I love credit cards so much!

:offtopic: I know we have a lot of Hamilton experts on this thread...I may have a chance to see it in Chicago in Dec, so I need help! Has anyone here seen it in Chicago? I'm wondering how bad obstructed or limited view seats are? This would be our first time seeing it, so don't want to miss too much, but we also probably can't spend several hundred dollars.

Also, would Ticketmaster be the best place to get the tickets, or is there somewhere else I should look for a better deal? Is this one of those things that a concierge could help with, or no?

TIA!

@mom2elal - try this site https://aviewfrommyseat.com/venue/CIBC+Theatre/ - some of the dress circle seats are quite restricted in particular.

My DW and DD went to see Hamilton in Feb. I got a great deal on seats on StubHub two months before - about $220 per ticket for awesome Orchestra seats - I think face value was almost $500 each. I had also seen some pretty good balcony seats for less than $100 - it is very high up and a long way from the stage though. Not surprisingly, the best prices could usually be found midweek, although the tickets we bought were for a Friday.

Looking for advice...need to purchase 2 round trip tickets (most likely AA or United but possibly delta). Is it worth it to open a new card (tickets look to be about $700-$850 total)? We don’t fly often (next flight will be thanksgiving 2019).
I currently have freedom, Disney Visa, Discover, and BestBuy credit cards. My husband has discover,Disney, and a basic Amex.
The tickets need to be purchased very soon as the trip is next month.
Open to any suggestions! Thanks!

Well, looks like maybe I did squeak through under the radar! I called and they told me since I applied for both cards on the same day they were lowering my credit level on the CSP, but I could keep both cards. I asked if the bonus was still attached to both cards and she said they were!

:faint:

(Eta: I’m actually happy for you. I’m more amused at my own plight this morning than bitter.)

:offtopic: With people having closures and having a bad day, I had one too. My car started jumping while driving and shaking going down the road. Ended up not doing errands and went home. Auto repair shop that I can walk to easily can't take car and look at it until Monday. Wife comes home, we eat dinner and I decide I am going for a haircut. That goes well and when I pull out of the parking lot, I get hit on the right rear by another car, while driving my wifes car. Great! Two cars now have repairs needed. More cosmetic than anything and the door still opens. Just a wrench in things and not having family in the area makes logistics very tricky with what will be getting an estimate, rental, and what not. Wife going to NY next week with her car so nothing happening next week.

Ok..rant over.

heh, i had a big car problem last month. After returning from my trip to seattle, i thought all is well until i drove my car back from my parents house. Car overheated and started making a weird noise. called for a tow was told i needed to wait 1 hour. This was after the flight from SEA delayed 2 hours after finding out when going to the gate. so here i am at 2:30am waiting for a tow... i decided to wing it home and i did.
Day 2 i called for a tow to my mechanic. Amex Plat Biz covered 10 miles free, mechanic is exactly 10 miles away so free tow yay! Now the bad news, car has a crack on the engine block. engine needs replacing. :\

So what now, my dad thought its time for him to upgrade his 220k mile corolla(which is given to me) and get himself a prius prime.

i still cant believe there is a crack on my engine block... you need to like... super abuse your car to do that... :\ mechanic said i had some terrible luck... This is after dropping $700 on fixing my steering wheel pump and $500 on brand spankin new tires 2 months ago... :\

off topic of course... i feel super unlucky... im over today. haha.

Sorry dudes, been there, that sucks. ( well wasn't a cracked block, but similarly catastrophic) Fortunately both scenarios did not occur at the same time, but always at the wrong time - like within 6 weeks before the wedding both cars were in minor accidents ( really?! Like we weren't spending enough money already...) I got nothing helpful, just felt I should commiserate.

Be more specific - what do you mean by basic Amex? Does it earn membership rewards points - so do you have points now? Is it a charge card by chance?

I think generally the answer would be "Yes!" cuz why not? But you'll usually get a better return from a sign up bonus than just a non category cashback/points purchase. I guess the question would be, how much additional spend could you do in 3 months? You could go for a lower spend card, like 1k, and be done quick for a lower return; or if you could do 2, 3, or 4k in 3 months time there's higher bonuses to be had.
Everything you have looks like 1-2% back at best, so best case scenario $17. I think the smallest bonus on a 1k min spend card is $150. So if it were me and I was in a good position to open a new card, I'd probably do it. What to open gets more complicated :)

Question- is it just people who have done a DD that have experienced a bonus delay or is it all Chase cards ? I really need this bonus for my upcoming Disney trip.... :guilty:

When did everyone get the bonus miles on their Barclay Aviator Biz? I can't remember when DH got his bonus miles after the $2.29 drink I bought at work. I thought it was before his $95 fee hit and his statement closed but not sure. Any way, I have one purchase on there and already paid off. I don't have my miles yet :sad2:. It's been about 2 weeks. Am I just too impatient?

My miles posted the day my statement closed. I didn't pay my bill until the due date.

Well the rest of you are praising your spouses, I'm ready to smack mine this morning! Logged in to pay bills... "honey, why do we have $300 charged on our AMAZON CREDIT CARD?" :scared1:

I thought we talked about telling me when I need to buy you more Amazon GCs or, you know, putting it on the Amex we're working on a 5k MSR for!!!

Need some advice on what to do with my CSR. I just got hit with the annual fee. My original plan was to just cancel and reapply in a year but that’s off the table with the new 48 month rule.
I can downgrade to the CSP but I’m really wondering if I should bother with it. I barely eat out so no 3x on dining. We are traveling to Disney in Nov but that is all pretty much paid for. We have no big travel plans for at least two years.
My biggest thing for having the CSR was the bonus and the 1.5 redemption rate. The redemption rate is great but I can’t see myself getting enough URs on my Freedoms (already have freedom and unlimited) to pay for a whole hotel stay or cruise.

It’s an Amex that he gets cash back. Not sure which one it is. Has a blue square in the middle. It’s a charge card

So he has one of the imaginatively named Blue Cash cards. Those are actually credit cards. (the charge cards are green, gold, or platinum named and colored :))
I guess then still only a couple percentage back from any existing card - unless somehow Best Buy did an airline category and you can use the extra rewards dollars, that actually wouldn't surprise me much given all the random stuff I've seen with that card.

You could downgrade to another Freedom for now...then when your ready to redeem URs in the future upgrade to the CSR again or if your past 48 months at that point apply for a new CSR

Just set up my Chase $300 bonus account. Transferred $25 from Fidelity, so I'll wait to make sure I get the bonus and then send the remainder from Ally. Thanks to everyone who walked me through this, particularly @havaneselover! I don't know why bank accounts make me so nervous. I guess because I'm playing with "real money" and not credit card points and miles, regardless of their cash value.

I don't know where my brain has been this week, but it just occurred to me that I can open a Chase account for DH too and do the same thing from his Fidelity account!

Yay--glad this worked for you too! So glad they opened a branch in NoVA. Would be nice if they came to Richmond.

It is pretty easy but I'm also cautious on this.

And I was finally able to link my Capital One account to my Chase Savings account. Technically I think Monday is my 10th business day and I don't think my funds will hit until Tuesday. But I do have an email from Chase saying "by September 30th" so I think I'm fine.
