A Successful September-W.I.S.H. Goals

Glss 1/2full, you have your hands full! Hugs to little ones and here’s hoping they settle in soon.
Your post got me thinking though-meal planning is so important when we have a lot going on-and can be one less thing to stress about if we have a few good options on hand. Here’s our topic for Tuesday:

What are some of your favorite quick and healthy options for meals?

One of ours is a rotisserie chicken, a salad or steamed broccoli (my grandson likes to dip his in ranch dressing) and baked beans or rolls for everyone not watching their calories. Another is steamed shrimp with a salad, corn and a crusty roll. While the seafood department steams the shrimp I make a salad and call home to tell my husband to put the water on for the corn. Watermelon or cantaloupe for dessert-if my grandson is with us, I buy those small cups of ice cream for him as well.

Quick healthy meals. This is my down fall. We do eat a lot of grilled or backed chicken with rice and a veggie. But I get bored with this.

Going out to eat! Seriously, having someone else feed me is always the best option. Other than that, during the summer my go-to's were Watermelon Salad or Caprese Salad and lately I've been having Tuna salad with nut crackers. Last night I really wanted to stress eat, and kept cruising the pantry but couldn't find anything to munch on other than pistachio nuts. Not a bad snack I guess.

This morning it is quite obvious that I have caught the crud that is going around and I do have a cold. Hopefully it won't be a bad one and I am glad I'm getting it this week and not next, as work is going to get progressively crazier that next few weeks, and first week of October I have a business trip. Feeling off added to my stress levels yesterday... when I left work all I wanted to do was go home, curl up and watch the Seahawk's game, but it was on a different channel with a different group of announcers who were kind of annoying and again the 'hawks were playing so badly I had to change the channel.

Oh no, sorry you are not feeling well-having food that’s good for you and also something you like is even more important! Do you have some good places for soup? Our local grocery store makes a wonderful kale and sausage soup. I’m like “why should I go to the trouble of making this??”

Hi all, I'm back from a great trip, hope everyone had a great week while I was gone!

I'm one of the pickiest people on planet earth so unfortunately I eat the same thing pretty much everyday, but one of my go-too snacks lately has been hummas and pita chips or carrots.

Hi all, I'm back from a great trip, hope everyone had a great week while I was gone!

welcome back! I hope you had a great trip!!

Some of my quick options are:

whole wheat pasta with zucchini: boil pasta, in the meantime cut up zucchini (I use at least one small one per person, but also have used more to lower the amount of pasta), in small pieces (half slices or quarter slices), put some olive oil in a pan, add crushed garlic and then the zucchini, stir regularly and let the zucchini cook. They should still have some bite. When they are done, add some basil, salt and pepper and a little lemon juice, toss with the pasta and serve with parmesan cheese.

lentil soup: Boil red lentils with a teaspoon of kurkuma, once they are done, crush a couple of cloves of garlic with the side of a blade of a knife, so that they are just falling apart. Heat some oil in a pan, throw in the garlic, two teaspoons of cumin seeds and a whole dried red chili. Let it just get brown, then open the lid of the lentil pot, throw it all in and quickly close lid of pot again. Let the spices infuse the lentils for 5 minutes or so. Add some salt to taste before serving. I usually add some greek yoghurt to the soup (like sour creme for a pumpkin soup).

Welcome back Mike! Hope you had a great trip!
Flossbolna, your recipe sounds delicious! And my friends with gardens are always giving away zucchini, so I will definitely be trying this.

:yay::yay::yay:Woo-hoo Wednesday!

I think this is my favorite of the days we check in! I love hearing about your successes and what is working for you as you get to your goals.

My woo-hoo is the weather is so beautiful we decided to stay at the beach until Monday. I’m sitting on the deck now looking at the water and enjoying my breakfast. Will take a long walk on the beach and pack my lunch so I won’t be tempted by the local sandwich place!

Woohoo...
On Wednesday's I have a reoccurring meeting where I have to present a project status to a group that includes VP's, and I've gotten to the point where I don't need to take notes with me, I'm comfortable "winging it".

I have my second Pilates class tonight, I couldn't go last week because of the baseball game. I really do need to practice more at home though, because one class a week isn't going to be enough. But I enjoyed the first class, so I'm looking forward to it.

One of my goals this winter is to join a gym so I can take classes like these-my insurance will pay for a membership once I turn 65, so I am anxious to take advantage of that benefit.

That's a great benefit! I've tried yoga several times and just didn't love it, but Pilates I like, even though it's hard to do!

I forgot it is Wednesday. Having my schedule reduced by 1 child being gone has really thrown me off this week. I have not good woohoo's for my weight loss journey. That has been pretty bad lately. Like eating 2 candy bars yesterday for dinner. It was bad. I need to get on track and fast.

My woohoo is I am taking Friday off. DH deiced to take the day off because he was picking DD up at school at like noon when she gets back from camp and he will be staying up supper late to watch the Browns play the Jets on Thursday. Yes Football again. So I decided to take the day too and surprise DD. DH and I will have a date morning since DS will be in school and we will have a few hours before having to pick up DD. We don't go on dates much. Like maybe once or twice a year. We have been considering grocery shopping our date time. So this is much needed.

Good morning! It’s Thursday already-hope everyone is having a good week so far.

After hearing about Oneanne taking a Pilates classs, I thought we could share some of the classes or experiences we’ve taken or are taking now. Which ones did you like? Were there any that you didn’t like?

I took a weight training class with a personal trainer that I really liked. By weights, I mean my little 5lb dumb bells and different exercises using them and a large balance ball-also a weighted ball. I still do these at home. I would recommend working with a trainer for a couple sessions because I think it would be easy otherwise to do things incorrectly.
My not so successful class was a water aerobics class at the local YMCA. The instructor played loud music so you couldn’t hear her, the other ladies were there to socialize and talked all through the lesson and I couldn’t balance on that pool noodle to save my life! Plus it was winter and I hated going outside with wet hair!

I took Hapkido (Korean form of karate). This is what my son does. It is great for learning self defense. I really liked the class as it was a really good leg/core workout. The days we did kids I was sore for days. I had to stop over a summer because of the kids sports and after that summer he stopped doing the adult class. I can join the kids class but that just feels awkward and that is my time to catch up with friends of mine that have kids in the class too.

Like: I first took Pilates back in 2016 and did it for about 6 months. I really enjoyed it and felt great, but stopped when I started to put weight back on. I know that sounds counter-intuitive and it probably is, but I got so heavy I didn't have any range of motion and had trouble breathing. I liked the place I was going to, but when I decided to take it up again I remembered how I wasn't sure I was getting enough attention/correction. So this time I chose a different studio that only has 4 machines, because I knew that would keep the classes small. Last night I was the only one in class so I had one-on-one coaching and she chose moves specifically for me - it was awesome and I feel more grounded and sure of what I'm doing.

Didn't like: I've tried yoga multiple times but never taken to it. The worst experience was an "Intro" class, that was described as covering the basics. The studio was huge and there were 30+ people in the class and "Intro" turned out to be the instructor introducing us to a random selection of positions regardless of how difficult they were... she was basically teaching to the front row. I never went back.

I’ve tried yoga as well, but never felt comfortable doing it.
You’ve got me intrigued by Pilates now-I’m going to check out studios when I get home. And I will keep in mind the size of the classes.

I’ve heard martial arts are such a good work out! I hope you find a way to continue!

Back in the day I took Jazzercise. Later I took a weight lifting class followed by a step class. That was wonderful. Now my knees can't do step and I am not coordinated enough to do Zumba. I've taken Pilates once but it really hurt my neck so never went back. I've also taken water aerobics and didn't find them hard enough. I got a better work out just swimming laps. I really like yoga. I'm lousy at it, but I try (sorta!). I cannot wait for tomorrow because Fridays are restorative yoga and I will be a blob at the end. I so need to be a blob.

For some reason there wasn't enough chocolate today. I had six Hershey nuggets and then two Lindt dark chocolate balls. I would gladly eat a Haagen Dazs ice cream bar right now except I'm over calories!

One of my go to meals is pasta, peas and mushrooms with a bit of half and half. easy peasy I also have a lentil soup I make in 45 minutes. Cup of lentils, 4 c water, lemon pepper seasoning. It calls for asparagus, but I rarely have that and I always have a can of green beans. Throw that in and blend it all up. Add some Swiss cheese until it melts and dinner is done!

Happy Friday! This week just flew by-did you all have a good week? Check in when you have a minute and let us know how things are going for you.

I was able to get a good walk in every day-and I felt like I had a better handle on what I was eating. I could have done better, but I could have done worse! We don’t have a scale here, so it will be interesting to see the results of my relaxed meal choices when I get home Monday.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!
