I love credit cards so much!

heh, i had a big car problem last month. After returning from my trip to seattle, i thought all is well until i drove my car back from my parents house. Car overheated and started making a weird noise. called for a tow was told i needed to wait 1 hour. This was after the flight from SEA delayed 2 hours after finding out when going to the gate. so here i am at 2:30am waiting for a tow... i decided to wing it home and i did.
Day 2 i called for a tow to my mechanic. Amex Plat Biz covered 10 miles free, mechanic is exactly 10 miles away so free tow yay! Now the bad news, car has a crack on the engine block. engine needs replacing. :\

So what now, my dad thought its time for him to upgrade his 220k mile corolla(which is given to me) and get himself a prius prime.

i still cant believe there is a crack on my engine block... you need to like... super abuse your car to do that... :\ mechanic said i had some terrible luck... This is after dropping $700 on fixing my steering wheel pump and $500 on brand spankin new tires 2 months ago... :\

off topic of course... i feel super unlucky... im over today. haha.
I'm really appreciating Dh's car fixing abilities after reading all these stories..... of course his massive DIY skills make it hard to meet MSR at times.... even our new roof is about $800 in supplies (sigh...at least we maxed out our Lowes/Amex offer)

Guys, I applied for the Citi Thank You card at the end of August before the promotion was over. I still have not heard from them regarding a final decision. I called them over a week ago, and they said they would need 5-7 days to make a decision. I just called again and said the same thing. What is up?

I was holding off purchasing some tickets hoping to apply that purchase toward the minimum spend. I have only one new credit card, my CSR, that I received in June. Other than that, my two other cc accounts are several years old and I don't carry a balance. My credit score is super high, and I just do not understand what is taking so long or how to fix it.

Advice? Thanks in advance!

QUICK TWO QUESTION DISchurners Survey!!
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PLVZ98H

Please answer this two question survey on whether we should try to create a new thread or not AND if we do how should we name it.

Answer both questions even if you say NO to question 1.

Also - if we did create a new thread:
a) I'd be happy to do it for us
b) we could create a few placeholder comments at the beginning where we could share an explanation of what this is or link to important comments/changes - I would be able to monitor and edit those comments at the request of everybody (similar to what we did on the hotel reviews thread).
c) I would see if we can find a mod here on the DIS that can assist us in closing the old thread (I've had good interactions with rteetz so I may reach out to him (again ONLY if that's what our group wants). If we can't find a mod to close this thread, we may reconsider the idea though because having 2 threads would NOT be good.

Vote as you wish - there isn't really a right answer to this. I'd say we need at least 60% support to entertain the idea...(just my thought)

Also - if you want to monitor the results, I think you can do so here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/results/SM-LH5L7WP3L/instant/

Just responded. Generally, I'm good with whatever the group wants to do. Regardless, I think it's a good idea to have a stickied post at the beginning for newbies (if that's something we can go back and do on this thread). I know none of us mind helping new people, but I think that would be easier than the same couple people having to answer questions about starting out repeatedly when we're in the throws of discussing Amex popups or Chase delayed URs. It might also be a good place to put a note that this is not the right place to come to in terms of advice on paying down credit card debt, balance transfers, etc. I'm all for people getting themselves out of debt, and am also active on the debt dumpers board for student loans/budget purposes, but I think we can all agree that this board is not the right place for people with those sorts of goals.

The Suntrust Signature checking was an easy $500. I just SMed them to downgrade my account to the essential checking. I had no fees hit my account despite not having the 25,000 in there. They waive it for a few cycles and my bonus posted quickly.

Ditto on this. One of the easier ones, yet came with a nice bonus. Though, some on DOC have reported having issues downgrading, but I too did not have an issue doing so over the phone.

Only when one has an MSR to meet can one get excited about receiving his/her annual homeowner's insurance bill (and doubly excited that the insurance company takes Amex with no fee for credit card usage), lol. That is all.
Back a few years ago, my coworkers could not figure out why I was so excited when we got rid of escrow and could easily pay prop tax and insurance bills ourselves, LOL!

I don't think we can go back and sticky something here. When people have those "First Comment" posts on threads it's because they created the thread and reserved the initial comment spots. BUT we definitely would on the new one.

Not really feasible to do that with this thread, IMO, even if the OP changed the original post, the thread's just so long and daunting. And without the OP currently active on it, since you can only edit your own posts (unless you're a mod with some phenomenal cosmic powers), if it were me I wouldn't want to come back to my thread and change anything if I were asked :) I started it for X comment, not my fault it grew into this :)

I thought the same as you, on one hand it'd be nice to have a structured beginning with 3-5 posts set aside for different topics that get updated as new info grows as a reference spot. Stuff like the ticket thread is awesome where you can reference the beginning, if you still have a question or have new info, post on the end. On the other hand, it does conglomerate all our knowledge in one easy spot which makes it easily searched (and destroyed. Gift Card Thread anyone?) externally as well and while I'm not an advocate of secrets... after all I wouldn't have been able to join in if y'all hid away... off hand not sure how much more attention it'd attract (could be none  that's probably just the tinfoil hat talking)

Also - if somebody DOESN'T want me to create the new thread, that's ok too, lol. I don't want just "assume" I'm in control of things here, lol. I just know most of you seem to like me and trust me...I just don't want you thinking I'm trying to create some coup to take over... (besides I already did that when I created DISchurners MUAHAHAHAHA!!! JK JK JK!!)
I did the survey but I frankly don't see how a new thread that is this open with ideas and advice is going to be kept secret...I'm not sure you can have it both ways and IMHO I wouldn't want this to become reddit or F**talk or some of those other 'nastier' environments. I've gleaned a LOT of useful info over the years at places like that but it wasn't nearly as enjoyable as coming here to read my daily updates....:goodvibes no matter how you slice it it was noted earlier that nothing here is anything 'new' on the general 'net..... it's all out there anyway. just my 2 cents, and I respect whatever choices you make here since you do a lot of work keeping all this up and I appreciate it! (also I like the size of this thread,it makes it way harder to navigate and sneak around easily lol)

I am with you! We just moved ours from State Farm to Geico yesterday and the agent wanted to know how I wanted to bill and pay for it...Ummm....yearly and here's my CC # :)

No luck getting the 100K plat offer :( Dh has opted-out of all offers, so I expect that has something to do with in--at least in combination with our years of boring debit and Discover use
