at everything. I'm hoping that's the reason I can't do the BOG order and I can get both problems solved this weekend!

Day 3 looks like fun! As for rope drop at TSL the cast will walk you in much like they used to do with TSMM. Once in the land you take your pick at which attraction to go to. Definitely can be a mad rush but not as bad as pandora can be.

Star Tours is the only attraction at WDW that I came within inches of throwing up after riding.
Me, too!!!! I can ride everything else and love it...although, the one and only time I went on Astro Orbiters I felt the same queasiness. SO bizarre.

That's good to know. I did do rope drop in August but it was on a morning EMH day. I'm hoping that a non-EMH morning won't be too much worse than the EMH one.

Day 3 sounds great!! Hopefully rope drop at TSL won't be too bad- will be curious to hear how it goes!

I'm hoping it won't be too bad that morning. And with just Jim and I we can weave in and out of crowds with the best of them. I don't think I would ever try it with Mom along.

Me, too!!!! I can ride everything else and love it...although, the one and only time I went on Astro Orbiters I felt the same queasiness. SO bizarre.

Weird, I've ridden the Astro Orbiters with no issues although I will say I hated that ride. Too high for me and I didn't like the feeling of sliding out of your rocket the whole time. Star Tours is a crap shot for me. I rode it in January with no issues. I think it depends on the scenes I get. The Pod Racer scene was the one that almost made me lose my lunch. :rotfl2:

Day 4, Sunday, October 21st

On Sunday, I’m hoping to have everyone up and out the door to Magic Kingdom by 8 am. I have been checking daily to see if the hours change but as of right now MK opens at 9 am.

It’s going to be interesting because John and Jocelyn are not morning people at all. But we only have a short time at MK because I focused a lot of our time on Epcot and Food and Wine. So my goal for the morning is to cram in as many rides as possible before our 11:45 am BOG ADR. After lunch we plan on heading out of the park and back to the resort for a break (well at least John, Jocelyn and Jim will be, Mom and I have other plans I’ll talk about in a minute. Then that evening we will be heading back for MNSSHP! There’s a long story on how that came about. I'll talk about that in a bit also.

First up though, I plan to head to the Jungle Cruise since it’s not open during the Halloween Party.

Hopefully we can also get Pirates and maybe Haunted Mansion in before our first FP of the day.

Our first FP is for Big Thunder Mountain RR from 9:10 – 10:10 am and I plan to use it towards the end after getting as many rope drop rides in as possible.

Next, we will cross over the hub and use our second FP for Space Mountain from 10:15- 11:15 am. I have a feeling that we will hit up the People Mover at that time too since it’s one of John’s favorites.

Around 11:40 we will need to be at Be Our Guest to check in for our 11:45 am ADR.

I have been trying for several weeks to pre-order our food with no luck. Thanks to some tips from a friend, I discovered that for some reason, Jocelyn’s ticket is not showing up in my MDE which is strange since she’s on the same package as John. I believe that may be why I can’t order our food so I’m going to call again this weekend to see if I can get this issue fixed. I swear this trip has been one technical issue after another with MDE!

After lunch, Mom and I will send the three J’s back to the resort for a nap. Neither Mom nor I can nap very well plus we have a couple of missions to complete.

First off, I need to stop at will call and pick up our MNSSHP tickets. Oh yeah, I said there was a long story behind us going to the party so I might as well tell that now. When we first planned this trip we did discuss going to the party but I was really the only one that was enthusiastic about spending the money for it. John, Jocelyn and Mom are not fans of parades, character meets or fireworks so the party didn't seem worth the money to them. Instead, I signed us up for Early Morning Magic that day. Mom and I split the cost of EMM as a surprise to John and Jocelyn. I figured that would be a great way to get Peter Pan and 7DMT in without using a FP for them.

A few weeks later, I was browsing the DIS, reading reviews for EMM so I could figure out a strategy when I discovered that people were getting calls cancelling some of the Sunday EMMs in October. Some people had been given extra FPs for the inconvenience while others were getting free tickets to the Halloween Party. I immediately called Mom and we decided that free tickets to the Halloween Party was what we wanted.

So when I got the call I played along with the CM, acting surprised and disappointed when he told me it was cancelled (I really was a little disappointed at first but also excited to get to go to the party). He then asked if we could do the Tuesday EMM instead. Before I could even tell him no, he saw that I had an ADR at AK that day and that one of my party (Jim) didn’t have hoppers so that was not an option for us. He then asked if we were going to the Halloween Party that week and here’s where I poured it on pretty thick. I said no, we had wanted to but the cost was just a little bit above our price range so we decided to do EMM instead. I honestly think I made his day because he sounded very relieved when he offered me the Halloween tickets for that night. I think he probably had some pretty ugly calls before mine with people being upset over the cancellation. So I ended up getting the full price of EMM refunded to my credit card AND 5 free tickets to MNSSHP that night!

So that all leads up to me having to pick up the tickets at will call. I have a letter with a case number that I need to take there to get our tickets. I do plan on trying to get them at Disney Springs on Friday but I don’t think I can do that because the email specifically states to use the MK will call. But I bought Jim’s park ticket through AAA and plan to activate it Friday night at Guest Relations so I might as well ask about the Halloween tickets while I’m at it.

After I get our tickets, Mom and I will hop on the Monorail and take a nice relaxing ride over to Epcot.

Since we are both Annual Pass Holders, we can get a free Mickey cutting board if we enter Epcot on 4 different days. We already had 3 days scheduled at Epcot so this will allow us to claim our cutting boards later in the week. At this point I’m not sure what we will do once we get to Epcot. We may head to the festival center or Mouse Gears for some shopping or if the whole will call thing takes a while we may just scan our bands and then turn right back around and head to the buses.

Around 3:30 pm we will head back to MK for the party. But first before we get to the actual party we have our third FP for 7DMT from 4:25 – 5:25. I originally wanted to make all three of our FP for the morning but I went for Slinky Dog and FOP before doing the 7DMT FP so late afternoon was all I could get. I wasn’t too worried at the time because I was certain that the opening time for MK would change to 8 am. I mean, why else would they cancel the EMM that morning? But so far it’s still 9 am. I am going to keep stalking the hours though in hopes that I can move the 7DMT FP to the 8 am hour.

After we ride 7DMT we will need to head towards Liberty Square for our 5:10 pm ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern. I was hoping to move this ADR a little later like around 5:30 (we aren’t planning on doing any of the rare character meets at the party so I’m not worried about finishing up dinner early) but constant checking and using Touring Plans has yielded nothing so far except a few earlier times. The restaurant closes at 6 pm so I’m wondering if there aren’t any later times. I am very much looking forward to this reservation as the food is right up my alley. Mom and I ate there in February and I loved the pot roast and mac and cheese.

The dinner menu is family style but both the pot roast and mac and cheese are part of the platter. Plus there is turkey and mashed potatoes so I will be in heaven! I’m not a fan of the Toffee Cake dessert but I have several snacks I want to try at the Halloween party so I’m not too upset.

After we finish dinner, the party should be near the start. I still need to spend some time putting together a bit of a schedule but for the most part, we are going to use the party to snack, get candy and ride some rides that we missed that morning. Jocelyn wants to see the Hocus Pocus show and I am insisting we watch the parade since it’s awesome. We will most likely ride rides during Hallowishes or just watch it from wherever we are at the time. We definitely won’t stake out a place in the Hub area for the show. My family also isn’t into character greets and honestly I’ve met most of the rare ones that are at the party. The only one that is killing me is Elvis Stitch so I may sneak away for a bit to meet him. Wait times have been an hour for him though and I’m not sure I want to invest that amount of time.

Oh and if you are wondering, we decided not to do elaborate costumes that will just get in the way. Originally we were going to wear our fab five shirts. Here’s mine (with my new bag for this trip) and Jim’s.

Mom will be wearing Goofy, Jocelyn Minnie and John Mickey. But a week or so ago Mom told me she was kind of disappointed we were wearing those shirts to the party because she wants nice pictures of us in them, possibly with one or more of the Fab Five. We haven’t had photos together since 2011 and she wants some to frame that don’t have Halloween backgrounds. So we decided that we will wear the Fab Five shirts to Epcot the next day as that’s going to be the best place for Fab Five character pictures in their original garb. So I hopped on Etsy and ordered these shirts for the party.

Fingers crossed that one, they make it here in time, and two, that they all fit. Turnaround time on them is about two weeks so I won’t be able to order different sizes if these don’t fit.

Oh, and I got a special Magic Band to wear for Halloween. I actually bought this one last year after Halloween at 50% off.

I’m hoping we can make it all the way till midnight to close out the party. I rearranged the next day so that we don’t have anything in the morning so hopefully that will allow us to keep going at the party.

This castle pic is simply perfection. Sigh. Wish I was there right now!

He then asked if we were going to the Halloween Party that week and here’s where I poured it on pretty thick.
GOOD FOR YOU!!!! :) I'm so glad they offered you this amazing opportunity AND gave you your money back!

I'm trying to figure out when we can go so we can get our cutting boards. I have one of the food and wine AP magnets on my microwave. We talked about going the 19th and 20th since my girls are off from school but so far no DVC rooms and I'm waiting on their soccer schedule. We have FPs booked.

I love Liberty tree. We hadn't been since they got rid of the characters and went last trip. They were great with 2 or 3 of us being vegetarian. I'm not sure when DD1 stopped eating meat.

Sounds like it will be a busy but fun morning at MK! Nice that you and mom will be able to grab the cutting board at Epcot!

While it's a bummer they cancelled your EMM, that is AWESOME that you will be able to go to MNSSHP! It paid off knowing the details beforehand so you knew what to do/say when they called!

Love the shirts you bought to wear at the party!

October Trip – Day 1 & 2, Thursday 10/18 and Friday 10/19

Just as a reminder since it’s been ages since I last wrote about this trip, the dates for the trip are Saturday 10/20 through Saturday 10/27. So why the heck am I doing a post about 10/18 and 10/19? Because as you all know, I can’t leave well enough alone when it comes to my Disney trips. I’m going to have to blame this change though on Jim because he started the whole thing…….

I'll fill you in more later, but I'm starting my new job down there on the 22nd, so can possibly meet up one evening.

Let’s flash back about a month or so ago when Jim came to me and said he was bummed because he didn’t realize that the Detroit Red Wings would be playing the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday 10/18 and he really wished he could have gone to the game since we would be down there a few days later. You see, Jim is a huge hockey fan and also plays in 2 leagues here in Atlanta. The Red Wings are his team (for me it’s the Pittsburgh Penguins) and he really misses going to games. We used to go all the time to see the Atlanta Thrashers before they moved to Winnipeg and became the Jets.
That's cool that he's going to get to go to the game!
We used to go to the Thrashers game and was sad when they moved.

This castle pic is simply perfection. Sigh. Wish I was there right now!

GOOD FOR YOU!!!! :) I'm so glad they offered you this amazing opportunity AND gave you your money back!

You and me both! 11 days and I will be there, just need to get through nine more days of work. :rotfl:After that though, it's going to be a long stretch to November 2019. I still want to find a way to join the May group but as of right now I just don't think it's going to happen.

I was really pleased to get those MNSSHP tickets!

As soon as we found out about the cutting boards, Mom and I started plotting to see when we could get our fourth visit in. It's not ideal to do it on our Halloween Party day but it really was the only option. Hopefully we can relax and rest a bit on the monorail.

I love Liberty Tree too! Any place that has good, simple food is great for me.

Sounds like it will be a busy but fun morning at MK! Nice that you and mom will be able to grab the cutting board at Epcot!

There was no way we weren't getting those cutting boards when we were already going to be at Epcot for three days. There were several options for going a fourth day but this one seemed the best.

Yep, finding out ahead of time on the DIS was great!

The shirts shipped so hopefully they will be here sometime this week. I can't wait to see them in person.

I'll fill you in more later, but I'm starting my new job down there on the 22nd, so can possibly meet up one evening.

We used to go to the Thrashers game and was sad when they moved.

It was really great meeting you last night! Congrats on the new job and getting to move to Orlando! I do plan to do that someday but probably not till after we retire.

I definitely miss going to the Thrasher games. This year we actually got a package for the Gwinnett Gladiators so we will be going to those this year.

Day 5, Monday, October 22nd

Before I start talking about Day 5, I did get a chance to call Disney this weekend and was finally able to place our BOG order! While I was on the phone with them, I also added a room request for our first night at All Star Sports. I requested the baseball section because it's closest to All Star Music and will make for a shorter walk with our suitcases on Saturday.

Also this weekend, I had a DIS meet in Atlanta! I got to meet up with @pkondz and @docsoliday1 at a restaurant near my house. We played a bit of pool which I'm horrible at and had a great meal. I was not in TR mode though and forgot to take a picture of my food. We did at least remember to take a picture of all of us together!

Moving on to Day 5.....

I have absolutely nothing planned on this day until noon in order to give John and Jocelyn time to sleep in. I have a feeling though that Mom, Jim and I will be up and moving much earlier than that. Jim rarely sleeps past 5 am and once he’s up I’m sure Mom and I will be also. I do hope we can sleep in a little bit to make up some sleep after the previous busy day.

Once we get ready, we will head to Epcot with or without John and Jocelyn. We will let them catch up to us whenever they feel like getting out of bed.

Our first order of the day will be lunch at the Food and Wine booths. My plan is for us to stick with the booths in Future World for lunch and then do dinner around World Showcase. This is mainly because we have FPs that afternoon in future world.

Our three FPs for the day are Spaceship Earth from 1:10 – 2:10 pm

Living With the Land from 2:20 – 3:20 pm

And Test Track from 3:25 – 4:25 pm

In between our FPs we will definitely visit the festival center and probably go visit the aquarium. I do plan to try to get us a fourth FP for Character Spot but have no idea if that will be possible. I don’t know how the availability is for that one now that it is Tier 1. But I really hope I can get it so we can do the nice pictures that Mom wants. If not, there is always the Visa Meet and Greet, it usually doesn’t have much of a line.

Once we start getting hungry again, we will head back to World Showcase and eat our way around the world for dinner. I’m sure we will stop at each country to explore and shop as we go. I also plan to stop at the front of WS and pick up a map for the Remy scavenger hunt. I loved doing the Easter egg and Figment ones in the past and want to give this one a try.

John, Jocelyn and Jim have expressed interest in the Eat to the Beat concerts but on this night its Kenny G and I don’t think he’s one they want to go to. If they do, Mom and I will just shop while they watch.

Once we have our fill of Food and Wine, we will probably head out early. None of us like Illuminations and want to stay to see it. I don’t even feel the need to see it again before it goes away.

Up Next: Day 6, Tuesday, October 23rd

Yay for a real life DISmeet! Sounds like it was a good time.

Your day at Epcot sounds great! Nice and laid back with lots of food hopefully :)

Caught up and joining in! Your purse/shirt combos are EVERYTHING. :worship:

I also started running in my 40's and hope to continue for a long time. I had never liked running (still days when I don't) and I never considered myself any sort of athlete, but now I am addicted! Your journey is inspiring! Almost as much as the purse/shirt wardrobe.

Looking forward to your trip report

I ended up getting the full price of EMM refunded to my credit card AND 5 free tickets to MNSSHP that night!

Wow! I didn't realize they give you BOTH the refund and tickets! That's awesome!

I want that too. All you have to do is scan in and leave for the four trips? I was thinking I had to visit the festival center or something :confused3

I am very much looking forward to this reservation as the food is right up my alley. Mom and I ate there in February and I loved the pot roast and mac and cheese.

I ended up making an ADR for Mike and me for our first day. It's so yummy, I'm looking forward to it! And that dessert is amazing, you need to try it!

I had a great time at the DIS meet. It's always fun meeting DIS board peeps in "real life".

I have almost $150 worth of Food and Wine items on my list but I doubt I'll get through all of them!

Thanks! I have one friend who makes the bags and a different friend who makes a lot of my shirts.

Thanks! I'm in a slump right now, haven't been on my treadmill in a few weeks. I really need to get back into it since I have a race coming up on 11/11!

Yep, Disney definitely knows how to compensate for cancelling something!

You don't have to do anything other than scan your band at the entrance on four different days in order to get the cutting board. You only have to go to the festival center on the 4th day to pick up your board. I'm just hoping they don't run out of them by the time we get there.

I'm really looking forward to LTT. It works well for me since the food is on the simpler side.

Sounds like a great plan! I can't imagine Kenny G draws the crowds for Eat the Beat, but you never know! :)

I'm not thinking he will be popular. I think I would end up falling asleep if I went to see him. :rotfl:

Day 6, Tuesday, October 23rd

Tuesday will be our first Animal Kingdom day. The park opens at 9 am but I don’t plan on pushing us to be there at rope drop. Like I’ve said before, John and Jocelyn are not morning people so I’d rather them be rested and happy than tired and grumpy.

Once we do get there, we will probably head towards Dinosaur. It’s one of John’s favorite rides and we don’t have a FP for it this day.

Our first FP for the day is the Safari from 10:20 – 11:20 am.

During the time we are near the Safari, we will almost certainly walk the Gorilla Falls trail. Everyone in my family except Jim loves to watch animals and could spend hours on these trails. Jim will be miserable but I don’t think he will say much with my Mom there.

Flame Tree Barbeque is another must do for John so that is where lunch will be.

Our second FP is for Flights of Passage from 2:05 – 3:05 pm

And our third is for Expedition Everest from 3:05 – 4:05 pm

In between those FPs I’m sure we will do some more animal watching and maybe catch a show or two. You all know my love for the Lion King show but waiting for it can be brutal so I may skip it for Mom’s sake. None of us have seen the new Up! A Great Bird Adventure so I think that will definitely be on the list. I’m pretty sure that John and Jocelyn haven’t seen Finding Nemo so that’s another possibility. Mom really dislikes that one though because of the super uncomfortable seats so maybe she and I can go shopping while the others watch it.

Dinner will be at Yak and Yeti at 5:45 pm. Last time we ate there I had the Fresh Catch of the day and it was excellent.

I doubt it will be the same dish this time but I think I might be a little adventurous and try the Bhaktapur Duck. Or maybe I’ll play it safe and get the burger. We shall see. I do know for a fact that I will be getting the Chocolate Pudding Cake for dessert. This was absolutely decadent and I can’t wait to have it again.

I made dinner a bit early so we could head back to Pandora afterwards to see it at night. I finally got to experience it in August but the rest of my group has not.

AK is only open until 8 pm on this night so it will be a nice early one for us.
