Pop Century Room Renovations

Guys, search this thread. Somewhere around page 70(?) someone posted a short YouTube video on how to override the AC sensor. Since I haven’t gone yet, I can’t confirm if the unit in the Pop rooms matches (but it sure sounded like it in the post).

Can anyone identify the exact make and model of this thermostat? I noticed it has the dreaded motion sensor, and having my room in September the temperature I want it isn't something I take lightly. lol

Edit: Looks like I found a match (I don't even know if the thermostats are new in the remodel, so people may already know the model, but this helps me so I am posting it): https://www.inncom.com/catalog/energy-management/item/evora-light-switch-2?category_id=1

Edit 2: And here is what I was ultimately after:

Here we go. Page 78 of this thread

Since the renovation we have had no issues with the thermostats. We have stayed in new rooms 4-5 times and able to set it down to around 65 degrees and it never changed. Was very nice to not have issues while we slept.
Same. We set ours at 67 and it was comfortable for us for the entire trip. It didn't change nor turn off even when we left the room for 15+ hours many days or when we were sleeping. No need to 'override'.

Great to know! The mods have the ceiling fans (don’t know about deluxe as I haven’t stayed there) to counter any a/c issues.

At home I sleep with ceiling fan, floor fan, A/C ............ I used to take a fan with me to POP (and other hotels) because the A/C didn't go low enough and then didn't stay low. I haven't needed a fan at POP since the renovation since we can push it lower and it stays there.

Thanks everyone! I don’t remember which resorts I’ve had to override in the past (but there were some) and with a July trip, I wanted to be prepared! I appreciate the feedback :)

I always bring a small fan with me for the air flow but also the noise. In the past, I have always bought a balloon and put it close to the air flow in hopes it would keep movement detected by the sensor and keep our air on. We are looking forward to saying at POP in January.

I still bring my small fan (a small, round USB powered fan) to help circulate the air better, but I haven’t had issues with temperature in the refurbished rooms. They may have had to permanently override the thermostat because the beverage center partially blocks the motion detector part of the thermostat.

I just wanted to thank everyone who has been keeping this thread updated. I'm heading to Pop (for the first time) in late August, and this has been so helpful for understanding what to expect, what requests to make, etc. This is the thread that made me really excited about staying at Pop!

You’re so welcome @Andrea1975 and @PinkMagnolia. I will say @HopperFan fan and I have become good friends through keeping up this thread so we’ve enjoyed it too! :)

Just a reminder to all who have been to Pop since the renovations began or, those who are planning to go, if you could please update your room info on this thread https://www.disboards.com/threads/p...shments-tub-or-shower-queens-or-king.3678036/ we would greatly appreciate it as would others!!

Stayed at Pop this weekend in building 4, top floor. Loved it! Fit the pack n play between the fridge and dresser areas. Fit perfectly! My other son LOVED the murphy bed and enjoyed putting it back up every morning. Our room was clean when we got there and the reno looked great! Mattresses were comfortable. My parents were in a connecting room next to ours and loved it, too. Really my only issue with the room was they didn't tell us about skipping housekeeping when we got there (we got the text for check in but had to stop at the lobby because my parents forgot their magic bands, so they had a chance to tell us). Then we got back on our second day and housekeeping hadn't come yet (by 4/4:30pm). So I told them not to bother but asked at the lobby and they said you have to opt out on the first day so we missed our chance. I think he would have given us the gift card if we pressed, but it wasn't worth it to me. Then on day 3 when they did clean, I didn't think they did a very good job, especially with the bathroom.

It was our first time staying in Pop and we will definitely come back, though I could see staying at a moderate for better pools. I didn't love the Hippy Dippy pool. It was loud and crowded. I know there were other options but we didn't feel like walking to the other pools. I'm coming back alone with my kids in a few weeks and think I'll request an 80s room and try out that pool. My son loved the arcade. Breakfast early in the morning (7-7:30 ish) was VERY crowded. We didn't like the dinner options but the walk over to Art of Animation was easy and their cafeteria was nice. It was fun to explore over there.

Finally, the buses were a mixed bag. We came home after fireworks at Epcot on Day 1 and had to wait for a second bus because the first was packed. On day 2 we caught the bus to MK as it was leaving around 7:10-7:15 for 8am opening. IDK if that was the first bus or not. My parents took my son back to MK later in the day and the bus was departing when they saw it. My dad sprinted to catch it and everyone cheered when the driver let them on, lol. On Day 3 we went to AK and had to use Lyft because the buses weren't leaving until 7am for 8am EMH. We wanted to leave earlier to rope drop Pandora. Coming home from AK by bus around 3pm was pretty easy. We tried to go to Disney Springs around 5:30pm and the bus was another 20 mins so we used Lyft. We tried to use the bus coming home from MK late that day (like around 10:30pm) and the line was so long that we'd never make the bus, so we walked to the contemporary and used lyft. TBH we had to loop all the way back around the buses back to the main gate and then do the walk to the contemporary and then wait for a Lyft, so it might not have been faster all said and done. Finally on day 4 we wanted to rope drop Hollywood Studios and they said the first bus wouldn't come until 8 or 8:15 for 9am opening. So we took a lyft at 7:45. My parents came later and said at 8:30/845 the HS line was so long that they also took a Lyft. Coming home, however, from HS was very easy. Anyway, I'm sharing the info in case it's helpful. TLDR we had to use Lyft for a few of the early morning rope drops we did and when we were tired and didn't want to wait for a second bus to come. I wish the buses were a bit better but it was ok. OH also they were usually the furthest away at all the parks.

EDIT: oops I meant to post this in the main Pop thread, but oh well.

Here now. Reasons I don’t like the refurbished rooms:
No carpet took away insulation
No tub means no shelf for ladies for shaving legs
Only 1 bed down makes the room seem smaller
Pocket doors take up room in bedroom and bathroom
No fan in bathroom
Everything white is already showing stains
Closet is extremely small for hanging stuff

Did you just arrive yesterday? There are far more rooms with tubs than Shower only rooms. You may ask to be moved and see if they can help you. If not, tuning a plastic garbage pail upside down in the shower will give you a place for your foot when shaving.

I cannot say we found that with only one bed down the room seemed smaller as you have far more floor space than previously when there were 2 double beds that could not be moved.

There is a fan in the bathroom that is motion sensored. If yours is not working call guest services and they will repair it.

Are you aware that there is an additional 9” if closet space when you extend the telescoping portion of the bar outside the closet? It pulls out in front of the ironing board. It’s still not as big as before but does increase the hanging space some.

Sorry to hear you are not enjoying your visit at Pop. Hopefully you find a different resort next time that better meets your needs.

Wow! I did not know you have to ask for a room with a tub!!!!

Don’t see the big deal about the table, there was always a table in the room. Just my opinion, of course.

Our fan is motion sensitive when you are right outside the bathroom door, but not while you are in there. Kinda rinky-dink to have to put a trash can in the shower for a ledge.

I still think it sounds like a tin can without the carpet.

Thanks for all the info.

I stood on the toilet and waved my hand back in forth to get the fan to turn on. Kind of annoying, but it worked.

I agree about not having a ledge to shave your legs. I didn't really have to deal with it because we were only there for 5 days and my leg hair doesn't grow that fast, but it would've been nice if they put a small ledge/seat in the shower only rooms.
