Female solo travelers

Never went Solo to Disney but have traveled plenty of other locations solo. Can't imagine really feeling unsafe on Disney property. As always just know your surroundings and pay attention to whats around you.

I've never stayed solo on Disney property but have done plenty of things solo and have never felt unsafe, and I doubt I would ever feel unsafe. I'll find out soon, but I imagine after traveling solo to San Francisco that Disney will be a breeze!

Trying to understand, what is the issue with outside corridors?

If you have the money to switch from Value to Deluxe and you feel you will be safer, then just do it.

I go solo at least once a year, sometimes twice and have never felt unsafe. I stay at all levels of resorts and walk very early in the morning before it's light some mornings and have had no problems. You should be mindful of your surroundings, like anywhere else, but it's fairly safe.

I've stayed as a solo female at all of the All-Stars, Pop, POFQ, CSR, AKV, BLT, and CBR. I felt safe at all of them.

For me - I LOVE the adventure of a new resort - so familiarity would not drive my decision-making at all. For me - it's about how much I want to spend that trip in terms of lodging.

The only resort I haven't liked is CBR - and really - that was because the day I went to the pool - there was NO place to find a spot to put my stuff. It was PACKED. Plus the theming was just blah for me. Note that none of my assessment has anything to do with being solo or safety.

The only place I don't like as a solo female traveler at Disney is late at night on the Boardwalk (like after 10/11 pm). My first experience with that had a group of drunk late 20's males wandering around with what was pretty isolated territory with nobody around. That didn't feel great. They did not bother me - but the thought that they could have definitely crossed my mind.

Also - I'll say this - as I have done more solo travel - I've gained a lot of confidence in my solo travel. So - if this trip "familar" is important to you - then that's the right decision for you!

I take my kids solo because my husband is often gone due to the military. A few trips back we had an incident in Epcot that made me very uncomfortable so I notified a CM who agreed with me. The level of professionalism from both Disney and the local PD was AMAZING! It has taken me some time to feel comfortable at the parks solo with the kids but it's almost normal when we visit, I'm still get some anxiety planning for our upcoming trip butI know we will be fine.

I'm a male, so my advice may not be very helpful. The people I saw at the All-Star Resorts are primarily families with young kids, but the resorts can be pretty sprawling and the rooms can get pretty isolated. In the evenings it can get pretty dark near the back of the resort. Some of the moderates have similar problems with regards to size, especially Caribbean Beach.

You may be more comfortable in a preferred room at the All-Stars which are much closer to the main hub of the resort and therefore have more people around in addition to better lighting. All-Star Music Preferred may be the best since the resort has the least number of rooms because they have a lot of family suites and the resort is one straight line. Sports Standard may be the worst since it hosts lots of sports teams, the resort is more sprawling and the rooms can be pretty isolated from the main hub. I'm doing Movies Preferred in November with hopes of getting a refurbed room.

I have done a solo trip and while on property have not felt unsafe. Traveling to and from is always the most nerve wracking for me. I go down multiple times a year to meet a friend and I drive the 8.5 hours solo. Stopping when it get later at night or very early in the morning is the worst for me. I carry my keys like a knife just in case. So go with your gut and what you will be the most comfortable with. I am in my 30s but look like early 20s as a reference.

I take my kids alone all the time with no problems. This will be my first time traveling alone to Disney.

I’m staying at POFQ.

I've traveled to WDW several times alone. I've stayed at Pop, POR and Poly. I've never felt unsafe at Disney but I also make sure I take some general precautions.
  • Stay aware of your surrounding. Which, honestly, in today's day and age we should all be aware of our surroundings and what's going on.
  • At night, I stay on the beaten path - I don't go offsite and I go places that Disney transportation can take me. Now with the Minnie Vans, that actually opens up quite a bit more than it used to.
  • If something/someone is making you uncomfortable - ask for help. Theres lots of cast members around who are happy to assist.
I'd be comfortable at the All Stars but if you aren't feeling 100% about it - you book/ask for a preferred room near the main areas. Tends to be plenty of people and lighting all the time.

All of this^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Everyone should treat the WDW campus as exactly what it is.
A city....
And as such it would be wise to take whatever precautions while there that you would find prudent in any large city.

I've never felt unsafe at Disney World. Mostly I stay at moderates because I feel they are a bit more relaxing and fit nicely in my budget, but I have stayed at All Star Music and never felt unsafe. They always seem to have a fair amount of security around so I doubt it would be a smart place for any criminally minded person to frequent - there are easier targets I'm sure.

That said, I'm very comfortable travelling anywhere solo, so I think you need to do what make you feel the most comfortable.

I am staying at All Star Music and I was wondering how that would be solo. Thanks for your post.

My solo Disney trips are too many to count... it's my go-to when I can't find someone to travel with, because I do feel so safe. POP is my normal Disney home, but I have also recently stayed at POFQ. My preference when there solo, is to come and go thru the main hotel building, which both POP and POFQ satisfy.

I have traveled solo numerous times, Disney and Manhattan. I have stayed at OKW, BWV, BCV, POLY studio and offsite at the Hilton Bonnet Creek and the Wyndham Bonnet Creek (WBC), BWV and WBC numerous tones, the others once or twice. I usually rent a car too. I have stayed in a number of locations in Manhattan solo. I am an observant person by nature. It can be very liberating traveling solo. I try to look confident but in my mind I know it’s best to keep a watchful eye on your surroundings. Recently I felt a little out of place in the Chinatown area of Manhattan when walking with my husband in the daytime. We headed bsck to familiar territory. Trust your instincts.

For my first solo trip, I was very nervous about staying by myself at a Disney resort but immediately felt safe and secure in the environment. I have stayed at all levels of hotels, but personally prefer staying at a Deluxe with indoor corridors. My favorite resorts to stay as a solo are the Epcot resorts -- just love being able to walk to World Showcase at night for entertainment, shopping, and dinner. Also, I like using Magical Express for the airport transfer as a solo and the new option of the Minnie Van, especially when staying at Disney Springs, eating at a resort restaurant, or a park until late in the evening. It is more expensive than an Uber, but feels much safer with a Disney Cast Member.

I am taking my first solo trip in November and I completely understand your post. I hope that you were reassured by all of the posts. I know that it has reassured me. Even though I am an adult with a child, I still plan on checking in with a friend everyday, so that she knows that I am alive. Silly....but I have come with a few more ways to make me feel safe...When I drink stay at my location until I feel safe to leave. Walk in lighted areas at night. Remind myself that I am okay. Plus, I am not above asking a family to walk me back to my room if I am at the parks late. Enjoy yourself. Take time to see all of the things we miss when we go with others.

I've stayed solo at BC, POFQ, and POP and felt safe at all of them. I agree with the PPs who have said to take normal safety precautions (wherever you go / stay). At POP I did spring for a Preferred room to be closer to the main building.

Outside of Disney, I would always go with interior corridors, but I've found that at the Disney Resorts I prefer the exterior corridors. POFQ (my fave), with its wrought iron and manicured grounds, felt "open," with good sight lines, and there were always people out and about in "shouting distance." I was lucky at BC not to be off down a long winding hall, but I think that would have been more uncomfortable.

I go solo 90% of the time. I live just under 3 hrs away and go approx every 6 weeks for a long weekend. Over the summer I go for a week 3 times. I will stay on and off property. Mostly off when I'm alone to save money. I am not afraid, never was. I am very aware of my surroundings and when walking past people, I look at their faces. I carry my keys, money and credit cards in my pockets, not my purse or backpack. I also want to add, I'm no spring chicken anymore either, I will be 62 this year.
