Looks like they say no.............
From Meijers MPerks FAQ's
What can I redeem my rewards for?

Rewards can be redeemed in any Meijer store on all purchases except Alcohol, Tobacco, Prepaid Debit Cards & Reload Packs, Taxes, SIMPLR (TM) Protection Plans, Prescriptions, Prepaid Phone, Gift and Entertainment Cards, Lottery, Postage, Bottle Deposits, Park and Entertainment Tickets, In-Store Businesses, Licenses, Meijer Gas Stations and C-Stops or Previous Purchases.
I’m okay with that. A hundred bucks is a hundred bucks. Thanks for the info!:thumbsup2

There’s also an mperks digital coupon for $10 off $150 or more in MC gift cards. I found it interesting that the MC variable load gift cards have a 5.95 fee. The Visas have a 6.95 fee.

Has anyone ever used a AmEx gift card to buy a variable load Disney card? At what stores were you successful?

Wanted to share my experience...

I went to Kroger and got a variable load Disney gift card. I had an AmEx gift card that had $37.32 left on it. I scanned the GC and typed in $37.32 as the amount to put on it. I then paid for it using the AmEx card. Super easy!

Not a variable load, but when the SB deal came out earlier this year, I had a $250 amex GC that I used at best buy to purchase Disney GC. I did that to generate the extra 11% per $50.

I will cross-post this on the Swagbucks thread too, but I have a DP to report that may have already been reported and I missed it, but just in case...

I went to BB on Tuesday in order to purchase a $500 Disney gift card for my DVC dues and a $50 Disney gift card for my vacation. I planned to use my BB Visa card to purchase the $500 card because I had a coupon good for 11% back in BB rewards on a single purchase paid for with the BB Visa:thumbsup2. I was then going to use my PayPal debit card for the $50 card ($25 was available from a SB cashout and a I had a $25 Visa prepaid card linked as the back up payment....more on that in a bit...).

I grabbed a $50 Disney card and a variable load card and brought them to the check out lane. I handed the cashier my Swagbucks QR code which she scanned first. Then, I handed her my coupon. She read the directions on it and scanned it. Then she scanned the variable load card and I told her I wanted $500 on it. It wouldn't allow it...so she tried a different card...same problem:badpc:. She grabbed an entire stack and none of them would "activate" for $500. She decided to try for a smaller amount...$250....and it worked just fine. I told her I was OK with (2) $250 cards so that's what she did. Then she scanned the $50 card and it was time to pay.

UPDATE: I found out the problem here...I looked at my purchase history in my Best Buy Rewards account and I see that the SKU for the variable load gift card shows it as a "VGC $15-$300" which is why it would not take it for $500. The tag on the card was clearly marked "$25-$500" so I don't know what was up with that. I will stick to $50 cards from now on, even if I have to buy 10 of them.

I told her I wanted to pay $500 on my Best Buy Visa...perfect...no problems. When I went to do the remaining $50 on my PayPal debit, it gets "declined":headache:. Hmmm...I think I know the problem...my PayPal balance is only $25 and my backup payment is a pre-paid debit card. I do not have a bank account currently linked so I am assuming that is why it was declined. I kind of figured that wasn't going to work, but I wouldn't know until I tried so now I know. I just paid the $25 on the PayPal card and put the rest on my BB Visa.

Today, I got my Shop and Earn e-mail from Swagbucks and my shop credit is showing as pending....for 100 SB:sad1:. I bought $550 in gift cards on a single transaction so it should have been 1100 SB, but I suspect that the variable-load cards are excluded. I'm certainly not going to fill out a ticket for this because it clearly states that gift cards are excluded. I don't know this for a fact, but it would appear that I did get the proper credit for the single, $50 card that I bought, but nothing for either of the other (2) variable-load cards.

UPDATE: My BB rewards are already showing as pending!!

I have definitely gotten them for variable load Disney in the past with no issue. I’ve also gotten them in the past week for other variable load cards.

Any ideas on what went "wrong" with my transaction? Just curious...
I'm wondering because I am planning to purchase another card but I want to add my $40 in BB rewards to it as well. So in order to get "credit" for the $50 purchase, I was planning to get a variable-load card for $90. After this incident, I think I will play it safe and get two cards...a $50 card and a variable-load $40 card. I won't get credit for the extra $40 anyways since the rewards are considered "coupons" and register as a discount off of the purchase price.

Any suggestions on how to get the maximum out of my rebates?

I recently got 2 $90 Vis GCs for rebates. I figure that I could do the BB SB deal for $50 on each of them but what about the remaining 2 x $40? I'm not sure whether it's worth the hassle at the register to pay $10 cash OOP first and then running the GC thru. I had one cashier question whether you could purchase a GC with a Visa GC after the Safeway deal, but she ended up running it thru when I pointed out that I had done it just a couple of days earlier. Splitting the payment may draw too much attention (I like to fly under the radar as much as possible).

A couple of months ago (right around the time they stopped allowing GC to GC purchases) Best Buy put a cap on what they'll allow on variable load cards regardless of what it actually says on the card itself. In fact, I'm surprised that you were able to get $300 as the last few times I've bought them the cap was $200. Combating fraud is their excuse for this too.

sounds like a frustrating day, but I'm glad your rewards are pending!

Yes, the cap is now $200 to $300 depending on the store. (And sometimes the store limits how much you can buy in one day but as far as I know that's individual store policy and not programmed into the computer.) From reports sometimes the associates know about the variable load caps, sometimes they don't but the computers do. I've seen little signs on the display rack running along the top like fine print outlining this policy at my store. The cards themselves are manufactured by a company that sells to many different retailers and some of them do allow gift card purchases up to $500 so the up to $500 print on the variable cards will not change.

They probably had the preprinted gift cards saying $25 - $500 before they instituted the change and will get new ones printed once they use them up. The company that supplies the gift cards makes different ones for different stores - in fact, if you look at the UPC on the Disney gift card you get at Best Buy it will usually be different than the one you buy at another retailer.

I thought I'd share some DP's with you all.

Retail Me Not:
A while back, I had brought up the Retail Me Not offers (similar to ebates and other cash back sites). They've had some really great offers. Well they had one for Staples, a spend $75 get $10 back. I was ordering GC's from Staples to use Amex's 10% offer, so I figured I would try to use the Staples offer on RMN. I received a notification that day that I had activated the order, then another that I used and my rebate was pending. I was skeptical since I solely bought gift cards (never had any luck with ebates getting a % back on GC purchases). However, today I just got an email that my $10 had posted, logged in and sure enough! In the terms, it says it exluded GC's, so I have no idea if this was a one off, or if this works until they catch it or whatever is going on. I just placed another order, we'll see if I get the cash back again!

On the BB/SB front...
I made two trips to BB last weekend. I wanted to test the multiple SB bonuses/day. I'm not close enough to a Best Buy to be stopping by daily/several times a week, so I thought I'd give it a shot. On Saturday (the 21st), I purchased (2) $50 GC's. Separate transactions with separate SB QR Codes. I figured I'd only get one bonus. However, on 7/23, two 500 point bonuses posted. They say Best Buy-7/20 & Best Buy 7/21. I did not go to BB on Friday, so it's got to be both of my Saturday purchases. I'm pleased but I don't know what's up with that. I'm going to try it again.
