We check in on October 8. Yay! Can’t wait to see it in person! I was so concerned that all we would see was construction when I first booked. Such a nice surprise!

I would count on going to The Custom House.

Flying out 18th Oct for a 2wk stay at CB so will be taking pics and of course will update. We usually stay at POFQ and this will be our first stay at CB so will do some exploring and photo taking etc...

Just tried to book a room for June 2019 and the only room available is the standard room with a 5th sleeper. Would all the rooms be booked up this early or is this something to do with the refurbishment.

Very possible.

There is no room refurbishment going on now, nor is there one planned for the near future.

All the reports say that the changeover from Custom House to OPR will take place in the EARLY morning hours Monday.

Time will tell.

I booked 2 months ago for June online and couldn't get the non 5th room availability standard or otherwise. There's only 3 of us so know size wasn't the issue.

Sorry for delay re update. Soooo... no Centertown (yet)- a friendly CBR lanscaping cast member suggested updated ‘soft opening’ date is 10/9. I asked about why the delay vs rumored 10/1 and he commented on some irrigation kinks they are working through. I didn’t ask him to expand on this (irrigation problem) as I didn’t want to further disrupt his workday.

We are considering going to CBR Fall 2019. Do you think the pools will be less crowded since they took some rooms away, or will Riviera guests be allowed to use CBR pools?

Yes.

No. They are going to be 2 separate resorts. There won't be a way for guests of either resort to walk from one to the other.l with walking on the road.

That's interesting I hadn't seen that they wouldn't have a walking path between the 2 before. I guess another way would be to take the Skyliner between the two when that's running. Also maybe I'm misremembering but the main CBR pool needed a Magic Band to open the gate to get in?

Yeah, they really don't want it to appear that Riviera is attached to a Moderate when trying to get top dollar for their newest DVC property. They are going to great lengths to keep them visually and physically separated.

I guess another way would be to take the Skyliner between the two when that's running.

Yup. CBR guests will be able to use the Skyliner to get to ADRs at the rooftop restaurant which will have pretty good views for multiple fireworks shows. But I can't see any reason Riviera guests will want to go to CBR.

As of last summer a Magic Band was not needed to open the pool gate. Maybe that's changed but I have not heard/read that.

You're right, I think I'm remembering using a Magic Band for Stormalong Bay then.

Even if uncommon, I could see someone at Riviera wanting to walk around and check out the beautiful property at CBR. I could also see Disney not wanting to have them connected as much as possible considering the differences with both resorts.

I called guest services again this morning. We check in on Saturday, using magical express, with checked bags. However I have a friend dropping off an additional bag with Bell services for us. I talked to Bell services at Caribbean Beach resort. I asked where to drop off that bag on Saturday, October 6. They said definitely Custom House. I then asked when Old Port Royale would be open. They said Monday morning, October 8

Yep same here..booked in August for June..wanted a preferred room but none were available.

I can't wait for my vacation to start on the 24th November. We have stayed at POR before but CBR was quite a bit cheaper when we booked last year (from the UK).
Knowing about the construction did make me think we should have stuck with the POR. However, now the new restaurants are going to be open I am really looking forward to staying at the CBR. From the photographs I love the room design, modern quick service and re imagined central area is going to make this (I think) a moderate hard to beat.

CBR was our favorite Moderate by far even before all the upgrades. Really can't wait to stay now! Come on May!

There is nothing more exciting than being at WDW when something brand new opens!

OPR will very much still have that "brand new feel" when you arrive!

And you will get to see how they decorate the "new" OPR for the Holidays for the very first time!
