says the guy that almost told me it was okay to do a hard pull for a 2 liter bottle of coke. XD

we all make are choices. it's still up to the applicant to decide to go with it.
personally have been blamed for giving advice and it being backfiring on me. :-/
Oh @Albort - it's been me and you on DISchurners since the beginning my friend! LOL.

Meh, it sucks but everyone knows the game always changes, you can only give advice based on what is known at the time. You have no reason to feel like a jerk! People will still be traveling for free, it will just take more effort. :D

@SouthFayetteFan - you can only give advice based on current conditions....those conditions change - and often in this game. The game is still playable, and URs still hold value.

Let this be a lesson to all - diversify your travel rewards portfolio.

1- anytime in the future no set date
2- South America 1st goal
3- whatever's cheapest
4-in NE, can do NYC or Boston easily too
5-no player 2
6- no side hustle, no biz cards please
7- I believe 1/24 since any other cards are older than 24 months.

Ok, because of 1, 3 and 7 I am going to go with suggesting started my with CSP. Then, pick up a Freedom for 5x to speed the earning potential. Most of the time when it comes to economy flights you are better off using UR to pay for them than a miles transfer. When the time comes, your friend can upgrade to a CSR to make the miles more valuable and after redeeming, downgrade back to the CSP.

A secondary route would be AA miles since there is a hub in NY. They are easy to pick up since there are two card issuers, Citi and Barclay.

I loved getting the deluxe dining plan with points. I may just be better off booking through Disney and redeeming for cash. I feel like Disney rooms are so overpriced on Expedia especially if I could get an AP rate. It was so nice getting an AP rate and using the CSR.

Yeah, this likely seals the deal on dining plan for my trip next year. If I'm paying cash, it's definitely not going to be worth it now. I'll just take advantage of every Disney GC deal I can and go from there.

Thanks - I think we are definitely need to put some disclaimers out there going forward with people though. I mean there's a ton of us here handing out advice (and all of it is GOOD advice). I think the big takeaway now is (1) Emphasizing a FLEXIBLE strategy; (2) Having multiple uses for the points; (3) Making sure people are aware that things can change at any time, with no notice. I'm SURE nobody will come back to me or @Lain or anybody who advised them to get a card and be upset.

Also if this change affects you and you aren't sure what to do - let's discuss it! Don't overreact and just cash out your URs. We can work through this, there are a lot of ways to travel to Disney. PLUS I want to see how the booking hotels with URs pans out because as I said in an earlier comment for a lot of people 40%+ of their Disney cost is in the hotels.

My disney trip is April so i'm still going to wait it out and see if the hotel booking comes back. If not, I have a CA trip planned for summer so I'll have no problem using the URs then. I'd rather use the 1.5 redemption rate for that rather than cashing out to cover the disney trip. But I would probably cancel the card in a year, my biggest purpose for the CSR was the disney trips. Was really hoping to get a dining plan on points too. DH and I were going to live it up on a kidless trip. :-)

Yeah - In general it's somewhat complex to analyze this change overall.

Yesterday: I could book at 1.50x with URs
Now: I can cash out URs at 1.0x, sign up for a new card, meet an MSR buying discounted Disney Gift Cards, then use them on my trip...

There's like a ton of layers to the new plan but I bet it can come close to the old value, LOL.

I love the dining plan. It will be so hard for me to go without it. We did three nights so the total for the deluxe dining plan was $690. We went to California Grill and each got $75 steaks and the total was $270. Le Cellier was $220. So an extra $200 and we got five meals, 12 snacks and 2 mugs. I’m going to have to change the way I eat lol.

ETA: we got three bottles of Evian water at California grill. So $21 was spent on water. I would die if I had to pay, but it was nice to be treated on the dining plan.

I am not sure which one will use less URs. But I believe if you book through the portal you will earn jet blue points on the flight. Something to consider.

Totally get what you mean. I LOVE the dining plan, and we did DxDP on our honeymoon and ate at all those places too lol. If it was just DH and I going, I'd do the dining plan again in a heartbeat. But my MIL has had gastric bypass and has the appetite of a bird, and my mom is vegetarian. We would never even come CLOSE to getting our money's worth out of the dining plan if we're just paying for it straight. I was willing to do it at 1.5 cpp, but not anymore.

I blame the Tesla guy for everything wrong in my life. I have a cold today...Tesla Guy... Spilled wing sauce on my shorts today...Tesla Guy...

I've had a headache since Tuesday... Tesla Guy. Ok, probably barometric changes from the hurricane, but whatever.

It really depends on where you're located. I fly RIC to MCO. Roundtrip Jetblue with points can be as low as 9,600 points. The cash price is $157 though. So with a CSR redemption, it would be 10,466 URs. I come out ahead transferring URs to Jetblue.

So...I said I was rattled the other day, and I still am now...even worse.

The weird thing though is I am MUCH MORE upset about all the (now) bad advice I gave newer folks here though than my own loss (the ability to book Disney with URs). I REALLY REALLY am feeling sad about all the people (here, on reddit, in real life) who I have advising up to this point and now all these changes/issues. I honestly don't even know what to say...I know it's not my fault and yet I feel ilke a complete and utter jerk.

EDIT: This is just crazy - I was helping my Pastor at church earn enough URs for a Disney trip next fall, I was advising friends and family on the double dip and now they may have points in limbo...Wow...not to mention all our friends here where we've openly discussed/advised using URs.

I couldn’t have wrote this better myself.

@SouthFayetteFan, you gave the best advice based on your own experience, and what was known and could have reasonably been expected. The double dip existed long before the one card/bonus per family rules popped up; and even though it was a loophole that could’ve been patched at any time, no one thought Chase would go back and cancel cards it already approved. And Disney, hotels at least, have been bookable with URs for years. That’s what got me into this game two years ago — because we took a trip to WDW, stayed in a Magic Kingdom view room at the Grand Floridian and an Arusha Savanna view room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, wanted to do it again, but didn't want to settle for anything less, but also didn’t want to pay full price for it. No one saw Chase dropping Disney as a redemption option. I’m still hopeful it’s temporary, but the worst case is still one where URs are worth 1 cpp that can pay for a Disney vacation in cash, statement credit, or apparently still bookable through the Freedom portals.

I did my own share of soul searching when Plastiq 3x died on the CIP. Everyone knows I was a big cheerleader of this method for generating lots of UR from regular bills. I always advised that the coding could change suddenly at any time, but it still hit me hard when it finally did end, especially for those who only got on the ride very recently. I tell myself that we do our best to share good deals, tips and tricks, we do our best to discuss based on our experiences how things have worked in the past and what we think might happen, and help others evaluate the risk and come to their own decisions. There are just so many things outside of our control. We ultimately are playing in the banks’ house, and they can change the rules at any time.

It probably won't surprise many of you that I don't drink... hahaha!

But you know what...I will survive this...yes I will...We ALL will :)

At first I was afraid, I was petrified
Kept thinking Chase would always be right there just at my side
But then she went and changed the rules oh how you did me wrong
And I grew strong
And I learned how to get along
And so I'll burn
URs from Chase
I just won't let you see that disappointment on my face
I should have known you'd make a change, I should have not waited to see
If I'd known for just one second, you'd turn your back on me
Go on now, go, Take your cruises and Tour
Just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore
Did you just think I'd give up on this and just stop to try
Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
Do you think I'd crumble
Did you think I'd lay down and die?
Oh no, not I, I will survive
Oh, as long as I know how to Churn, I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live
And I've got all my spend to give and I'll survive
I will survive, hey, hey

Oh, @calypso726 would really enjoy this! :rockband:

@SouthFayetteFan and others feeling bad because of advice you have given - remember that people make their own choices and must do their own research. Many here have advised me to consider the CSR and business cards. I didn't feel that was the right way for me to pursue this game and have no regrets.

@Lain taught me how to maximize earning United Miles. I still did my own research before using MPX. That had its hiccups but @Lain was not to blame.

We have all learned so much from each other here. No one should be feeling bad about any advice given as ultimitatley it is up to the individual on how they want to go about using or not using CC.
