DVC Members cruise Oct 5-12 2019 to Bermuda/Boston!!!

Has anyone seen the ABD add ons? I looked at them but too rich for my blood :sad2: The cost for the add on is way more than we're paying for the cruise! I'll keep it in mind though if my winning lottery numbers ever come up over the next 12-15 months :rotfl2:
I'm not sure if I would even splurge with a lottery win!! The price of 4 adults would get us an an amazing room at WDW for a week with tickets and most likely money left over.

Maybe this is a silly question, and I apologize ahead of time. On previous cruises we have participated in the FE exchanges and have so much fun. Since this is a member cruise and the way I understand you receive many gifts from DCL do people still do a FE exchanges? Is there a pirate night?

I don't know about Pirate night (I would assume so but maybe we have to wait til closer to sailing to have confirmation) but I know the FB group is probably going to set up FE's. So yes people still participate in them. We stopped participating in FE's after our 3rd cruise (a lot of fun but also a lot of work and extra $$ for me) so I won't be doing one.

I was wondering about the FE for this one too. It's just my second cruise so I don't have FE burnout yet but it was a lot of work and extra $$ but I received a lot of fun gifts. My first cruise FE group had @ 75 participants. We ended up shipping our FE gifts to BLT because we were flying. I'll see how the rest of my family feels before making a final decision but it was a lot of $$ and time. On the plus side, that cruise was 4 days and this is 7 with 3 at sea so I have more time to wander the ship and Magic is a lot smaller than the Dream. Also, I can drive so no worries about baggage weight.
I'm already obsessing about excursions, NYC, flights etc for this cruise and it's 460+ days away, plus we have other trips before this one.

I gotta chill :rolleyes2:p
You're not alone. No flights but I'm checking options to get from Philly to the port. Right now, driving is winning but I loathe driving into NYC. The best day ever was when someone mentioned going to Weehawken and taking the ferry over to me and I haven't had to drive in the city since. Unfortunately, I haven't found any "drive to NJ and ferry to port" options for the length of a cruise.

I just joined the FB group. We didn't have that last time I cruised either.

Luggage is also another consideration for us since we are flying from the West Coast (and have already been told to bring an extra suitcase for all the goodies we will receive on a member cruise) so that kind of sealed the deal for us in regards to not participating in FE's (at least when we have to fly!)

Driving to a port is a lovely option! We did that for Alaska last year (or basically any west coast cruise because it may mean just a 40 minute drive to the airport too). Flying to NYC will be an adventure for us, still not sure which airport would be best but we are lucky that Vancouver is such a huge hub we will have several flight options (and mostly non-stop as well, though they may be red-eyes).

Not all of us are on Facebook, so if anything worth sharing gets posted there, would someone also please post here ? Thanks!

Absolutely!!!
And for those not on FB/in the group, FE's can definitely be started here, too. The only other thing(s) that are usually discussed over 'there' are the groups for tastings/mixology etc so we can definitely update over here and if anyone wants to join those when the time comes, we can get you added to the list(s). pixiedust:

Thanks, We have done a few FEs no burn out yet. We live in NJ so no worry about packing this time.

FEs have grown since 2011. They have a lot of options with most limited to 10 rooms/households - Adult only, Family, mini family (5 or 6 rooms/households only). My mom and I are Christmas junkies so we joined the ornament exchange. They also have a recipe exchange. They tell you to separate based on households for some groups as you won't always get individual gifts but we have 3 households for our 4 person room.

Booked the Oct 5th New York, Boston to Bermuda 7 night cruise. Started calling about two minutes before 10 am and on third try just about 10 am on the nose I got through. It is just two of us, using all points. So after banking, borrowing and discussing the process took almost an hour.

Myself and my DW Janet live outside Philadelphia (home of the 2018 Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles). This will be our 5th Disney cruise, two on Wonder and two on the Dream. 1st member cruise.

Our kids are all grown and we didn't tell them yet we are going on this member cruise. We don't have enough points and between our three girls, husband and boyfriends, I don't have enough money either.

Anyone else going from Philly area, or anyone else just going without kids?

DW and I are looking forward to this 7 night cruise, looking forward to meeting many of you!

Gary
Not from the Philly area but going without kids. DH wanted to celebrate our 40th by going to Bermuda like we did for our 30th. Was so excited when I saw this cruise because I had wanted to do a member’s cruise and he got Bermuda.

Haha, why do I feel like the only one who's bringing kids on this cruise?! :rotfl2: Dang it! We are sailing kid-free two months before this cruise, perhaps I should switch and bring them on the August cruise and leave them behind in October!! :rotfl:

My parents are sailing with their kids but we’re both in our 40s and the child is the member.::MickeyMo::MickeyMo::MickeyMo My first cruise was at 18 so I envy children who get to sail when they’re young. With the child options, I’m sure you’ll have plenty of adult-only time plus it will get you extra gifts.:)

There always seem to be fewer kids on the off season MCs, but from what I’ve read the kids love it - pools if used are less crowded, kid & teen clubs much less crowded, character lines can be shorter (though plenty of adults in the character lines :donald:). The kids always seem to be having a fun time.

Oh yes my kids will have a blast no matter what! We're getting closer to the point where we won't be pulling them out for vacations much longer. By the time of this cruise, my eldest will be in grade 6 (high school here starts grade 8) so this could be the last trip (might squeak one out when she's in grade 7 and her sister in grade 5, but it all depends on how they are doing with their work at that time). My husband can't take vacation for the last 6 weeks of the year (basically the week before US Tgiving til after the 1st of the new year) so we do enjoy being able to take some trips that aren't at the height of the season (ie. summer and Spring break) but that will have to end soon :rotfl2:

My first Member Cruise as well but 13th overall. DD loves the Aqua Dunk on the Magic. Sailed out of NYC once before on a Canadian Coastal cruise and it’s SO amazing! Never been to Boston so looking for recommendations. Would love to see a Red Sox game, but...
I am from Boston, so I will be happy to answer any questions once the excursions come out. The city is full of history, and we love our sports teams. Maybe you'll be lucky and there will be an early game that you can catch when we are in port, Fenway Park is not to far from the port
