I love credit cards so much!

So...I said I was rattled the other day, and I still am now...even worse.

The weird thing though is I am MUCH MORE upset about all the (now) bad advice I gave newer folks here though than my own loss (the ability to book Disney with URs). I REALLY REALLY am feeling sad about all the people (here, on reddit, in real life) who I have advising up to this point and now all these changes/issues. I honestly don't even know what to say...I know it's not my fault and yet I feel ilke a complete and utter jerk.

EDIT: This is just crazy - I was helping my Pastor at church earn enough URs for a Disney trip next fall, I was advising friends and family on the double dip and now they may have points in limbo...Wow...not to mention all our friends here where we've openly discussed/advised using URs.

Ugh. I was hoping to spend my non existent Chase points to book a Disney hotel. :sad2: I sure hope we can at least book a hotel only reservation, or there really wasn't any point in getting the Chase cards. Well, if there are no bonus points, there also wasn't any point.

@SouthFayetteFan - I appreciate the help you have given me. And I got into this always knowing that things could change at any moment. I've had airline redemptions go way up right before I was ready to book, along with other things like this. Please don't feel bad on my account.

Meh, it sucks but everyone knows the game always changes, you can only give advice based on what is known at the time. You have no reason to feel like a jerk! People will still be traveling for free, it will just take more effort. :D

sorry to all who were screwed by Chase today.

Chase has been on a killing spree! We’re coming up on one month since Chase killed Plastiq coding 3x UR on CIP. On 8/28, Chase changed the bonus terms on the Sapphires to 48 months. This week, Chase began manually reviewing double dips and canceling cards going back who knows how long. And yesterday, it looks like they (mostly?) killed UR redemptions for Disney.

It’s been a bloody month. Am I missing anything?

I feel the same way. I just convinced three family members to go for cards for my wedding. And now I have no idea what they should do. I never managed to get people to go along with this in real life but once I start it all blows up. They must think I’m crazy.

If Chase still allows booking Disney hotels with URs at 1.5x this won't be a bloodbath with regards to Disney.

When I look at my upcoming trip, 60% of the "Disney Cost" was related to Hotel; 25% was Tickets and 15% was Dining. With this supposed upcoming move to Expedia...Dining is DEFINITELY lost. Hotel is POSSIBLY (Likely??) still available and Tickets is POSSIBLY up in the air.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out...

I know - of course I always have pointed out the fallback cash option and they still get a lot of value that way vs. using the dumb Credit Union CC or whatever they had before...It still feels like I (unintentionally) misled them and that frustrates me too.

Oh and we are crazy!! No doubt about that... :)

You can control what you can control. You have given sound advice and it's not your fault that Chase moved the goal posts. You have helped many people with good intentions. I think we all appreciate your input and assitance :)

Do you drink? Pour yourself a stiff whatever your favorite is and breathe :) You did the best you could and every single person who got a card at your suggestion will turn a profit. Not as much as expected or as fast as expected but at the end of the day all of them will have hundreds of dollars more than before they got the card. Even double dippers are being allowed to keep one of the cards! The CSP is $405 cash, CSR $445 if they hit the pre-check benefit $350 if they don’t. It’s not what you said was possible but those are still some pretty great bonuses man! You’ve still done good.

I loved getting the deluxe dining plan with points. I may just be better off booking through Disney and redeeming for cash. I feel like Disney rooms are so overpriced on Expedia especially if I could get an AP rate. It was so nice getting an AP rate and using the CSR.

That’s what someone said that even cashback is better than what they were using before but the URs are worth so much more than 1.0. At least they were....

Thanks - I think we are definitely need to put some disclaimers out there going forward with people though. I mean there's a ton of us here handing out advice (and all of it is GOOD advice). I think the big takeaway now is (1) Emphasizing a FLEXIBLE strategy; (2) Having multiple uses for the points; (3) Making sure people are aware that things can change at any time, with no notice. I'm SURE nobody will come back to me or @Lain or anybody who advised them to get a card and be upset.

Also if this change affects you and you aren't sure what to do - let's discuss it! Don't overreact and just cash out your URs. We can work through this, there are a lot of ways to travel to Disney. PLUS I want to see how the booking hotels with URs pans out because as I said in an earlier comment for a lot of people 40%+ of their Disney cost is in the hotels.

They are still worth cash in cash out and they are still fairly easy to earn although they've effectively devalued for Disney. And, at least half the points will come. And there are other cards. And, life goes on.

I’d be happy to help but the newbie needs to answer a few questions before pointing them in the right direction.

When is the trip?

Where is the trip?

Do they plan to fly in coach, business, or first?

Is their home airport a hub for a particular airline or are they near an airport that is a hub?

Is there a Player 2?

Do they have a legit side hustle or are they comfortable having a “business”

What is their */24 status?

Excellent advice!
1- anytime in the future no set date
2- South America 1st goal
3- whatever's cheapest
4-in NE, can do NYC or Boston easily too
5-no player 2
6- no side hustle, no biz cards please
7- I believe 1/24 since any other cards are older than 24 months.

says the guy that almost told me it was okay to do a hard pull for a 2 liter bottle of coke. XD

we all make are choices. it's still up to the applicant to decide to go with it.
personally have been blamed for giving advice and it being backfiring on me. :-/

It probably won't surprise many of you that I don't drink... hahaha!

But you know what...I will survive this...yes I will...We ALL will :)

At first I was afraid, I was petrified
Kept thinking Chase would always be right there just at my side
But then she went and changed the rules oh how you did me wrong
And I grew strong
And I learned how to get along
And so I'll burn
URs from Chase
I just won't let you see that disappointment on my face
I should have known you'd make a change, I should have not waited to see
If I'd known for just one second, you'd turn your back on me
Go on now, go, Take your cruises and Tour
Just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore
Did you just think I'd give up on this and just stop to try
Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
Do you think I'd crumble
Did you think I'd lay down and die?
Oh no, not I, I will survive
Oh, as long as I know how to Churn, I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live
And I've got all my spend to give and I'll survive
I will survive, hey, hey
