New ticket system coming to WDW - Begins October 16th

Will this work? I always buy Disney tickets direct from Disney using Disney GCs bought at my local grocery story where I get 2% cashback using my Chase Freedom plus 4x fuel points.

A. This allows me to save much more than I would if I purchased through a reseller. I need to buy my GC by tomorrow to get the extra fuel points.
B. But I'm thinking I should wait until October 15 to see if my tickets will actually go up on the 16th. Will we even know anything on the 15th? Will it be such a zoo I could risk not getting through? If I decide not to purchase them yet, I can still use the GC on next year's DVC maintenance fees, so it doesn't hurt me to go ahead and buy the GC.
C. Just wondering if I should go ahead and purchase now or wait until the 15th.
A. 2%? (But, if the fuel points are significant, that's cool.)
B. I would not do that.
C. Purchase now.

Well, I usually wait to buy all my GCs during the quarter that I get 5% on groceries with my Chase Freedom card. The cashback is not where the savings are though. It's the fuel points. For a $1000 GC, I will get 4000 fuel points (with a downloaded coupon). That's $4 work of gas x 35 gallons, for a savings of $140. When I get the 5% cashback plus the 4x fuel points, I save 19%! This is how I pay for all my food at WDW and my DVC maintenance fees each year. Right now, I'll just get the 2% cashback, so a savings of 16%. Tomorrow (since my ecoupon expires), I plan on buying a $700 GC, and get $112 back in cashback and fuel points.

Thanks for letting me know I should go ahead and buy. I am officially on fall break right now so I have time to take care of it. Are we 100% sure the Disney tickets I buy now online expire December 31, 2019, and can be used next October?

While nobody can guarantee ANYTHING...
that's what the info on the WDW ticket page states.

The 1-Day Ticket: Magic Kingdom Park is valid for one admission to Magic Kingdom park on a date that is valid for the ticket type (Peak, Regular or Value). This ticket must be used on or before December 31, 2019 and is not valid at Epcot or Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Disney’s Animal Kingdom park.

The 1-Day Ticket: Epcot or Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park is valid for one admission to any one of these 3 parks on a date that is valid for the ticket type (Peak, Regular or Value). This ticket must be used on or before December 31, 2019 and is not valid at Magic Kingdom park.

Multi-day tickets are valid for one theme park per day for each day of the ticket. The first use must be on or before December 31, 2019.

Multi-day tickets and any options purchased must be used within 14 days of first use, except for Florida Resident 3-Day and 4-Day Tickets. Florida Resident 3-Day and 4-Day Tickets expire 180 days after first use. First use must occur on or before December 31, 2019.

I was thinking of doing the same thing - room discount this summer and change bounce back to December. I was wondering if I could save my bounce back tickets to use in December with a room discount but noticed they had an expiration date that coincides with my July trip. Do your tickets expire along with your bounce back trip too?

I was also considering doing this. I believe my package tickets don't expire until the end of December 2019. Where did you see that your tickets expire with your trip?

Edited to add......yep, you're right. I can see it now on the app. My tickets are also listed as expiring on the last day of my bounceback. Sneaky. I could have sworn I saw them as expiring on Dec. 31st 2019 last month. I wonder if they changed that on all package tickets? :confused3

I know, I thought they would expire the same as stand alone tickets. I purchased some hoppers for my kids for next month to upgrade to an AP and they don’t expire until Jan 2020. Now i’m torn, but leaning toward changing my bounce back to December and just not renewing the APs next year.

I just got off the phone with Disney. I called the bounceback number. I decided to change my four day tickets to ten day tickets. The CM told me that my bounceback tickets absolutely don't expire until the end of December 2019. She can't see that they expire at all on my check out day like I can. Weird. But hopeful, I guess.

Thanks for the info! I’ll have to call and add days too

I just keep thinking about what a short-sighted move this is - particularly with the fluctuating expirations.

My group be in Orlando next year for a conference. We’re going to fly down a few days early, spend some days at the park. Conference is Weds through Sat, ends Sat noon. We haven’t finalized travel plans, but with the ability to add a day for $10 I’m thinking we’d likely move back to WDW on Saturday afternoon ($ for hotel,) go to a park and get a TS dinner ($) and ride a few last favorites before heading home Sunday. With the new structure, our tix will have expired - so we’ll just fly home Sat afternoon. Not a huge deal, in the scheme of things, but they’re losing several hundred dollars by shortening the expiration.

@CarrieR - I agree that the new expiration restrictions are probably the most frustrating and questionable of the changes. We all know and expect prices to increase. But changing the duration of the ticket validity? It absolutely limits the flexibility of travelers and I think it will end up costing Disney some revenue. However, maybe they think that the ability to right-size their staff based on this new ticketing structure will offset any potential losses due to inflexibility of the tickets.

OTOH, you can pay extra to get flexible tickets. Of course it's an upcharge that used to be a given with tickets. >:(

I'm really wondering what will happen if you just let your tickets expire. I'm wondering if they just go poof? Or, will you be able to re activate expired tickets at a later date by paying that flexible ticket fee.

I'm going to guess that it'll be similar to today's tickets after the 14 day use period. The new tickets just shortens that use period but you could pay extra for a 14 day use. I would think if you haven't used any days, you would be able to exchange the value if the tickets for different tickets.

That is also what I am thinking and hoping.

So we always buy same park day tix and decide when we get there if we need PH’s, usually we don’t but sometimes we do. I wonder if using at least one day then going to guest services to add on the PH without upcharge of ticket price will still apply with the new system? We have tix bought already for June.

1. I wonder if using at least one day then going to guest services to add on the PH without upcharge of ticket price will still apply with the new system?
2. We have tix bought already for June.

1. There is no need to "use at least one day" of a ticket in order to upgrade (add the Hopper or otherwise) under the present ticket system. That doesn't affect the ability to upgrade (or the cost) at all.

2. If you do want to upgrade an "older" ticket after an interim price increase, you ARE (even currently) required to pay the difference in the cost between the "older" ticket and the "newer" ticket on the date of the upgrade. That's true now, and likely will be the case with the upcoming ticket change.

VERY confusing.. Anyone know what will happen if you have old non-expiring tickets from years ago ( I mean MANY years ago 10-15 yrs ago that were preserved on new media)? Those tickets were sold as ANYTIME tickets, will Disney still honor those? If so, wouldn't it benefit someone holding those NOT to use them if they want a 'slow' time and hang on to them until there is a peak? Wil the new 'slower' period tickets be cheaper then the current anytime tickets sold now? Its very confusing.
