New ticket system coming to WDW - Begins October 16th

Hi.

I have stays for January and September 2019.
My mom will have visits for January, April, September.
I am DVC so we stay at DVC resorts and never with a package.

I planned on her purchasing Platinum AP, no blackout date since the April visit is over Easter.
If she purchases now, and not activated until we arrive in January, do most think that the pass would be
"grandfathered" with the "no blackout dates". I am going to very much ask her to purchase before
the October 16 rollout.

My dd will also need a four day ticket and guess that we will get prior to October 16, since we are going in January (January 4-12).

I read through all the pages (23) from last night/tonight and is it correct that if I am not a package and have a four day ticket
and staying 8 nights, I can use the 4 nights whenever I want during that stay.

Thank you.

Hi.

Can anyone please help me with above.

Given what I said about the APs, do you think we should purchase the DVC and regular Platinum APs without expiration? The APs wont be activated until January so wondering if they will be affected by the change if they change Platinum APs to having blackout dates. If it were activated, I would say no but if I just have the paper Im just not sure. What would you guess.

The four day ticket will be purchased prior to October 16.

Since I'm js's mom I'm hoping that someone may have some answers to my DD's questions above.
Basically, for me, I'd like to know if I purchase the Platinum AP now but don't activate till my January trip do you think the pass would be "grandfathered in" with the no blackout dates, since my April trip is during Easter week.

TIA to all who may be able to shed some light on this.

I wonder if this will change the frequency of rebooking. Do a lot of people book for Date X, then later change to Date Y? If the new policy results in even 5% fewer booking changes, that is potential savings in CM costs. More importantly, it gives them more stable data in predicting crowds, which could also result in savings on CM scheduling, special events, food planning etc. We'll probably never know the end financial impact, but I bet there is some poor Disney financial analyst who's boss will expect them to figure it out.

I can’t renew my pass until the end of October, so I miss it by two weeks. I am debating the merits of buying a brand new platinum pass voucher instead of renewing. What are the odds they will go up more than the 15% renewal discount?

It could be close. DL passes went up 17-18% during their last price hike. When is your first trip after you will renew? Every month you won't visit is ~8%. If you are going to skip a month or two of visits, then it could be worth buying a new voucher.

I'm only guessing, but the blockout dates I would worry about are December 2019 (and possibly November 2019 if you are an optimist about SWGE being finished by then). They almost certainly won't change/add blockout dates on days during the next 12 months.

My current AP expires the last week in December and my next trip is late January 2019. There are three and a half weeks between them. So waiting isn’t going to save me anything like it would if my next trip was March or May. I just don’t want to feel like I got taken advantage of, and I’m not sure which way to go. Would it also cause me issues with FP for the January trip if I am waiting to activate a new pass? I have always renewed as soon as I was allowed, so that has never been an issue. It doesn’t help that last year I happened to renew the day before the price increases, so I am getting hit with two increases over what I paid last year.

You would be fine either way, FP-wise. A voucher can book FPs. That said, if I were you I would personally risk the increase being <15% (probably, it's a toss up).

I wonder how this will affect military discounted tickets and military discounts for the resorts. Since you can't buy a military package through WDW and have to buy the tickets separate from the room reservation. Would be nice if they would offer the military rate as a package and then just show proof of service at check in like Disney Cruise line does. Right now we can only get military tickets from local military MWRs, Shades of Green, or at Guest Services. With the new way they will be doing it, not sure how they can structure the military discount based on seasonal pricing. Or if they will just be a flat rate like they are now but just increasing the price and they are good Dec-Dec.
Or, they could completely discontinue the Military Salute tickets, because they don't fit the new structure. They were never a guarantee, I always figured they would figure out a way to snatch it away.

What are the odds they will go up more than the 15% renewal discount? If I buy a new voucher, there’s approximately a $117 difference in price (including tax) over the current renewal rate, but it also puts me right at where I budgeted for the new pass this year. But knowing how the DL passholders were gouged with a huge increase not too long ago, I am really nervous about how high the increase could be if I wait. Anyone else in the same boat renewal wise?

I’m in the same boat. I’m buying new vouchers instead of renewing.

Just wait until October 15th. The new prices will have most likely leaked by then

Okay. I just read through all the posts on this thread and can’t help but wonder if Disney realizes the increase in heart rate that cause with stuff like this.

I just purchased four 10 day park hoppers from UCT with plans to upgrade to annual passes when we go at the end of December.

Should we stick with that plan?
Should we return them and purchase an AP voucher directly from Disney now?
Should we link them and upgrade them to annual passes through the website (not even sure if this is an option)?

To make things more complicated my mom plans to go with us in March so she could need a ticket.

But if they do something like add black out days it could ruin all of our plans as we are only going at “busy” times: Dec 29-Jan 5, Spring Break, June, and Thanksgiving.

Any advise?

This makes me want to tear my hair out. Remember how Disney used to pride themselves on their ticket media, how once you paid for a ticket the days were good forever, any day of any year? Boy, are those days gone. I'm also thinking that the concept of "the longer you stay, the cheaper the days become" and being able to add on additional days on a multi-day ticket for minimal cost are over.

I had an amazing Disney vacation with my daughter in August. I've been thinking that maybe we should go out on a high note, that maybe this whole new ticket process is what will finally make me say DONE with Disney.

The mousesavers/UT link is in the 1st post of the Ticket Sticky at the top of this forum.

Or, you can go to mousesavers.com - main page.

Just a quick note about the link to our (MouseSavers') page in the ticket sticky - that's all stuff we wrote, and we wouldn't want people to think it's from Undercover Tourist. Most of it is from our reading all the public information Disney has put out there, and some of it is our assumptions. We've tried to make clear when we're making an educated guess. We feel pretty confident it's good info or we wouldn't put it out there, but it's always possible we've guessed wrong, or we've been told something will work a certain way and then Disney changes their mind before they roll the new tickets out.

Undercover Tourist is very constrained about what information they can put out because they're under non-disclosure from Disney. They helped us understand how they will be handling these new tickets, but they don't share non-public info with us about Disney.

Thanks! @Robo will be able to adjust his info.

I don't think we have enough info to answer all the questions on APs yet. Probably why noone has answered your daughter. I also have AP questions and am waiting till it is all implemented to see what happens.

The room discount offers for early next year are out! I was thinking they might postpone until *after* October 16th, but thankfully, they are out.

THANK YOU, vinotinto! I just saved almost $500 on our BC stay next year! It almost makes up for buying our tickets earlier than I had expected.
