So, while I have not been around as much here on the boards (new job has me "CRAZY Busy"), I was surprised that here it is at almost the end of August and I am not seeing the "August" posts.

Maybe I missed them?

Anyway, we will be heading down from NE PA after work on 8/10 and checking in on 8/12. Kids and DW are excited, but since I have to do all the driving, I am not as excited as everyone else.

I am excited to see how well the new F-250 (Diesel) will pull the camper (versus the former F-250 GAS).

Wow. Please, I mean absolutely no disrespect here but your post made me feel really good and gave me a good laugh. You see my kids are always busting on me about my age because I usually have to ask them "What day is it?".
I do believe we're almost at the end of July. But then maybe I better check my calendar again.

You sure have been crazy busy, you even missed your own vacation if it is the end of August. :duck:

You will love the diesel compared to the gas for hauling your camper. We would never pull with a gas engine again, there just is not enough torque.

Glad you are getting a break from work and heading to the Fort. Looks like at least 2019 before we get there, maybe 2020. This work thing needs to give me more vacation time.

I was getting a little worried that no one on here was going down in August. I started a September thread a while back because I couldn't wait. Glad to hear you will be there.

Regardless of what month we are nearing the end of, post pics when you arrive!

:rolleyes1 July and I am not seeing the "August" posts.

I glad you started this thread. I was think abut, being new here I wasn't sure what the protocol would be.

Anyway I be heading down to the Fort arriving on the 18th and leaving on the 26th. It will our first major trip in our TT, but not our first trip to the Fort. Normally we stay at POR for our August trip, but since we now have the TT it going to be the Fort.

I am excited and looking forward to the trip. I even kinda excited (and nervous) about and the drive, but I'm coming from the Atlanta area, not all the way up in PA.

Protocol is...... mostly, common sense, so post on. :) Some folks have a harder time containing their excitement, and will start their trip reports a year in advance. No worries though.

We should be checking in on the 12th and will be checking out on either the night of the 19th or morning of the 20th. Just depends on how it goes.

We have another trip planned in December (Although I don't know what I was thinking) ad we are checking in the day after Christmas and leaving January 3rd or 4th, with current plans to try and be in the MK on NYE (Again... What am I thinking?)

I am a bit excited to see how our new TV (F-250 Diesel) does. I know around town the MPG is much better than the 250 Gas we had. The improved MPG certainly offsets the cost difference between Gas and Diesel (Currently about 50 cents/gallon), but the long haul will tell if the cost differential is worth it for the different truck (about $8-$10K)

Who in the world would start a trip report nearly a year out ??? :yay: :confused3 :rolleyes1

Since myself & Grumphy Aggie retired, we never know what day it is other than Sunday only because of Church.
We are counting the days because we arrive home on 11/16!!

A year out? Did I miss something? I am 2 week out now. :)

You said some people start a pre TR/TR a year out, I was simply stating I don't know who would do something like that......or I might. I know you did not.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the subject of THIS thread mlm

Yeah, me, I dont need to do a year out. 90 days is typically good for me.

Course I am down to 2 weeks.(leave in 11 days though).

Posts in the July TR thread got me thinking about the set up sequence when arriving. I have set up a few times, with minor mistakes each time, so I am preparing an arrival plan. Let me if I am missing something I should be thinking about.

  1. Arrive at the Fort and eventually get backed into the site
  2. Lay out the leveling blocks and pull onto them for side to side level
  3. Place wheel chocks
  4. Raise tongue enough to remove WD hitch sway bars
  5. Lower tongue to release ball latch
  6. Raise tongue up off the ball, disconnect wiring harness, remove chains
  7. Move truck
  8. Level front to back
  9. Hookup power
  10. Turn on A/C and fridge
  11. Lower stablizers
  12. Hook up water and sewer
  13. Go grocery shopping while A/C and fridge get cold
  14. Drop groceries off
  15. Drop bunkends (It's a hybrid) and make the bed
  16. Attach Popup gizmos
  17. Go to Crockets until Trail's End ADR time
Am I missing anything? Anything out of order? Should #4 be #1, they make a lot noise when turning?

Also I think I am seriously overthinking all of this, but my mind is already at the fort and waiting for my body to get there.

You're not over thinking. Just planning to help with the excitement. I do the same thing. I added some comments/corrections below. As for unhooking the WD bars before backing, I would only unhook the sway controls when I backed in. Neither is essential and not a big deal if you do it once you are set and unhitching.
  1. Arrive at the Fort and eventually get backed into the site- Get your ideal site assignment, early, and back in, perfectly, on 1st try.
  2. Lay out the leveling blocks and pull onto them for side to side level- No need! Florida is flat and the sites at the Fort were poured with laser precision.
  3. Place wheel chocks- See #2, but still better safe than sorry.
  4. Raise tongue enough to remove WD hitch sway bars- It took me several trips before I learned this trick!
  5. Lower tongue to release ball latch- From lessons learned, make sure to unlock the ball all the way. It makes #6 so much easier.
  6. Raise tongue up off the ball, disconnect wiring harness, remove chains
  7. Move truck
  8. Level front to back
  9. Hookup power- DW insists I hook up power before unhitching anything because #10 is a priority.
  10. Turn on A/C and fridge- See #9 I run with the refrigerator on. It takes 2 days to cool down anyway.
  11. Lower stablizers
  12. Hook up water and sewer- I usually hook up the water (if I have it), but don't bother with the sewer until I need it. That is usually determined by the shower overflowing because the grey tank is full.
  13. Go grocery shopping while A/C and fridge get cold- See #9 and 10
  14. Drop groceries off- I bring enough food with me. I don't want to waste valuable Fort or park time being outside the Disney bubble
  15. Drop bunkends (It's a hybrid) and make the bed- Make a bed?
  16. Attach Popup gizmos- The joys of having a popup/hybrid, but so essential.
  17. Go to Crockets until Trail's End ADR time- Absolutely! Should be moved higher in the list... like #2 maybe.
Have fun overplanning to kill the time. August will be here in no time... Like literally tomorrow. :-)

  1. Arrive at the Fort and eventually get backed into the site, Not too bad, great entertainment for neighbors.
  2. Lay out the leveling blocks and pull onto them for side to side level, Spoiled, hit a button and 6 leveling jacks auto level the trailer.
  3. Place wheel chocks
  4. Raise tongue enough to remove WD hitch sway bars, Used to remove mine before backing when we owned TT.
  5. Lower tongue to release ball latch
  6. Raise tongue up off the ball, disconnect wiring harness, remove chains
  7. Move truck
  8. Level front to back
  9. Hookup power
  10. Turn on A/C and fridge, Depending on how long your travel time is freeze a couple gallon water jugs and place in fridge to cool it while you travel. It will help.

More comments ..

1. Arrive at the Fort and eventually get backed into the site- Get your ideal site assignment, early, and back in, perfectly, on 1st try. - Not too bad, great entertainment for neighbors. Got a feeling It might go better if I can get Goofy to back it in for me. Maybe I put on show almost as good as the Hoopdy-Doo.

4. Raise tongue enough to remove WD hitch sway bars- It took me several trips before I learned this trick! - Used to remove mine before backing when we owned TT. I think I'm gonna try it that way. So this will become the new #1.

9. Hookup power- DW insists I hook up power before unhitching anything because #10 is a priority. Good Point I'll move this to #4. Priority for my DW as well.

10. Turn on A/C and fridge- See #9 I run with the refrigerator on. It takes 2 days to cool down anyway. - Depending on how long your travel time is freeze a couple gallon water jugs and place in fridge to cool it while you travel. It will help. – The fridge will be cold when we leave out. Figure the first day will be 6+ hours, then I'll have electric again, next day will be 4+ then I'll be at the fort. The frozen water jugs idea is great. I'm gonna try that (more details on #14).

12. Hook up water and sewer- I usually hook up the water (if I have it), but don't bother with the sewer until I need it. That is usually determined by the shower overflowing because the grey tank is full. – I haven’t had the shower overflow –yet.

14. Drop groceries off- I bring enough food with me. I don't want to waste valuable Fort or park time being outside the Disney bubble - I'm worried about getting to Fort and finding the fridge open and the milk and orange juice all over the floor. Image how that would smell after traveling 4+ hours on the FL highways in August. Better yet.. don't. But if try the water jugs and they make it, then next time I may get the groceries before we leave.

15. Drop bunkends (It's a hybrid) and make the bed- Make a bed?- DW has to have the memory foam and the mattress pillow topper. Ok, I admit it, I like them too.

16. Attach Popup gizmos- The joys of having a popup/hybrid, but so essential. - they do make huge difference.

17. Go to Crockets until Trail's End ADR time- Absolutely! Should be moved higher in the list... like #2 maybe. – good point, but I am saving it to the end. I need to have some kinda reward for all that setup.:drinking:

You're not over thinking. Just planning to help with the excitement.
Have fun overplanning to kill the time.

I do tend over-plan, and over analyze. But when the DW does the planning and thing go differently its the end of the world. When I plan, its OK if things don't work out just right. I figure I'm laying out the plan I intend to deviate from.

As for keeping things in the fridge, we use these in ours to keep stuff in place. They are camco fridge bars to help secure stuff in there. I am sure walmart has them also.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077Y6CLF3/ref=twister_B07DD644VN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Our fridge is usually packed full so no need to get the bars to keep things from moving around. It also helps keep utcolder for the drive. We do leave it run o. Gas though during the drive. No issues with that yet either.

PaHunter, I'm starting think we may get groceries before we leave. I'll give the fridge bars a try, and a frozen gallon water. I had seen the fridge bars before, but was sure if they worked or were just a camping "you need this" gimmick. I'm already in the process of placing an order for thing I need, so I'll add the bars.

Placing the order since I'm gonna have to redo my WD hitch, and need a torque wrench for 320 ft/lb, also getting a TPMS for the long trip. I'm not quite as excited now that I'm spending more money.

Peg110, you have to be getting more excited by now. Your getting really close to your dates.

Not stayin Fort, but I’ll be down 8/16-8/23....hope to run by the Fort at some point...
