Welcome Everyone!

This a thread dedicated to supporting each other as we pursue healthy goals together (We Are Inspired to Stay Healthy).

Monday through Friday we’ll continue to chat with these guides:
Motivation Monday
Topic Tuesday
Woo-hoo Wednesday
Topic Thursday
Free for All Friday

But please-feel free to add anything-we are are open to everything! And apologies in advance if I repeat topics from previous months-I am a latecomer to this group, so don’t hesitate to tell me and I will try again! :)

About me-your host for the month-I’m Sandra, a 64 years old and retired from 25 years working in public and school libraries. I lost 60+ pounds with Weight Watchers years ago, but these last couple years I struggle over the winter and end up gaining 8-10lbs. Participating in this thread will be one of the ways I hope to avoid those unwanted pounds!

My goal for this month is to continue walking at least 5x a week and continue to lose weight until I am at least 5lbs below my “official “ ww goal weight-

Hope to “see” everyone this month-and please, I know how busy many of you are, so join in as much or as little as you can!
I think it’s so amazing I get inspiration from not only from those of you around the US, but Germany and Australia!

Wahoo! I'm the first one!!!

So last month we chatted a bit about scales and I reminded people it's just a number. Today I am reminding myself that!!! :headache: My calories were below every day except two last month. My steps were way over goal and this morning I've gained three pounds in a week. I'm going to chalk it up to my body and scale being whacko and just move on!

I'm keeping the same goals I always keep: log all food and maintain my step count. Last month I added doing a few lunges every day. Mid-month I upped the number, so that's in hand. This month I think I'm going to focus on getting my shoulder exercises out and doing them again. It's been a couple years since I was given the physical therapy and I haven't been keeping up. Time to do that.

Oops. I didn't introduce myself!

I'm Linda from the Pacific Northwest corner of the United States. Today is DH's 30th anniversary of working for the state. We have two DS. One has flown the nest and the other is on a medical leave from college in New York City. He'll return in January. I gained weight with DS2 and have never lost it (yup--read over 20 years!). I've always been active and get up at o'dark thirty to go to the gym. No big goals this month (ever really), I'm a slow and steady kinda gal!

Welcome! And I didn’t lose the baby weight until the baby was in high school!
I also track my food-when the scale doesn’t move (or moves in the wrong direction) I use it to see why-and most of the time I haven’t done anything different.
So hard not to let the scale affect my outlook, though!

Yay Successful September!!!
I'm going to chalk it up to my body and scale being whacko and just move on!
omg I have a serious love/hate relationship with my scale. I can't even own a digital one, otw I will go crazy over that number after the decimal. So petty. I only weigh myself once a week (Wednesday) and that's helped tremendously. If I weigh myself daily, I always restrict my calories way too low because I just wanna see the number drop. Not healthy

Anyway,
A little about me:

I've struggled with eating ever since I was young. I was extremely picky, barely ate anything healthy, and refused to even drink water. I have weird issues regarding food texture, temperature, and exposure to air. Last year I had a really depressive episode and lost a significant amount of weight really fast. I was really weak and my body hurt everywhere. Over the last few months, I have been slowly gaining weight to where my "set point" is (about 120 lbs -- I'm 5'3). Sometimes I think I look ok but I want to have a more lean & toned look. I love yoga, hula hooping, and going for walks. I also love getting on my indoor bike to work off any extra stress or if I can't sleep. We love to cook from scratch and I'm lucky enough to have a man who's an excellent cook and understands my struggles with food.

Basically all I want is a healthy relationship with food.

Hope you all are having an amazing day! I'm looking forward to the thread this month :)

Welcome, Audrey Rose!
A healthy relationship with food is something I struggle with-my husband said one time he thought I would take drugs with less guilt than a second roll
I’m going to work on this as well!

Motivation Monday!

Let’s get things started! On another forum people were posting inspirational and motivational sayings and one in particular caught my attention:

Stop worrying about what you have to lose and start focusing on what you have to gain.

When you think about the changes you have made or continue to make as you make a healthy lifestyle a priority in your life-what have you gained?

In my case, the first thing I think of is my stamina. I recently attended a pre season football game with my family (in 90 degree heat!!) and was able to climb the stairs to the fifth level and then up another 18 rows to our seats. That was after walking 25 minutes from the parking garage to the stadium. I never could have done that before I got to a healthy weight and began an exercise routine. I would have stayed home-and missed out on a fun evening with my family. I have an 8 year old grandson that expects his Grammy to keep up with him-so that is a very big motivator for me!

What have you gained?

The one thing I have gained which I never thought possible was getting joy out of exercise. I was such a couch potato as a kid and teenager. I still have those tendencies, but I also know how much I like certain types of exercise. I have also become more daring and less timid about trying something that could be challenging for me.

I still have to do the math for my August goal, but I know I managed to reach it. My goal was to track my calories every day and have an average deficit of 500 kcal per day, so a total deficit for August of 15.500 kcal. Since I was so successful in August, I decided to up my goal a bit and go for 525 kcal per day, so a total of 15.750 kcal for September (since the month is one day shorter, the total is not that much higher). The first two days were already very successful!

I have started doing DVD workouts again. Several years ago I bought a set called Body Revolution from Jillian Michael. It seemed ot be quite the hype back then and I had tried other DVDs from here. I have used those DVDs a number of times now, but never finished the whole set. I have the best intentions of finishing this time. It is set for 12 weeks and I am now in week 3 (halfway through already) and still very motivated. But today is my rest day and I love not having to get sweaty!!!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the WISH board. Honestly, I didn't know it existed until a few weeks ago! I'm about to turn 50 with 2 grown children. I've struggled with my weight for forever, and really want to turn 50 (February) with a healthy body and increased energy. I've recently tried WW, but really struggled from day 1. I've turned to focusing on portion control, increasing my protein intake and not eating after dinner. I've also started walking more and being generally more active. I look forward to getting to know everyone!

:welcome: :yay::yay::yay:
Welcome to the WISH thread! So glad you came to join us!
I am also a newcomer-my first time participating was last month-feel free to jump in!

I'd love to join! I joined weight watchers a couple weeks ago and my goals for September areare continue working the program make better eating choices and to try to up my exercise to some kind of exercise 5 times a week. I have a bum foot right now so that is a challenge! Good luck to everyone!

For our first Tuesday discussion I thought I’d ask:

What helps you to stay focused and on track as you work towards your goals?

I keep a small notebook on my kitchen counter and I write down everything I eat to keep track of my points (I’m doing Weight Watchers). I often put what dinner is going to be first thing in the morning so I can plan the rest of day.
I also make a detailed list for the grocery store and make sure that I have healthy options for meals for the week.

Welcome @crazylady and @KSR0330!!

Hmmm. what have I gained? Well, a few years ago when I was running (I called it "plodding") I had also gained stamina like @sjrec . I was so proud of myself when I kept up with DH and DSs as we climbed a giant hill! I'm no longer running, but think I have maintained some of that stamina. And like @Flossbolna I think I have more courage to try new activities.

I don't think we have enough pickleball players for the next couple weeks as some people are on vacation. I need to figure out what I am going to do! It may just be walking around and around and around the track at the gym. Tomorrow my early bird class starts back up after the instructor took the summer off. I think everyone is really looking forward to it, I know I am!

Got around to reading your introduction and wanted to say thanks for sharing! Looks like you are on a good track here, hope things keep improving for you! I also love your story as it shows how important it is to have a healthy relationship with food.

:welcome: Hope you will be able to move towards your goals between now and your big birthday! Ultimately the best way to improve is to do something that works for you and is a lifestyle that you can follow. The one thing I once read that stuck with me is that it is important to try to follow the healthiest lifestyle that one can have for a long period. Most people aren't able to cut all sugar from their life for ever, so going totally sugar free might not be so smart because after some months one would compensate by overeating. So the goal should be instead to cut as much sugar that one does not feel depraved. And then after a year, go and revisit your habits and see if you can make your lifestyle healthier again. It sounds like you have found something that works currently for you, so it looks like a great start!

:welcome: I hope your foot improves soon! I have dealt with injuries in the past and it is always a bit de-motivating not being able to move. I hope we will be able to support you through this time!

What helps you to stay focused and on track as you work towards your goals?

I have to say that the single most important thing that helps me keep focused are these threads. Especially taking an active part in them. They are a constant reminder that I have my goals and when I struggle, there is always someone offering support.

I don't think we have enough pickleball players for the next couple weeks as some people are on vacation.

I always have to smile when you write about your pickleball, because I always get this picture in my mind of a group of ladies throwing around pickles as a sport...

For our first Tuesday discussion I
What helps you to stay focused and on track as you work towards your goals?

Man is it hot today! But I forced myself off the couch and walked 5000 steps. :). I also made three days lunches for the week and I'm getting ready to go make some healthy choices at the grocery.

My motivation right now is I want to fit comfortably in my clothes! I'm tired of having nothing to wear and shopping for new clothes is depressing, because I have to by a bigger size.

I'm keeping on track with the ww app. I love it. I tried ww a few years ago, pre-smart phone, and I wasn't overly successful. One of the reasons was that the trackng was cumbersome to me. I like that now I have my tracking tools always close at hand.

We talked about how awesome the app is at my meeting this morning! Love scanning things in the grocery store! And isn’t it easier to track now that so much is 0 points?

Hi All!

Just found the W.I.S.H. board here and its pretty cool so i figured I'd jump in. My name is Mike, I'm 32 and from Rhode Island. Both my fiance and I have recently started eating better and exercising in anticipation of our Wedding in June 2019.

We started on July 11th 2018 after we purchased an Elliptical and so far its been a great decision. I'm currently down 45lbs in just under 2 months, feeling good and already shopping for new clothes!

My goal for September is two fold...
1. Headed down to WDW/Universal 6 days next week and hopefully lose a few Lbs while there
2. Lose another 13lbs by the end of the month.

I'm a huge Disney and Universal fan and glad I found something here on the these forums related to health and wellness. I look forward to getting to know everyone and sharing my journey.
