Female solo travelers

Have you ever felt unsafe traveling solo to Disney? Does where you stay help you feel safer? I'm taking my first solo trip soon and I'm second guessing my resort choice (All Stars).

I am a young female that looks like a high schooler ( two years ago it was middle school so I have final grownup some) I have stayed mostly at sports and have never felt unsafe. I do keep my phone on and late at night walk to my room and lock the door. You just have to be smart do not go to a very dark hallway do not cut though a dark area and you will be fine. If you feel unsafe see if a CM will walk you to your room or ask to be closer to the lobby

Maybe I’m being naive, but Disney World Resort feels like the safest place on Earth to me. I’ve never ever ever worried about my safety there at any resort or park.

Not at Disney. I'm used to doing solo stuff though as I'm separated and my kids have grown up. I have felt somewhat unsafe using public where I live (Toronto) at times. Your own comfort level should dictate where you stay. I agree with the previous poster that AKL hallways are long/curved and you can't really see who's coming around the next part of the hallway. Any individual should always stay alert to surroundings when travelling alone, and trust your instincts. If a pathway, or situation makes you feel uncomfortable, find another way. Enjoy your first solo trip!

I initially picked Movies because it is being refurbed and the price. After thinking about it, the outside doors have me hesitating. I've stayed at AKL 3 times and am familiar with the resort.

If you're comfortable with AKL and you can afford it, then go for it. Try requesting a room close to the lobby.

I just came back from a solo trip staying at All Star Movies. I travel solo all the time now, and I never feel unsafe in Disney. I’ve also stayed at Pop and All Star Sports. I like the freedom of being solo. I even travel to Vegas solo, and I just try to stay aware of my surroundings, and I have always felt safe there too.

I stayed at ASMu in 2014 for my solo trip and felt safe. I consider Disney property to be safer than most places to vacation at. There can still be incidents. You just need to follow common sense guidelines such as being aware of your surroundings and who's around you.

i travel solo a LOT but there is certainly a freedom and sense of safety at WDW that everyone else has said here that i feel as well. its party of why i like staying on property as well. i feel like i can drink a little more because it is a self contained site - but who knows, maybe a thread like this is a bad idea and shows we all have our guard down

I spent a week solo at ASMu in May and at no time felt unsafe. I'm a female in my late 50s who has been traveling solo to Disnet for over 10 years with no problems.

Trying to understand, what is the issue with outside corridors?

I don't understand what makes interior corridors safer either.

My solo vacations have been exclusively with Disney because I do feel safe there. I've stayed at POP and CBR and both were fine, but I felt a little safer at POP because there aren't as many large landscaped areas and there is a higher concentration of people in a smaller area.

Same here! I typically feel safer at the value resorts because of the way its designed, as you had mentioned. Plus it seems to be busier than mod/deluxe resorts. I always stay at a value resort for my solo trips because im literally there to only sleep and shower. So to answer your question, no, i've never felt unsafe. Although its all about personal preference. Some people are more comfy with an interior corridor, and some are more comfy with an exterior corridor. Everyone is different. Go with whatever you prefer.

Honestly, Music has the most odd layout out of all the value resorts. Its very "narrow". See below. If your staying at the very back of music (Country Fair rooms), you have a very very loooong walk to the main building/buses. I would definitely stay in a preferred room at music. Esp being a solo female. I stayed at a standard room at music while travelling solo and honestly wasnt fond of it. I ended up switching to sports, which is actually one of my faves.

Notice the difference in the layout between the three? Sports and movies are more "compact" than music. Music is narrow. It makes more sense as you're walking through the resorts rather than looking on the map. Once there, you'll see what I mean.

I agree with this. Of the 7 resorts I've stayed at solo over the years (some MANY times), All Star Music was the only place I felt a little nervous. Yet I stayed at Sports, and it was fine. So were POR, AKL, Kidani, BCV, and BWV.

I've done two solo WDW trips (plus one solo DL+Cali trip & one sole Puerto Rico trip) and I'm planning my 3rd WDW solo trip for Feb '19. I stayed at AS Sports on my 1st solo trip, which I had stayed at once before. On my 2nd solo trip I rented DVC points and did a split stay at SS and OKW, both new to me. At all three resorts I never felt unsafe.

On my 2nd solo trip I went for an evening run from WL to FW campground to check out all the Christmas decor and still felt safe. I stayed out fairly late one night at DS too, chatting with people at the bar and having some Guiness lol, at Raglan Rd and still felt perfectly safe leaving as there were employees/security around, and I basically had a personal escort to my resort bus from one of them. They were very aware and attentive.

Traveling solo is very awesome and I always highly recommend it! It is very liberating. I am seriously pumped for my upcoming Feb solo trip!

I’ve traveled solo to WDW and DLR and have felt safe. I would just say practice common sense, don’t drink too much, always be wary but no more than you would back home.

My last solo trip I stayed at All Star Movies and arrived around 2:30 in the morning to check in. I never felt unsafe, even walking to my room in the middle of the night. I've done solo trips to plenty of other places, but Disney has definitely been the place I've felt the safest.

Now, it has been 11 years since my last trip,but I did go solo and stayed at Pop. Never felt unsafe once. In fact, I had an amazing time. I am planning my next trip for next year, solo again, at POR.

I have stayed solo for several conferences and have never felt unsafe. As other posters mentioned use common sense like you would on a trip to any big city.

I have to admit that I did feel uneasy at times. I have learned to get a preferred room and first floor location. Being closer to the lobby and not using the stairs or elevators helps me. I've gone gone solo twice.

If I ever go again solo I will probably stay where you don't have to be on the outside to get to your room.

If I heard a sound going back to my room at night I did look around and did a 360 to make sure about it. I have to admit I did walk pretty fast, too.

I go to WDW solo all the time, and have stayed at almost every resort, and felt safe in all of them. Heck, my first trip to Europe was solo! Just do the same thing you would do anywhere - keep your eyes open, your wits about you, and don’t take unnecessary risks.

I actually like the exterior corridors because I feel like I am more in view of others if I need help vs. the winding halls of BW or AKL, although I felt safe there too.
